Can we get improvements and combine features that were better and more modern to this model that will come any time soon?
    1. When the Pentax KP was released in 2017, it had an electric shutter and a mechanical shutter. If the model that will be released soon (Pentax K-1 Mark III or future model of Pentax DSLR) has an electric shutter with a mechanical shutter, it will be an advantage or at least breakeven when compared to a modern mirrorless model.
    2. For the latest model of K-3 Mark III in APS-C format, it has a fixed touch screen. When I'm looking at modern mirrorless, at least we got vary-angle with tilt-screen in the Sony A7R Mark 5. For this model, can we get at least a touchscreen with a variable angle or variable angle with tilt-screen in this or a future model of this?
    3. When I am looking at the all-model mirrorless brand, we get autofocus points on the electronic viewfinder and LCD monitor that are equally numbered as the same, but in the latest model, the Pentax K-1 Mark II, we got the numbering of autofocus points at 33 points and 25 points in the optical viewfinder. We will be able to use it more and in a wider variety of situations. Because it is not limited by the autofocus pattern in the viewfinder alone.
Can we get at least 2 of 3 from above?

Pentax should create the first Hybrid camera with an OVF and a mirrorless shutter inside the same camera body. If you want to use the viewfinder, use the OVF and the mirror inside the camera as every DSLR curently does. But if you want to shoot it like a mirrorless camera, all Pentax would have to do is add a shutter that closes and put it behind the mirror, then rework the software to match and enable the user to incorporate the mirror lock up mode. If you put the camera up to your eye, it is a DSLR camera. If you use the back LCD screen in Live View Mode, it functions as a mirrorless camera. No need to change the flange distance. No need to offer a new mount. No need to change lenses.

Great to hear that they may be seriously working on a new model. As long as Pentax accepts that they are a niche brand, they should strongly try to think outside of the box. I've heard that at least one old canon model was hacked by hobbyists so that they can custom modify the software. Pentax should either open up the software or at least give programmers an API - many hobbyists would go nuts over this. Along with that, they should provide their tethering software for free. I'd like to see Pentax make their mount modular - I know this would be hard to accomplish, but I think pentaxians would find it interesting to be able to use open mount lenses like the E and L mount lenses.

"As long as Pentax accepts that they are a niche brand, they should strongly try to think outside of the box". Indeed, my thoughts exactly. I have my own ideas and opinions of what that niche may be (they differ from yours) but the point still stands, and I believe they are capable of doing so as the film photography project shows. Sure as eggs is eggs, an incremental improvement to the K1 ii is not going to set the world alight, given that digital cameras of all ilk have already been so good for so long and the widespread social media bias against DSLRs and Pentax in particular.

Thanks for the summary Kobie. In answer to your query about manufacturing in Vietnam, I wondered the same thing. But from what I gather, Pentax have shut down their manufacturing plant in the Philippines and have 'consolidated' manufacturing with the lens production plant in Vietnam. The Pentax 17 as well as more recent versions of the K3iii have a 'manufactured in Vietnam' label on them. So again - plausible.

An intriguing read. The new camera would need to be a major leap forwards and be a state of the art iteration of the DSLR form. Hard to tell if it was just a well informed opinion piece or a chat GPT “what if”. The K1iii is imminent and stands to be special regardless of what’s been examined in this article. I am tempted to suppose that CF Express will be needed to cope with the projected specifications. Pentax will work it out for most real world use cases rather than for some flashy moon-shot cases that literally need you to leave the planet for. It’s going to be good, I think. It is astonishing how a forumthread in a german forum shake the Pentax world, i'm following this thread since the beginning. For me the biggest questionmark/inconsistency is in the type of memory modules. Taken into account the claimed video capabilities what constant write Rate do i need for 4K Video or higher (assuming 4K/120 or 8K/30, does the specification of SD-XC allow that? The most intersting part is the current line-up of FF-lenses do the render accordingly to the needs of a 61MP sensor, or does the majaority of lenses to be renewed (Namely the holy trinity, but also interesting lenses like the samyangs 14/2,8, 85/1,4, 135/2,0, or the limited FA-HDs).
The camera in my ears (despite the price) sounds to good to be true (my opinion) as it covers nearly every wish i claimed for a successor. What is missing so far in the rumours are any information regarding dynamic range.
And for me the silence from Ricohs side is irritating no denial, no confirmation. I'm very curious if i have to spennd a lot of money in the next year, or an enormous amount of money, or no money.

Lol, maybe we all just have trust issues and they actually ARE going to make all these changes and fix every issue that was brought to attention by a good amount of people. i am wishfully hoping that they actually are going to do all this.
as for the silence i think that is always how Pentax has been, they stay close to the cuff and don't release hardly any information on what they are working on. it is a strategy a lot of companies go for and it does work. It drums up a lot of hype from potential customers on what the new next best thing is coming out.

They already have a lot of old lenses in their current lineup which need replacement.
Would be really nice to get new FF: 50mm*, 135mm*, 200mm*, 300mm* and 400mm*.

Anyway Pentax must work on their long term supply chain other or they can just close the company.

Pentax was originally German, well the name Pentax was taken from Pentaprism and Contax and madeinto Pent-ax. This happened after WW2 because a lot of Germany's camera industry fell under East German USSR occupation, and in the sorting out of brand names, the "Pentax" model name was sold to Japan and the German designed M42 rights to Pentax/Asahi. Its basically an Axis foces camera I just realised. But so is Nikon after Germany's Ikon camera merged with Nippon cameras. Cosina bought Voightlander and also makes Zeiss lenses and other products.
So because Pentax is from Germany originally, Pentax Japan might be using Pentax in Germany to release this information.
I do not think that the K-1iii will have the fastest continuous shooting mode in the industry, that probably belongs to the Sony A9iii. Its just the translation makes it sound like thats what its saying. So the buffer chip they're after is more of a dslr era chip rather than a mirrorless 30fps endless buffers, and so they have to seek that out specifically. Its not going to be mirrorless 30fps, but maybe 10-12fps.
I'm personally skeptical of this information because Pentax would have made a video from Japan that they're putting the K-1iii into production. I recall they had announced the K-3iii well ahead of its release and then there was a delay, and finally it appeared. So just dropping a K-1iii will not prepare the Pentax users for gathering together their penny jars, or cut back on their food budgets to save up for this release. They need to give at least a years notice that its coming and not like this, that its entering into production.........
Usually the previous model has to be discontinued for a few months before they release the following model. There are large numbers of K-1ii models on my Ricoh website so I do not see it yet, unless Pentax will keep the K-1mark 2 as the lower spec model and this new K-1 mark 3 as the higher spec professional model, kind of like how Sony has the A7 and A7R.
So if this is true, then a K-1iii might be here before Christmas, just in time for our countries economic recession.

Faster processing and FPS, improved AF, improved dynamic range and ISO performance. As the K1 is already very good in regard to some of these and no real slouch on the others, I can't see any real reason for most people to upgrade unless cost is not an issue. For most of us it is.

@@ffll8427 But DLSRs can't compete with the mirrorless market, the market already reflects this change. If there was any doubt here then the major companies would still be producing both, but they do not. Look... all cameras are cameras, some have different specs than others, deploy different tech, but the vast majority of the industry saw that ditching the mirror came with far too many benefits to ignore and created pathways to improvements that just can't coexist with the mirror. It's absolutely fine if the mirror is not an obstacle for a particular user and/or the perks that mirrorless cameras have are superfluous for that specific user, but that's just a singular opinion plucked from the masses. We're talking about the MARKET here, the INDUSTRY as a whole, and that conclusion happened years ago...
Yes its VERY COOL that Pentax still do DSLR's, catering to a segment of the market that prefer this user experience, but that doesn't mean it stands a chance at COMPETING with the rest of the dominant market. No one is going to ditch their Sony A9III's for a K-1III etc.

@@ffll8427 Hmmm. I don't think that it is a case of competing with the mirrorless market any more. After all that market is shrinking too. I think it is a case of finding the right niche (like Leica has done). What exactly that niche is I am not certain but it must be based on the optical experience of the viewfinder, which to be fair Pentax promoted with the K3 iii. I would like Pentax to be really bold and produce a relatively compact FF DSLR. Call is the new LXd if you will. To make it compact - ditch the SR system, use the battery from the KF (but allow a battery grip option) and keep the screen from the K3 iii. To make these "loses" more marketable give it a 24mp BSI sensor which should be easy to source and would improve even further low light performance and DR, highlight how such a sensor would be more usable for legacy K mount glass, even re-release a classic MF lens and a split image micro prism focus screen option. I know this would not happen, but I do think that Pentax does need to think outside the box a bit and do something bold rather than just release a slight incremental improvement over the K1 ii, which let's be honest is likely to be slated by RUclips shills for being a) Pentax and b) a DSLR in the mirrorless age, irrespective of how good the camera may be, if they pay it any attention at all. And Pentax can be bold as the film project is showing.

Can Pentax keep the costs of a 60MP down for a same price retail price? The answer is NO.
“If Pentax were to release a future K-1 Mark III full-frame DSLR, and they aimed to price it around €2000 while offering a sensor larger than the current 36 MP, they would likely select a sensor that balances resolution, dynamic range, and affordability. Here’s what we can expect based on market trends and technology available today:
Likely Sensor Characteristics for the Pentax K-1 III:
    Resolution:
A logical step up would be to move from 36 MP to 42-45 MP. This increase provides higher resolution for landscape and studio photographers, which Pentax traditionally targets with its high-detail DSLRs.
Sensors in the 40-45 MP range are common in competing cameras like the Sony A7R III (42 MP) and Nikon Z7 II (45.7 MP). Pentax might adopt a similar strategy.
    Sensor Type:
BSI (Backside-Illuminated) CMOS: Pentax would likely use a BSI sensor for improved light-gathering efficiency. This would enhance low-light performance, dynamic range, and high-ISO sensitivity.
The Sony 45.7 MP sensor used in cameras like the Nikon Z7 II could be a strong candidate, as it's relatively affordable for the resolution it offers and provides excellent image quality. Pentax has used Sony sensors in the past, so this partnership would make sense.
    Dynamic Range and Low-Light Performance:
Pentax has a strong focus on landscape photography and astrophotography, so we’d expect the sensor to offer excellent dynamic range (likely 14-15 stops) and good low-light performance despite the higher resolution. A sensor in the 42-45 MP range would still have relatively large pixels compared to higher MP sensors like the 61 MP Sony A7R V.
They may improve ISO performance by integrating dual gain architecture like some of the latest BSI sensors have.
    Cost Constraints:
Pentax will likely keep the price around €2000 by not going for cutting-edge technology like a stacked sensor (which is far more expensive). Instead, they may prioritize an existing but highly effective sensor, such as:
Sony’s 42.4 MP BSI CMOS sensor used in older but still excellent cameras like the Sony A7R III or a slightly improved version of it.
    Video Performance (Secondary):
While Pentax is more known for still photography, video performance is becoming increasingly important. They might add 4K video with 10-bit internal recording, but Pentax is unlikely to focus heavily on video, keeping costs down.
Potential Sensors for the Pentax K-1 Mark III:
Sony 42.4 MP BSI CMOS Sensor:
This is a strong candidate as it’s already used in various full-frame cameras and is proven to deliver excellent results, balancing high resolution with good noise control.
It would be an affordable option to integrate into a camera priced around €2000.
Sony 45.7 MP BSI CMOS Sensor (from the Nikon Z7 II):
If Pentax wanted to push the resolution further, the 45.7 MP sensor would be a great choice. It offers excellent dynamic range and low-light performance without a huge jump in cost.
This sensor would position the K-1 III as a direct competitor to cameras like the Nikon Z7 II and Canon EOS R5.
Why Pentax Would Choose One of These Sensors:
Resolution without Compromising Dynamic Range: Both the 42 MP and 45.7 MP sensors offer higher resolution while maintaining excellent dynamic range and pixel size that’s suitable for low-light performance.
Affordability: These sensors are widely used in the industry and would be more affordable than newer, cutting-edge technologies like stacked or 61 MP sensors, making it easier to hit the €2000 price point.
Proven Performance: Pentax’s customers value image quality, and these sensors are well-tested in other cameras, making them safe bets for a reliable DSLR like the K-1 III.
    Summary:
The Pentax K-1 III would most likely feature a 42-45 MP BSI CMOS sensor, possibly sourced from Sony, given their long-standing relationship. The sensor would provide higher resolution than the current 36 MP while maintaining excellent image quality and dynamic range, all while keeping the price around €2000”

it would be an absolute detriment to pentax as a company if they did not proceed to develope and release a new k1 markiii. there is no way they dont come out with one unless they just really plan on not being in the market of producing dslr's. They as a company NEED to keep their ultimate flagship relevant and development on it should not be stopped
