Question of the Day ⚡ What was your biggest takeaway from this episode? Let us know! ⬇Learn the one RUclips strategy that gets me 122,490 views PER DAY Here ➡ThinkMasterclass.com
Take notes on your videos! I learned a bunch on this video that I wouldn't remember if I didn't take notes. Biggest takeaway - Your body sends messages to viewers that are positive or negative.
I've taken more notes in this interview than any video. Vanessa, you totally called your audience, that's me. I also bought both of your books, and I'm a big fan. Thanks for the information, I'm about to start a RUclips channel.
One of the most valuable interviews you've done, and your interviews are always amazing so that's saying a lot. I think the "recovering awkward person" probably describes a ton of people on RUclips. I think a lot of us introverts turn to RUclips because it is a venue where we can share our ideas with the world - finally - but in a controlled way. We can have scripts, we can edit. So I think this will be a home run interview for a lot of us. 😉 THANK YOU Think Media!!
Sean I am always impressed by how skillfully and respectfully you conduct these interviews. Thank you for giving us access to these incredible insights!
Long keywords in chapters. Also spacing of my body and the camera. I am so thankful because this verified for me a lot of what I have naturally started doing. This helps me trust my instincts.
All of this explains why I think my live streams helped my channel grow. I exude so much more warmth and not at all rehearsed compared to my edited videos. Been a fan of Vanessa for awhile! Great collab!
For the first time ever...I listened to this podcast this morning on my commute and now I am watching the video tonight to make sure I did not miss anything. So much goodness here. 😎
Only a quarter way through, and thank you, Sean and Vanessa! Such spectacular advice. 💕 Sean, you were literally the first channel I studied before starting my channel 6 years ago. It's been slow growing, but making progress (granted, I don't work full time on it. 😂) And yes, I do have your book, RUclips Secrets. 😉
Without hesitation I’d say this was the best episode to date. I’ll probably have to watch it a couple more times to get all the nuggets that are in there. Thank you both!
You know it’s crazy how much that all these points goes into making a great vid and getting results. People don’t realize. Seans knowledge about RUclips is so valuable
This was one of the most practical and yet helpful videos I've watched in a long time. I loved that I can walk away from those and have something I can implement today with only myself as the tool. Thank you both so much.
Wow! Incredible interview. Everyone should watch this. And I mean literally everyone would have value out of this information. Your podcast is my main go to podcast when commuting to/from work.
Great video! So informative! I will say that using a teleprompter and still appearing authentic definitely requires some skill. Late night TV show hosts have been using cue cards and teleprompters for ages but they know how to look away from it periodically to make it seem like they're not reading. Scripting and using a teleprompter is too helpful not to employ it as a tool sometimes. But some training videos on how to use a teleprompter and still be natural would help a lot.
I think the trick with teleprompters is to NOT use them in a robotic way. It’s important to rehearse with your teleprompter. I use them as a way to pace, structure, eliminate filler words.
OK, when you reenacted the different intro’s you tried, I found myself LEANING into the screen to absorb everything you were saying and doing!! Thus proving your earlier point of… leaning in!! Great video!! Thanks Vanessa (and Sean for introducing us to her!).
I don't always watch how-to videos. I'm listening, though. I personally don't care if she leans over. Your vocal delivery is more important to me. I have a lot of things I have to do during the day, so I'm generally listening to videos like this while working on other projects.
This is the best interview at ThinkMedia I watched so far. I keep watching, pause, taking notes, play again! Very very informative and inspiring. Thanks a lot Sean and Vanessa 🎉
Amazing tips. Loved that these were unique and super helpful! Sean I’d love to hear more about the playlist linking in like videos first time I’ve hear you can do this.
Measuring the distance between your nose and camera is great in theory. But some important info to give would be to take into account which sensor size a users camera is, and which lens they are using. It might have helped if she had a particular focal length lens and sensor size that she uses herself. However that is a great tip she give.
I think that's so very helpful to all RUclips creators and very exciting to how RUclips creators to be successful and thank you for the lesson how RUclips creators success.
This is by far one of the best videos and interviews on your channel. As a student of thinkmedia and fan of your work Sean- this was super powerful with so many gold nuggets in every single input Vanessa has given. will be repeat watching this video and taking notes. Thankyou thankyou.
Excellent interview! I’ve never seen a bad VVE interview and this is no exception. Packed full of actionable advice and tactics. I took a page worth of notes. 🙌🏼
What a great interview! I love both yours and Vanessa’s channels, you both create such helpful content🙂I just bought the book & I can’t wait to read it!!
Fantastic, I’ve read it like the fact that you have dialed down the entertainment/humor portion of your video content it makes it much easier for audience like myself to watch without having the fear of needing to skip those moments, because personally, I came here for information, and this video is exactly what I needed so thank you for such good work 🙏🏻
Gold. Beautiful. Vanessa, you communicate effortlessly and in a beautiful way! It's hard to believe that you once stuggled socially. And kudos to you for studying the topic, researching and practicing all of the nuances of communication to have, I would say, mastered it! Well done young lady!
An important point I'd love to add to this: over rehearsal can indeed reduce speaker authenticity, BUT some of us are much better than others at very authentic yet rehearsed material. It's just how some brains work. I have ALWAYS rehearsed speaking ever since I was a small child and to fail to do so would be inauthentic - even dishonest. We're all different. Let's get lots of input but know ourselves. "To thyself be true." Thanks, Think Media. FanTASTic content! -- Dean Crabb - YT, FB, IG
I remember relying on scripts too much and it would actually kill my cadence and made me appear less knowledgeable, finding a happy medium is key! I've moved to bullet points for my personal content where I want to showcase the true me & I save 100% scripting for the corporate shooting stuff I do at work.
@@andyutahfilms Yes! I'm getting better so bullet points should usually be enough for social media personality stuff. Thank you for taking a moment here.
Every question i have been wondering about is answered in this podcast wow ! Thanks think media and Vanessa van edwards! I was thinking about thumbnails if i should use a fake or a real background.. question answered!
Super insightful. I'm interested in the lifestyle vlog type content creators who don't follow any of these tips. Would love to know what the secret sauce is behind those. They don't do hub, help, etc. or formulaic videos. Just aesthetic, scenic chats with no pattern in the type of content they create. A couple I follow each have about a million subscribers and get 100k views easily in the first few hours. I wonder if the only secret sauce there is authenticity.
Thank you so much for sharing these awesome strategies. Even before I finished watching the video, I ordered Vanessa's book! One question I have as I'm listening--would it be possible to provide the links to any of the research studies that Vanessa references?
What an amazing interview! Super helpful tips and insights creators might be missing in the creation of their videos. The nerdy theater director / Yale Drama actress in me LOVED it. Thanks for clearly articulating and sharing all this knowledge! Totally worth listening to the whole interview!

WOW. This was so insightful, not just for creators that vlog but how to get a hang on being more confident in everyday speaking. Just awesome!
Using longtail keywords for chapters in a video is a nugget, I hope nobody misses.
I def have to go back and adjust some of my chapters - thank you for the reminder!

Every time your gestures are lying, my first impression isn't to believe your gestures- its "wtf?" 😂 Gets me every time
Oh man what a golden nugget this info is for someone who is learning cameras and presentations.
Yay!
I’m saving this episode for sure, she’s speaking my language(s)😊
I appreciate her explanations and detailed description!
The examples of what hun, hero and help content look like in different scenarios was incredibly helpful.
Hub not hun!
I enjoyed your video and agree with everything that you said I make it a point to be genuine in all of my videos

This was an exceptional interview with lots of awesome information.
Using these to psychologically trick my viewers TODAY!!! Thank you!!!!
I think the trick with teleprompters is to NOT use them in a robotic way. It’s important to rehearse with your teleprompter. I use them as a way to pace, structure, eliminate filler words.

I found a ton of value in this content too - definitely going to apply it to my channel.

OK, when you reenacted the different intro’s you tried, I found myself LEANING into the screen to absorb everything you were saying and doing!! Thus proving your earlier point of… leaning in!! Great video!! Thanks Vanessa (and Sean for introducing us to her!).
Wow, this lady's acting is so next-level. Wow. The impressions, both of other people and herself. Amazing

I love her. Pure gold. The advice on intonation especially resonated with me. Wish more YTers would take her advice. ;-)
