This is actually regarded as the best episode throughout "Danny Phantom" and there's a reason why: You got time travel, dark themes thrown in, a well written villain, good character development between Danny and Jazz and you have so much at stake. What's not to love. Trivia: Butch Hartman conceive the idea for this episode when he wanted to write an episode for the series involving time travel and to create Dark Danny, he studied a topic on what teenagers are afraid of, which is their future. Plus he thought the idea of Danny becoming the most l evil ghost would be terrifying after he looked back on the episode "Control Freaks". When this episode came out, there were trailers that hid who the villain was, which was a smart move because the revelation that Danny turns evil in the future was mind blowing. Dark Danny is regarded as one of the top 10 most evil animated villains.
If you ask me, as much as I like this special, it is extremely overrated. I prefer more lighthearted storytelling. And, if you ask me, "Phantom Planet" is a much better episode, regardless if Butch Hartman did write it.
Dark Danny's not only the most dangerous and sadistic villian Danny has ever face, but it shows what happen if Danny ghost side didn't have a good side.
Most ghost in the Ghost Zone arent good or bad, they just chaotic. The fact Danny's ghost side go evil is becuase not only he lose his human side. So when the ghost was pulled out, A ghost behaviour reflects their desire or current emotions of the time and they will stay true to that. So when his ghost side was ripped out, all the ghost instinct was anger and hatred and simply wants to vent it out unlike his human side that keeps his destructive nature in check by being depressed and sad.

Dark Danny only existed because those old idiots made Clockwerk get involved and give Danny the answers. if they didn’t, Dark Danny wouldn’t have happened, but Clockwerk is smarter than them so he played it out his own way. this episode was one of my all time favorites
There was a comic for the show released in July last year called “A Gltich in Time” where Dark Danny escaped the thermos, something I kinda wished we saw in the show.

This is PEAK Danny Phantom. I don’t know for sure how Dark Danny did it, but I think he just mimicked Danny, kinda like a skin walker. He doesn’t have a human form anymore.

Happy 20th Dannyversary, guys! I 100% blame the Nasty Burger for Danny's losses, btw. Not Danny nor Lancer, who were just unfortunate victims in a horrific domino chain of events. The employees KNOW how dangerous that sauce is, as it's stated within the FIRST 5 MINUTES of the episode. What happens if a customer decides to microwave their leftovers at home? How have they not been sued into bankruptcy? They HAVE to be violating more than the FDA Guidelines.
I would actually blame the Observants, since they were the ones who prompted Clockwork to send out Boxed Lunch at past Danny, which would’ve started the entire chain of events.
@@unforeseeable2.058That's fair, as the entire incident is paradoxical in nature, but it still doesn't excuse how messed up it is that NB can get away with harboring what's essentially considered a BOMB, apocalyptic future or not. If the sauce wasn't so explosive, it wouldn't have mattered if Clockwork got involved (and he wouldn't have needed to be anyway) because nobody would've died to it. Dark Danny's existence in general would be nullified. It isn't the Observants or Box Lunch's fault that Danny took advantage of the sauce to defeat her because he wouldn't have done so if it wasn't able to be weaponized in the first place. He'd have to deal with her the normal way, and no disastrous future repercussions would be set into place.
So basically when Danny was depressed about losing his friends and his family, he blamed his ghosts powers. His ghost half can’t exist without him and basically was only created through the accident of the ghost portal explosion. It most likely doesn’t have conscience, just follows Dannys will. When Danny rejected it, it needed to be whole because it was half a ghost. So it wanted vlads ghost half. It fused with his and it basically was in charge at the wheel. He was in control of vlads ghost half. He’s just Danny’s ghost half trying to get an new body. And because he’s a ghost that was created from the ghost portal instead of just dying, he doesn’t act the same as others. Can’t really be reasoned with. Dark Danny is either just as the ghost king or stronger than the ghost king. Remember that fright knight doesn’t just follow just anyone. He only follows the ghost king. It’s possible that future danny became stronger then him. Like he did 6 clones instead 4. Ghostly wail. The green mist phasing. And he actually opened a portal to the ghost zone with a wave of his hand. Danny probably only won because future danny was holding back and danny used ghostly wail.
I'd like to think that Dark Danny became feared by the other ghosts just like the Ghost King, if not more than the Ghost King. And if Dark Danny was able to injure ghosts to the point of crippling them like Johnny 13 was, then he most likely had to be powerful enough to destroy a ghost's entire existence permanently it he was able to and if he wanted to
@@fighterx9840 except fright knight literally won’t serve any ghost no matter how powerful they are. Unless they have the ghost kings ring and crown. And dark Danny used a lot of powers this episode. He beat Valerie with them without really trying. And then barely used them when fighting Danny. So there’s a pretty good chance that he was holding back. And if you’re scaring the other ghosts like to have them on the run all at once you have to be incredibly strong. And the last person and only person to really do that was the ghost king. So most likely dark Danny did reach the level of the ghost king without the ring and the crown.

And maybe at that time before Dark Danny grew older, he knew he wasn't strong enough to take the Ghost King head on since last time it took everything he had to barely defeat him by putting him in the sarcophagus, not to mention the Fright Knight possibly being there as well so maybe he waited until he was strong enough to defeat the Ghost King properly and without his human half holding him back anymore, I'd say it was a big and gruesome fight. The first is the ones that died and go to the ghost zone. 2nd are the ones that are born as ghosts like box lunch. And the 3rd are the ones that are created by magic like how Desiree made a ghosts inside of tucker by granting his wish. And the last one is the ones that are created inside humans through a ghost portal being first activated. And also i think because Dannys half ghost was created from the ghost portal which is link to the ghost zone he might have all aspects of the ghost zone. For example dark Danny made a ghost zone portal. Name one ghost whos done that? Then there is another power he gets later that only one type of ghosts have in a very specific area of the ghost zone.
I honestly forgot which area it was, but I can say for certain that Dark Danny is very powerful and very dangerous and I'd hate to see what more he was capable of if he was left to roam free. And not to mention he had to be weakened to be captured in the thermos. Although we don't get to see Dark Danny again, I think he will most likely just grow even stronger during his time in the thermos, and possibly bide his time until he's able to get out
I think Danny deserved the right to cheat for the following reasons (feel free to say the second reason is not a good reason): 1)Danny doesn't have time to study. He is busy fighting ghosts. 2) With Jazz getting the one of the highest scores in history, Jack and Maddie must have possibly expected Danny to do well. 3) The school system sucks.
Counterpoint: Danny could have asked for help. He had his sister. He had Tucker, who is very smart and probably would have done well on the test. And Lancer was willing to give Danny an extension, showing that this is possible in extreme situations. While it would have been hard to explain why he needed it to anyone other than Tucker, the point is, there were ways to get through the test other than cheating or failing. But he felt so desperate he went for the easy answer.
I really wished that they brought back Older Danny! Such a great villian. 😄The voice actor is amazing 😍 it was such a tease when he was moving around in the thermos at the end 😔

just so you guys know this episode was placed out of order. The episodes placed after it on paramount were actually supposed to be placed before it cuz in the next 2 episodes Danny doesnt know about Jazz knowing about him yet. It's only a 2 episode difference so it's not that big a deal but just thought you should know. Wikipedia has the correct episode order but Paramount sorts it by order of when they aired even if they aired out of order.

@themaestro2572 I'm very partial to the lesson that Danny learns in the episode: don't live your life sitting on the sidelines. Because, in spite of what some people suggest about the character, from what I've seen, that was his whole thing. He was pretty much forcing himself to be the hero and just to keep his closest friends and family safe.
While a fun concept, DD never felt properly built up to, so the payoff wasn't satisfying. Plus the future ghosts confuse me on whether they're spirits or magical beings simply labeled as ghosts.
I personally felt this finale is where danny phantom should have ended because after this it just becomes a typical Saturday morning cartoon. Also butch cared too much about making danny phantom kid friendly when there were so many plans for darker episodes and settings. Season 3 is still watchable but the quality of storytelling really starts to dip.

It isn't the Observants or Box Lunch's fault that Danny took advantage of the sauce to defeat her because he wouldn't have done so if it wasn't able to be weaponized in the first place. He'd have to deal with her the normal way, and no disastrous future repercussions would be set into place.

So basically when Danny was depressed about losing his friends and his family, he blamed his ghosts powers. His ghost half can’t exist without him and basically was only created through the accident of the ghost portal explosion. It most likely doesn’t have conscience, just follows Dannys will. When Danny rejected it, it needed to be whole because it was half a ghost. So it wanted vlads ghost half. It fused with his and it basically was in charge at the wheel. He was in control of vlads ghost half. He’s just Danny’s ghost half trying to get an new body. And because he’s a ghost that was created from the ghost portal instead of just dying, he doesn’t act the same as others. Can’t really be reasoned with. Dark Danny is either just as the ghost king or stronger than the ghost king. Remember that fright knight doesn’t just follow just anyone. He only follows the ghost king. It’s possible that future danny became stronger then him. Like he did 6 clones instead 4. Ghostly wail. The green mist phasing. And he actually opened a portal to the ghost zone with a wave of his hand. Danny probably only won because future danny was holding back and danny used ghostly wail.
I'd like to think that Dark Danny became feared by the other ghosts just like the Ghost King, if not more than the Ghost King. And if Dark Danny was able to injure ghosts to the point of crippling them like Johnny 13 was, then he most likely had to be powerful enough to destroy a ghost's entire existence permanently it he was able to and if he wanted to
@@fighterx9840 except fright knight literally won’t serve any ghost no matter how powerful they are. Unless they have the ghost kings ring and crown. And dark Danny used a lot of powers this episode. He beat Valerie with them without really trying. And then barely used them when fighting Danny. So there’s a pretty good chance that he was holding back. And if you’re scaring the other ghosts like to have them on the run all at once you have to be incredibly strong. And the last person and only person to really do that was the ghost king. So most likely dark Danny did reach the level of the ghost king without the ring and the crown.

And maybe at that time before Dark Danny grew older, he knew he wasn't strong enough to take the Ghost King head on since last time it took everything he had to barely defeat him by putting him in the sarcophagus, not to mention the Fright Knight possibly being there as well so maybe he waited until he was strong enough to defeat the Ghost King properly and without his human half holding him back anymore, I'd say it was a big and gruesome fight. But speaking of ghosts, it kinda begs the question, what happened to the other ghosts such as Spectra, Desiree, Bertrund, and Walker in this future?
@@fighterx9840 well honestly we’ve seen Danny actually obliterate other ghosts with ghost beams. So maybe he actually just decided to kill them. Also i feel like there are 4 types of ghosts. The first is the ones that died and go to the ghost zone. 2nd are the ones that are born as ghosts like box lunch. And the 3rd are the ones that are created by magic like how Desiree made a ghosts inside of tucker by granting his wish. And the last one is the ones that are created inside humans through a ghost portal being first activated. And also i think because Dannys half ghost was created from the ghost portal which is link to the ghost zone he might have all aspects of the ghost zone. For example dark Danny made a ghost zone portal. Name one ghost whos done that? Then there is another power he gets later that only one type of ghosts have in a very specific area of the ghost zone.
I honestly forgot which area it was, but I can say for certain that Dark Danny is very powerful and very dangerous and I'd hate to see what more he was capable of if he was left to roam free. And not to mention he had to be weakened to be captured in the thermos. Although we don't get to see Dark Danny again, I think he will most likely just grow even stronger during his time in the thermos, and possibly bide his time until he's able to get out

I think Danny deserved the right to cheat for the following reasons (feel free to say the second reason is not a good reason):
1)Danny doesn't have time to study. He is busy fighting ghosts.
2) With Jazz getting the one of the highest scores in history, Jack and Maddie must have possibly expected Danny to do well.
3) The school system sucks.
Maybe that’s why Dark Danny wants to make others suffer, the world took away his entire life from him so he’s getting even 👀

Counterpoint: Danny could have asked for help. He had his sister. He had Tucker, who is very smart and probably would have done well on the test. And Lancer was willing to give Danny an extension, showing that this is possible in extreme situations. While it would have been hard to explain why he needed it to anyone other than Tucker, the point is, there were ways to get through the test other than cheating or failing. But he felt so desperate he went for the easy answer.

just so you guys know this episode was placed out of order. The episodes placed after it on paramount were actually supposed to be placed before it cuz in the next 2 episodes Danny doesnt know about Jazz knowing about him yet. It's only a 2 episode difference so it's not that big a deal but just thought you should know. Wikipedia has the correct episode order but Paramount sorts it by order of when they aired even if they aired out of order.

20:10 even after all these years, seeing all the future ghosts makes me wonder what the hell did Dark Danny do to them. Here’s my assumption:
Box Ghost: DD beaten so badly that the box ghost decided to get jack up. It was at this point we seen how intimidated the box ghost became
Ember: DD destroyed her vocal cords. Amber was placed the state of depression and eventually gained weight.
Johnny 13: DD beated him so badly that broke his legs and now is a paraplegic ghost
All the other ghosts I’m not sure. There either changed or there actually dead

@themaestro2572 I'm very partial to the lesson that Danny learns in the episode: don't live your life sitting on the sidelines. Because, in spite of what some people suggest about the character, from what I've seen, that was his whole thing. He was pretty much forcing himself to be the hero and just to keep his closest friends and family safe.
While a fun concept, DD never felt properly built up to, so the payoff wasn't satisfying. Plus the future ghosts confuse me on whether they're spirits or magical beings simply labeled as ghosts.

I personally felt this finale is where danny phantom should have ended because after this it just becomes a typical Saturday morning cartoon. Also butch cared too much about making danny phantom kid friendly when there were so many plans for darker episodes and settings. Season 3 is still watchable but the quality of storytelling really starts to dip.

Fun fact: this episode is the reason why danny phantom ended the story is that butch hartman asked nickelodeon for 2 million dollars for marketing the series and nickelodeon agreed but only on the terms that the episode and its marketing campaigns would make 5 million after the ultimate enemy aired nickelodeon only got 50k and danny phantom was deemed a marketing failure and was cancelled in season 2 the only reason it was renewed for season 3 is because of a 2 year contract contract that butch Hartman agreed to when danny phantom first started
