Off topic, but related to your video. My Aviator had a leak and rattle in headliner and rattles more now after fixing it. But I'm glad I found this video in case I decide to figure it out myself! Thank you!
First video of a roof rack delete I’ve seen, thinking of doing the same thing. Great vid 🤟🏼
Thanks for posting this - big help! I just picked up a 21 Explorer from the insurance auction with blown roof bags. This gave me a big head start pulling the headliner.
Heck yeah brotha! Glad it could help.
Thanks for the man! I have a 2022 Timberline and have no need for the rails. I want that slick top look. This was incredibly helpful. Ordered the listed parts and gonna tackle this next week. 💪🏽
Great video! It got me into installing roof rails in my 2020 base Explorer. After the first vacation my wife thought would be a good idea having extra space, so I bought it on eBay used ones and it worked great. The only issue was that I didn't lower the headliner at all but instead I inserted my arm by the sides, it left me with some bruises on my hands and arms. Not too bad tough. I will sell my roof rail delete brackets on ebay once I clean it. Thanks for showing how to do it!
Thanks a ton!!!! I finally got to mine today and watched your video for pointers.
Hell yeah! Glad I could be of service!
You are amazing for this video. Not finding a video has stalled my work on my timberline. That’s the problem when you get a new new model there’s no videos on them.
Glad it could help. Feel free to share this and other videos I have. That’s why I make them a try to get information out there so people can do this stuff themselves without spending all the money at a shop or dealership.
Great video. I always disconnect the battery when working around those airbags. They go off and hit you, they will break bones or worse.
Looking for two answers, thank you - 1. how long did this take you to complete AND 2. Best guess as to how long this roof rail delete job would take a mechanic / auto body shop start to finish? Thank you
Good God, why wouldn't Ford just design it to be removed without dismantling the inside.
Because that would make too much sense.
Not sure but I see they’ve taken inspiration from Subaru
@@KnightsGarage Seems to be the correct answer too often.
Looks amazing 🙌🏼
Thank you sir!
Looks awesome without the rails!
Thank you so much! It is really helpful.
Thanks! Glad the video could help you out.
Hey 👋🏻, why did you delete your roof rails? And do you think you’ll ever install and do a video for (running boards) ?
Just didn’t like the looks of them and I’d never use them. I wouldn’t personally want to ever put runningboards on my Explorer so I probably wouldn’t do a video on it.
I’ve something hope you can help me with, since you’ve removed the headliner yourself, have you noticed how air reaches the headliner vents? If you did, please explain
Comes from the back and goes up the seat pillars. I’m pretty sure you can watch the video again. I thought I did a pretty good job of filming the inside after I remove the headliner so people can see what they need to see.
How do you remove passenger side grab handle on the roof?
Ok so that looks great but how do I carry a roof box now. LOL!!! 😂 I’m kidding I think it looks great and if didn’t car camp I’d do this to my ST.
I’m looking to purchase the side roof rails for a 2022 Explorer ST. Please let me know if you have a set you’re getting rid of.
I already sold mine.
You unplugged the camera. Did it need to be recalibrated?
Nope. All the safety systems work perfectly.
Do you need to be careful with it though because if you put in smudges on it or the glass you can mess it up
Hey Knight. I got a question. Your rear windows when they are open do they move easy like loose as heck ?
Idk. Don’t know if I’ve ever opened them.
@@KnightsGarage just saying it could be a surprise for a $64.000 vehicle
Do the retainers on the link you put in the description come in white only? Or is it just white on the website?
The ones I linked are black plastic. It’s all black plastic and the rails themselves are black coated metal.
@@KnightsGarage thank you! I really do appreciate the video! Have a great day my man
@@Kaislette823 no problem. Thank you!
Спасибо чувак ✊
Have you had any issues with leaking? It looks amazing and I want to do the same but the open holes are concerning.
None. Not even directly onto the top. These are factory pieces and I clean the surfaces very well so I wasn’t even concerned about them leaking to be honest.
@@KnightsGarage i’ve got the part numbers for the roof rails themselves. Are there any additional parts that are needed for this? I’d hate for I shop to get my car pulled apart and the headliner hanging down and then at the last second think oh we’re missing a part.
@@ryanjanouski-xu5xj you need the roof rails themselves and the longer retainers that I talk about and show on the video. They install on the front taking the place of the shorter ones that are used with the roof rails and also covering the holes that the rails them selves bolt into.
Any new creaks or rattles from dropping the liner?
@@JohnDoe-nz6bk none at all for me.
Hi. The part numbers are exactly whats is in the video ? The long retainers part numbers? Because on Ford site it says that the part numbers for retainers are for 21 Ford
Those are the part numbers I used.
@@KnightsGarage thank you
What kind of tint did you use on head of windshield. I'm wanting to do that, like it?
I have suntek 85% ceramic on the entire windshield and same tint but 20% on the top “eye brow” of windshield.
85% is considered clear. I wanted the heat rejection of ceramic tint, but I did not want it to you be shaded.
@@KnightsGarage 10-4, I'll look into that.
Any improvement to wind noise?
Didn’t really notice any difference in anything other than looks honestly.
Where did you order the parts from???
I bought them from a guy on the forums. But you can buy them at levittown Ford web site.
My '22 ST came with the roof rail delete already from the factory... I hate those things... useless... I've never seen a single person EVER use a roof rack, and the price ford wants for the cross braces to use their roof rails, is insane.... I do have the full panoramic sun/mood roof, so maybe thats why it was deleted from the factory... the entire rear is a giant glass and the front half opens up.
Looks better without them on it
100%.
@@KnightsGarage paint the grill white it look good all white
@@autosalvage nahhh. I really like the contrast, especially with the gloss, black wheels and the mirrors and a pillars being gloss black as well.
@@KnightsGarage good looking SUV.
@@autosalvage pretty darn fast for an SUV also. 400hp
What are you doing with your old rails?
Laying in the floor in my basement.
@@KnightsGarage any interest in selling them?
@@colemanmerrill sure. Message me on my knightsgarage F Book page.
What did you pay in total?
I can’t remember, but it was much less than buying all the parts from the dealer directly. I’m wanting to say everything from the dealership directly was like 800 bucks. or something ridiculous like that I got these deletes from a member on the form for less than half of that.
@KnightsGarage ya man! I was about to get the stuff and proced at ford was 610 just for rails
@@mrself6815 yeah, it was like 500 bucks for a while and then they just got stupid expensive somewhere around mid 2022. I’m glad I found this guy that had bought a set early and then sold his explorer before installing them.
Where can I order these parts
Your local Ford dealership unless they’ve put them back on back order
There saying they don’t know what I’m talking about
Could you send me the link of where you got yours w
@@user-bj4uj8ov4o This should do it..

Of course Ford would make you go through all that trouble to do this...
