Have you ever been to these places? It doesn't really seem like you have.
They NEED to know about Maryland's weird weather. December-warm January-Cold Febuary- warm and Cold March- either snowing or warm late April- Finally warm May- lots of rain and hot June-september - HOT October- November- Nice temp.
the weather here makes no sense
Yeah, it can be mild around Ft. Meade and be snowing like crazy up by Winchester! Snowing up in Aberdeen/Northeast and dry as a bone in Laurel. I mean, really, it's completely different weather.
The weather is the same as DC’s or Northern Virginia’s. A bit close to NYC’s not totally. Not sure what you’re talking about. Have you ever lived in the South? THAT, right there is weird weather.
Lived in Ga, S. Carolina and Texas. Now, Maryland. Ft. Meade's weather is not like DC's because urban areas tend to be warmer; asphalt, more traffic, etc. We have a saying in Texas: "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes...it'll change. @@RASHTG
I remember in February last year it was like 70 degrees
A couple branches of my ancestors came to Maryland on the Ark and the Dove in 1634 and I have always lived in Maryland. (11th generation Marylander!) Yes, our weather is very changeable. We are also very different from area to area, county to county. I was raised in a suburban area near DC and for the last 35 years have lived in a rural area. I am a Redskin fan, I think our state flag is great, I consider myself living in the South (in fact when I visit New England my "southern accent" is poked fun at), and I say the "s" in Johns Hopkins. I like Old Bay, but did not grow up eating crabs. We used it with shrimp. Unless you're descended from Maryland Native Americans, you can't get much more Maryland than me!
I'm exploring different investment opportunities and would appreciate others' insights on this matter..
I was pleasantly surprised to find that you're familiar with her as well. I've had the privilege of working closely with Jenny Pamogas Canaya over the past few months, and she has not only helped me earn substantial profits but has also been an exceptional mentor and trader. Her ability to navigate various market situations is truly remarkable, and I couldn't be more satisfied with our collaboration.,.
It's Johnssssssssssssssss Hopkins!
In Bal-more Merlyn
We do love our flag and blue crabs! And Francis Scott Key is buried in MD too! Love the video!
And Edgar Alan Poe
I live in Texas now, but Maryland is where I'm from and where I lived half of my life. This brings me nostalgia.
mostly bad memories if you are black.
@@championshipswins6812 how? Dummy mostly good memories
Yuppppppp so true! I love my home Maryland!!!!!!Crab is LIFE!!!
I was born and raised in Calvert County and though I no longer live there my heart will always be there.
I was born and raised in Maryland
As well
Broening Manor, born and raised.
Johns Hopkins... as in The Johns Hopkins University... named for Johns Hopkins.
Nothing like Maryland,,, i really love this state... ❤️❤️
Thank you Malcolm Lawson for your quick interesting points on MD. Very useful.
thank you malcolm !! almost two years living here 😁😁😁😁😁😁
What part of MD are you in?
Great video. Frederick Douglas and Harriet Tubman are from the Eastern Shore of Maryland (underground rail road in MD also). There is also some great history about the Patuxent River and it’s relationship with the White House being burned and Native American history but I can’t elaborate right now I’ve got some crab meat I need to be stuffing into some Salmon 😎. Salisbury’s own signing out.
Loved this post....pls share the recipe👍
Da Bury ! What up!!
0:03 XD so tru we do love our flag and some crabs (and hate our bay bridge traffic)
Thank you Malcolm for this quick and great points about Maryland! A nice to know!👊🤗
We have a bi-polar weather pattern. It good a sunny 77 at noon and by 3 its poring rain
I was looking up the first settlement in Maryland, and I found this video. Great information thanks
I just have 1 week in MD.ur video helps me thaks.
Maryland born and raised!!! I really enjoy your videos!
Excellent information. thank you.
One time on Christmas it was raining and 80 degrees outside then, the next week later there was a blizzard! :O
Nicely done
Silver Queen corn and giant tomato sandwiches! 🍅
Watermelons and strawberries and cherry pies from roadside stands in summer! 🍉🍓🍒
Sailing up under the Bridge in the Bay and crabbing from the piers! Hearing "Yes, Ma'am" and "Yes, Sir" in stores and restaurants! Softshell crab sandwiches! Cotton candy and well just everything in Ocean City! 🎡🌊
Yep, missing Maryland from a big city up North 🤔😁⛵⛵
Very important to include NIH in Bethesda, Maryland!
Or the Naval Hospital right accross the street from it!
This is the most accurate list I’ve ever seen.
Great video! Makes me glad I live here.
A few comments:
1) Washington Football Team colors are Burgundy and Gold.
2) Andrews AFB is what it was; Joint Base Andrews is what it is.
3) If you live in Baltimore, it's Bal'mer, hon.
4) Maryland also has everything from the ocean to the mountains and the Chesapeake Bay (where we get our crabs).
5) Don't forget the Orioles!!! (Major omission!) I'd mention the Nationals too, just for balance.
6) Seems "10 Things" is not enough! 😅
I lived in MD 1965 1983.bel air. Loved every thing about the state.
Maryland lender here and lifetime resident. It's my home and I agree with these top 10's. I've briefly lived in the Midwest and abroad and ...I still love this state. Don't forget to mention Maryland's nickname, "Little America".
Good stuff
Great video Malcolm. Missed one thing, the Washington Football Team’s colors are Burgundy and Gold 😁
I love Maryland, i grew up there also
These are so true.
Harper's Ferry is West Virginia
Number 11 the high taxes
Yeah but a Quality Life... 😌
Its only 6%
@@JoeTheToeMan ~ It's not just about the sales tax. Property taxes are high in this state. As well as employment, gas, and the personal income taxes are some of the highest in the country. Not to mention the utilities here are also high.
This is the very reason I wouldn't buy another house here. I myself am leaving for cheaper living further south. The cost of living is way too expensive in Maryland...
@@Deborahtunes Ok boomer
As somewho who moved from NC to MD for my job, This right here is 100% accurate. Its insane the tax difference
From PG County. Great stuff
Welcome to Maryland where one day it’s snowing next day it’s the apocalypse
😂😂
facts lmao
I'm from Bethesda originally, Besides John Hopkins in Baltimore, Bethesda has the National Institutes of Heath main campus, and also the Walter Reed Medical Center, on the grounds of the old National Naval Medical Hospital as well. Please include this next time, Mr. Malcolm Lawson. Thanks for your wonderful video.
only state that had a tax on rain!
The eastern shore of maryland specifially the mid shore (Cambridge & Easton) are the birthplace and home to both Harriet Tubman, Fredrick Douglass and the underground railroad ...should of def. Been in your top 5...also a MD fun fact a neighborhood called "The Hill" in Easton, MD was recently discovered as being the first "African American Neighborhood in the US" even older than the famous Treme neighborhood of New Orleans!
I would think you to say something about the absolute diversity from the Eastern shore all the way to the mountains of Garrett County.
Great point - homogenous/nondiverse states kinda’ suck! Variety is a gift.
I LOVE your video. It elegantly touches on a lot of what Maryland had to offer. Great job!
Born in DC and raised in Southern Md. let us not forget about the amazing Amish community. All the beaches and restaurants. The seafood is second to none. Now I’m homesick after living 22yrs in Phoenix Arizona. My daughter is still in Millersville and when she’s ready to sell I’ll have her hit you up.
I have many a family in Maryland but I was born and raised in Michigan and I’m hoping to get a place here one day
I grew up in Maryland but moved to San Diego, CA 25 years ago with my military spouse. Actually downtown SD reminds me of Baltimore. I miss crab cakes but don’t miss the weather AT ALL
NASA Goddard, NIST, NIH, NOAA (some of the premier govt sci/tech agencies have headquarters/major operations in MD), largest employer in the state is the U of MD,
then there are some funny named towns like Accident, Maryland off I68. If there is an accident on I68, you might be forced to take detour thru Accident, MD.
We Do love our Flag and our Crabs and anyone here went to NORTHBAY adventure camp
Number 11 should indeed be our very high taxes. We have some of the highest taxes in all of the United States. They tax everything in this state down to rain water.
The city even has a inventory tax.
Very true
True
SS and the first $34000 of your pension aren't taxed, so there is that.
The weather.
January: cold as hell
February: warm
March: coldish
April: Eh
May: actually decent
June: other than the storms, chill
July: nice
August: out of nowhere HOT AS FUCKING HELL
September: warm some days, and hot others.
October: nice during the days, but unreasonably cold at night
November: pretty damn cold
December: cold at first, but after like the 12th of December it’s randomly warm
that's true my brothers love the maryland flag
National Bohemian stopped being it's own brand when they where bought by Stroh's in 1996 and closed the factory down. The beer is currently brewed under contract at the MillerCoors brewing facilities in Eden, NC. Sorry.
Old bay on everything man. Maryland really is the only place I once went on a road trip up to Michigan back down to Florida and no one had old bay at any restaurant
Just watched your video. My family is moving to the La Plata area in about a month from Arkansas. When we get up there we will definitely give you a call to help us find a house
we love our ... we put it on/in everything
It is Johns Hopkins, not John
Thank you very helpful I'm moving from Las Vegas to MD 😁
Beltsville ! 😊 I'm scared but very excited!
Welcome. You’ll love Baltimore. Great music here.
Stay away from Baltimore. Too many thugs
Sounds like a downgrade.
GO TO VIRGINIA IF YOU LIKE COPS MARYLAND HAS PLENTY CAMERAS EVERY WERE IF THE COPS DONT GET YEA THE CAMERA WILL
Most people who live in Maryland want to move out but of course can’t afford to :/
N o i c e
JohnS Hopkins - love this video!
The Bay bridge is NOT the only bottle neck. There's Easton 35 MPH 10-12 stop and go lights. then go 12 miles Bottle neck in Cambridge 35 mph 6 lights. then Salisbury if you stay on RT 50 35mph and a bunch of lights, or the by-pass trying to go from the by-pas to get onto RT 50 again a 270 deg turn at 25-30 mph that's always fun. and then if your going t North OC the one lane in, one lane out RT 90 oh that back up is fun, and RT 50 into OC the oldest part of town with the Worst traffic pattern. So it's not just the bridge for sure LOL
Looking around Elkton, MD
Would have been cool if you mentioned Glen Echo Park, even though they only have the carousel!
I live in Western Maryland near the Appalachian trail. But I have always worked in Montgomery county. The wages are better. So if you have to drive to Montgomery county or the DC area, your in for a hell of a drive. 270 is a nightmare has always been. Hasn't changed or gotten any better in 50 years. And it's a fast paced environment. Mainly because it cost so much to live here. But I love it here.
I’m watching this even tho I live in Maryland
Thanks! Must mean it's somewhat entertaining!
I thought this was going to be more logistical, market-related, home-buying stuff. But this was a fun video. I wish someone had told me more about the property taxes here before I moved.
Can you tell me about the property taxes? I’m thinking about moving to Howard County, MD. What should I know about the property taxes?
@@soul2soul399 Property taxes in PG County are high, rise frequently, and by a lot each time. I don't know about other counties.
@@BetterwithPhoebe seems like a way for the county to seize property for unpaid taxes. I just looked up the tax credits available in PG county and there doesn’t seem to be one for lower income. How could residents of PG county get their county to enact a lower income property tax credit? Im from CA and in 1978 voters in California pushed for and voted to approve an amendment to the state constitution called prop 13. It rolled back most local real estate assessments to 1975 market value levels, limited the property tax rate to 1 percent plus the rate necessary to fund local voter-approved bonded indebtedness, and limited future property tax increases to a maximum of 2% per year. When you buy a house in CA and the next year it’s worth a whole lot more… your property assessment is still only allowed to be raised up to 2% of the price you paid for the home. Many states are now seeing the problem Californians saw in the late 70’s when everyone was moving to CA causing property values to go way up and therefore property tax rates to rise. Residents of high property tax areas need to get vocal and get measures on their state ballots to get limits on property taxes. Nobody should lose their home because the property tax went way up.
We moved to Maryland last year and we love it here so much. Sadly Covid hits and haven't seen any cool places Maryland offers. Although we visited Piney Run Park a few times lol... 🎈
Where in Maryland did you move too that you love so much? We are looking at southern Maryland
Hands the best states
Yellow and Red???? Burgundy and Gold....
Do a video on Severna Park
You have the most Maryland accent ever.
The most popular football team in Muhrry-lun is whoever is playing the Colts that week.
Malcom I lived in Maryland since I was born
I would like to hear about school districts, where are the more family friendly areas to live with a decent school district .
Thanks, that would be a good topic. The website I recommend for researching schools is www.GreatSchools.org Are you thinking about moving here?
1:35 basically just sums up living in Maryland
Maryland strong!
SOUTHERN Maryland here. Anything north of Charles County is a foreign country.
Can’t forget the utz chips!
the OC traffic kills me bc I live right off 50 3 minutes from the bridge
Beautiful state, fabulous food.
I moved to Waldorf Maryland last year I hated it at first but I've kinda enjoyed living here even though I come from Utah and I'm still in the Rocky Mountain culture and seeing how Waldorf isn't really a good area especially the school I go to I still like knowing I can go to an NFL game and college games
yeah, Waldorf has pro's and con's. Schools are no the greatest but it has plenty of shopping and things to do.
Very liberal state-not for those who enjoy 2A rights. Beautiful-great beaches and mountains. Good biking. Highly taxed, make sure you verify cost of living, why the salary offer may be higher-it'll cost you more.
Moved from VA to MD, car insurance is much cheaper, car property tax is only one time thing, not like every 6 month like I used to pay in Fairfax county. I like those two things.
Regarding football teams, many folks in western Maryland are Steeler fans.
If you are a real estate agent you should know that Harper's Ferry is not inMD but in WV
My dad was in the air force for 14 years (I think) he was stationed here and decided to stay here. He's lived in Ohio, Colorado (which I love), New Mexico, Nebraska, and a lot more. It's cool that of all those places, he decided to stay here.
Born and raised here I gave my cons on maryland aswell
Also Maryland all we are welcome
Here you see people from every were
It’s freedom place to live
I love Maryland.
I hope I will also have a nice experience there.
I like this video, but when you speak about “ diversity’s” where are the other folks? I only see white people. Are minorities invited to live there? I am considering moving from NJ and purchasing a home to raise my family in ... hummm?? Check your video sir
WHEN YOU ENTER MARYLAND YOU SEE THE SIGN THAT SAYS WELCOME TO THE FREE STATE YOU ARE FAR FROM FREE WITH ITS ALL DEMACRAP GOVERNMENT AND YOU SAY TOUR FREE MARYLAND IS A POLICE STATE THE MOST ANTI EVERYTHING STATE
WHERE DO YOU GET FREEDOM FROM MARYLAND IS THE MOST POLICE CONTROLLED STATE THERE IS ALSO SOME OF THE LAWS DATE BACK TO COLONIAL
DAYS WHEN MARYLAND GETS RID OF THE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT THEN IT WILL BE A FREE STATE
@@davidmorgan7586 ~ You are so right about that. I don't know where they come up with the name *"Free State,"* but it certainly no longer describes Maryland. Maybe it did back in the colonial days. Between the terrible hiring practices here, high taxes, and the crime; I don't know why anyone would want to live here in Maryland anymore.
Sure there are a few nice things, such as blue crabs, the Navel Academy, it's rich history. But none of those things helps my high rent, or energy bills...
Editor here. It’s Johns Hopkins. Johns with an ‘s.’ It comes from the surname of his great-grandmother, Margaret Johns. But great video!
It’s John’s Hopkins, both the hospital and the University.
Nice video I like it arifaltaf
The great grandson of Dr. Samuel mudd lives next to me. Lol
You should’ve said some thing about far Western Maryland Garrett County
Western Md has talked about becoming part of West Virginia to escape the loons from Montgomery, PG and Baltimore.
We are weird here in Maryland and u forgot crab cake 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀 love ocean city and I had to go to Johns Hopkins for eczema
You must have one of these for every city, because I can't imagine you're actually from MD, since there's not even a trace of an accent that could remotely be from here (or PA or VA either). Then there's the fact that you don't know the real name of Johns Hopkins, lol.
Or the color of redskins
Or that crabs are steamed here, not boiled.
How much is d cheapest 2 bedroom apartment in Maryland and which area is it.
I am looking for an affordable 1 br apartment/house near Bowie or in the surrounding areas. Could you recommend anything?
HI. What is the safest metro area in Maryland? I'm looking to move from NYC to a simiarly metro based area but so far have been told that Maryland metro areas are dangerous
Selling Maryland With Malcolm In DC. Thank you for replying.
Like last year, it snowed in November and it was warm in December, it was also 30 something degrees in early April. Like wth.
Do you also help buyers or sellers in northern Virginia?
We love our French Fries and Gravy.
Number 11: horrible traffic generally everywhere everyday
Number 12: mean people
Traffic is pretty bad.
There's mean people everywhere ;) but boy when I went up there to see all the great sites I sure ran into jerks lol
