One of the most valuable interviews you've done, and your interviews are always amazing so that's saying a lot. I think the "recovering awkward person" probably describes a ton of people on RUclips. I think a lot of us introverts turn to RUclips because it is a venue where we can share our ideas with the world - finally - but in a controlled way. We can have scripts, we can edit. So I think this will be a home run interview for a lot of us. 😉 THANK YOU Think Media!!

Great video! So informative! I will say that using a teleprompter and still appearing authentic definitely requires some skill. Late night TV show hosts have been using cue cards and teleprompters for ages but they know how to look away from it periodically to make it seem like they're not reading. Scripting and using a teleprompter is too helpful not to employ it as a tool sometimes. But some training videos on how to use a teleprompter and still be natural would help a lot.

I think the trick with teleprompters is to NOT use them in a robotic way. It’s important to rehearse with your teleprompter. I use them as a way to pace, structure, eliminate filler words.

Measuring the distance between your nose and camera is great in theory. But some important info to give would be to take into account which sensor size a users camera is, and which lens they are using. It might have helped if she had a particular focal length lens and sensor size that she uses herself. However that is a great tip she give.

An important point I'd love to add to this: over rehearsal can indeed reduce speaker authenticity, BUT some of us are much better than others at very authentic yet rehearsed material. It's just how some brains work. I have ALWAYS rehearsed speaking ever since I was a small child and to fail to do so would be inauthentic - even dishonest. We're all different. Let's get lots of input but know ourselves. "To thyself be true." Thanks, Think Media. FanTASTic content! -- Dean Crabb - YT, FB, IG

I remember relying on scripts too much and it would actually kill my cadence and made me appear less knowledgeable, finding a happy medium is key! I've moved to bullet points for my personal content where I want to showcase the true me & I save 100% scripting for the corporate shooting stuff I do at work.

Super insightful. I'm interested in the lifestyle vlog type content creators who don't follow any of these tips. Would love to know what the secret sauce is behind those. They don't do hub, help, etc. or formulaic videos. Just aesthetic, scenic chats with no pattern in the type of content they create. A couple I follow each have about a million subscribers and get 100k views easily in the first few hours. I wonder if the only secret sauce there is authenticity.
