Chet Atkins,Arthur Smith and Tommy Emmanuel,1999- The RAREST version of Guitar Boogie?

  • Well...this definitely isn't the best filmed or played version. It suffers from bad camera work, poor audio, audience members blocking the shot , and me having a coffing fit during the performance! I normally wouldn't put something of this quality out ,but it does have something ... HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE!! In this video Chet Atkins Introduces Arthur Smith, the man who wrote and recorded the song Guitar Boogie in the mid 1940's, to Tommy Emmanuel. Chet sits down between the two to listen to this once in a lifetime jam - the "old wave" meets the new. As a side note not only did Arthur Smith write Guitar Boogie, in the 1950's he co- wrote the song that would come to be known as "Dueling Banjos" and be made famous in the film Deliverance. Poor camera work, bad audio, maybe I shouldn't feel too embarrassed. I guess it's no different than eighty five percent of the videos on You Tube... the only difference is this has enough historical importance that it deserves to be seen!

I am a lucky man. When I was a boy, I would wake up in the morning to the sound of Arthur Smith's guitar on television and the smell of my mama frying bacon. I grew up and went to the Sheraton in Nashville in 1999 and heard Tommy playing in the corner of the lobby. Both of those great pickers inspire me to this day.

I believe it was on Sunday mornings for me (Central SC). But I can recall the show not knowing the real icon I was listening to. No Arthur Smith no James Brown (The GF of Soul). Now study that.

All of the WOW! I loved this so much. Tommy has been so blessed to have had the chance to play with some of his childhood heroes, and every time shows us again that he is pure class all the way. He's always so respectful. Clips like this are an absolute treasure to be thankful for. You've done brilliantly well to share these clips with us all. Thankyou 💕

Absolutely fantastic. As others have said, TE talks about this very moment in another YT clip. This is an incredible treasure. I feel humbled and so very jealous that you got to experience this. In turn, all the finger picking fans on YT are lucky you posted. You're helping sway the balance of chaff and tripe on YT in favour of pure class. If you have more treasures, please share 'em out. Brilliant!

It's great to see Chet MC-ing these parts of CAAS. I knew he met fans at CAAS but I was not aware that he "hosted" any parts of it from the stage. TE still speaks of meeting and playing with Arthur Smith and "Guitar Boogie" is his biggest RUclips draw to date which underlines the historical value of this post. I agree with the other guys: " :D" and "awesome" . Keep 'em coming!

When I was young. My mum had a Country and Western LP (Thats a 33rpm vinyl disc for any newbies lol). Guitar Boogie was on it and I listened to it over and over and over... (my mum told me it broke). Years later, all grown up and working I could never remember the name of it or by who but always remembered the tune. Today, at my Uncle's I found the LP took me back. (my mum had given it to him to "borrow" I think for peace and quiet to be honest

@klavier1us Thanks for commenting. I didn't know Tommy talked about playing with Arthur. I would be interested in what had to say. Chet always played the final concert at CAAS but this year Tommy started taking over the bulk of his duties. Chet and Tommy did get to play a couple of songs together, which I have on tape. Chet was in poor health at this time so he participated as much as he could. I lament the fact that I didn't tape previous years. So many great performances lost forever...
