The Archaeopteryx is a high-end rigid wing hang-glider in sailplane configuration. It is an extremely thermally sensitive aircraft, with which long range flights can be carried out - even with weak up-currents. It has the turning radius of a paraglider and the sink-rate of a high performance sailplane. The Archaeopteryx aircraft is very versatile, simple to rig and to fly and has very safe flight characteristics.

Ein absolut thermikstarkes Fluggerät, mit welchem sich auch bei schwachen Aufwinden ausgedehnte Flüge unternehmen lassen. Kreisradien wie ein Gleitschirm, Sinkleistung wie ein Hochleistungssegelflugzeug. Das Fluggerät Archaeopteryx ist besonders vielseitig, es ist einfach zu montieren und zu fliegen und weist eine allgemein sehr sichere Flugcharakteristik auf.

Totally incredible. After watching your other video I watched this one and I thought, at least it’s modular so you can easily replace parts.
Then you go into the power mode. You can take off on wheels and you can land on wheels. Sweet. Then the added winch tow, aerotow, and bungee launch on a ridge!
Now, add in an incredible 49 foot turning radius, and yikes what a machine! But yet there’s more, a ballistic parachute system! Then the near sailplane performance and it’s pretty hard to beat.

I am so envious. I wish they'd had things like this when I was still young. In my day hang gliding was something that had a 50/50 chance of working. But, that was only if everything was perfect!

The most advanced footlauchable sailplane ever conceived! Spectacular design and performance. Engineered with versatility to perfection. This kind of advanced aircraft is not cheap. I bet the trailer adds another $10k to the price tag. But you’d need it for this delicate and airplane. If this could be mass produced, the cost would come way down. But it is such a select group of folks who would be interested… it’s like the Maserati of hang gliders!! Bravo to all involved in its development. I hope it comes with some Swiss chocolates … 😉👍

excellent very ingenious glider I really congratulate all those people worldwide who provide an invention for humanity, thanks to this invention I could develop something similar, it is very difficult to do it here in our country venezuela but it is not impossible, if I achieve that goal I will give all the data and specifications by this means so that people have access to the information.

There's a similar aircraft avaible as plans (and made out of spruce and doped fabric, which is easy-ish to work with) called the ULF-1.
making a man sized glider in your garage isn't impossible, but making one that flies well is very hard. The internet has lots and lots of information (in every conceivable language to boot) about aerodynamics, so you'd want to read up on it.
This is a really nice set up. I have a sailplane license and while it's a lot of fun flying high performance sailplanes, I like the hang glider- like characteristics of this plane. Landing with your feet...the open version of this plane strikes me as the most interesting option. It's all a trade-off I suppose. Flying this plane like a regular glass sailplane would probably just make me wish I was in a higher performance sailplane. But as a hang glider, I don't think it can be beat!
saw this when it was being developed many years ago, wanted one then. Definitely be the very first toy I buy if lotto numbers ever work for me.

Absolute genius of a design. More affordable gliding and without a lot of the hassle.
its insanely expensive unfortunately. i dont understand why they cost so much. 10x more expensive than a decent hangglider and several times more expensive than a used full size sailplane. very neat craft though just doesnt seem sensible. on top of that because it doesnt breakdown as compactly as a hangglider its really just as much hassle and most other sailplanes.

what a beautiful little plane, if i had a farm with a long enough runway and $70k to burn it would be so fun to get the light open cockpit one but with the electric drive and just zip around the area with it.

@@thedarkwolf3047 That's for the electric version and there are 2 non-powered versions (Archeopteryx standard (which is not enclosed)- €62,000 and Archeopteryx Race (the one that is in most of the videos)- €68,000). Definitely a great aircraft!

THIS is a self-launching glider/sailplane. do you KNOW how far a sailplane CAN fly. longer than you can wait to pee. out

Creo que es increible las prestaciones en vuelo que ofrece (30 Km/h la perdida y sin flaps), la versatilidad por su tamaño, el motor electrico que es lo mas seguro que existe actualmente, pero creo tambien que es mucho dinero, hay muchos motoveleros muchisimo mas baratos. No obstante, por lo dicho antes, con un precio mas asequible seria el primero en hacerme con uno.
