I definitely need all of this for my next arduino project
Yeah, Peter was awesome. Spent the best part of a day and half showing me around and talking shop. Should have just had a helmet cam and left it running...
I would watch as many videos as it took to explain what all of these tools do to a lay person. I am fascinated by your world.
Peter definitely knows his stuff!!
Doh, no teardown! :D
Thx Agilent and Dave
It's Dave's sense of humor and fun and his willingness to tell it like it is that keeps his channel top hitting. Based on the content they've enjoyed in the past, It's reasonable to assume subscribers wouldn't be bored to tears with this offering.
The top calibrator is either a Fluke 5520A or a Fluke 5522A. They look identical, and are almost identical is specs. The bottom calibrator is a Datron/Wavetek (now Fluke) 4808.
this is 5520A. You can tell by handles and front bezel
As Hewlett & Packard Fan and collector I would watch this video for hours
Thanks Dave & Agilent, really really interesting
I took the opportunity to shoot a whole bunch of footage while I was down there visiting them in Melbourne. For those who don't like it, tough :-P
You beat up on Peter pretty good lately...Three cheers for Peter!!!
Cant thank you enough for this interesting, informative adventure!
I'm still laughing about all those people piling out of the door at the start! Keeping it light & entertaining - good stuff!
calibrate the calibrator's calibrator's calibrator.
27:51 touched the instrument "a 50G network analyzer". But its a E4448A 50 GHz spectrum Analyzer
No, just their regular cal cycle + a system verification when powered up for the first time. It's been proven over time that is does not affect the instruments.
Holly molly, this video is pure gold, good old days before Keysight shows up.
Interesting stuff, but complicated to follow when you aren't familiar with calibration procedures. This is a subject that would benefit from a few DaveCAD drawings!
Skip to 26:00 to actually see the toys.
LOL. Good to see Pete on UT ! Just saw him last week on site !!!
what's that "oops" at 31:45 all about? Were we not supposed to see that? :D
Can we see the Rigol portable calibration lab next? Oh, wait...
+wondras an 8 year old chinese kid with a one hung low multimeter and a plastic screwdriver
will they come spruce up my eevblog multimeter?
can i offer the same service with my 1052e
One hour, just one hour! That is all I want and my inner nerd will be satisfied eternally....
I like when you travel around and make vids :) Always something new :)
Watched this a second time today. Very cool.
When they actually move the container somewhere, do not all the vibrations and jolts during shipping cause all the calibration stuff in there to have to be recalibrated???
Yes, youtube have very advanced auto-detection algorithms for copyright audio material. Each video is scanned for this when it is uploaded. They take it very seriously. I would not be able to monetise the video if I had someone else's material in it.
Whoaah ! calibration gear paradise :)
In the old box second rack to the right at the very top looks like the fluke resistance tester you tore down tho it has different LED display maybe a slightly newer model? Learning from u buddy hey!!!!
Nice vid! Accredited Calibration Services (Marsh Metrology) in Canada has developed a dedicated mobile lab facility for RF/Microwave type test equipment for multiple manufacturers including Agilent equipment as well. A second mobile lab can calibrate parameters (electrical, temperature, pressure, torque and more) to ISO 17025! Contact us for more details!
I'm amazed that there's one measly door protecting all of it.
And I thought that at my old job we had a lot of test equipment!!!
An oscilloscope with flappy disc drive in 2013? I guess agilent never wants to drop floppy and use USB drive!
Three MILLION?? Ready to ship?!
I am going to nick it.
Ernst Stavro Blofeld If they build this 3mln$ lab, to fix all of their fails, this mean there is soo many fails on equipment for over 3mln$...
Arek R. I just want to steal their container for the sake of stealing.
Ernst Stavro Blofeld Steal it, then put it on Craigslist
Kasper Guldmann Nah, on ebay you always get a better price.
I wonder if the GPS time source also has a built-in anti-theft system :D
When all the people were streaming out of the container, you should have overlayed a Benny Hill theme soundtrack, had a few people jump up and down etc! Ok - that's what I was seeing in my head anyhow. :D
I could live in that thing.
Good stuff Dave. Can't wait of the the synchrotron vid.
All it needs is a flux capacitor and an alternate dimension filter/ barrier.
How casually, "so here we go from DC to 50 GHz"
"So here we from 'easy does it' to 'black magic and the occasional mathematical model for things that kinda don't exist but fuck it it works.'
Great video, beautiful gear!
you mean you don't think they sold 100 phase noise analyzers after this video ?!?! lol. Peter seems like a great guy
could you imagine the it wiring diagram for that trailer, wow
Yes, you are correct sir.
i just bought the 2nd counter down in the last rack (5334B) on ebay for 24 dollars us
We want MORE Cal videos!!
Hi Dave
if you are still thinking of what is it the image on the swedish postages , it's butterfly wing pattern ...
Ta Da !
by by from Italy keep on dude !
50GHz network analyzer
50GHz.oscilloscope
Guess only there was like 1 million or so..
Thanks a lot for this video, very interesting!
What do you calibrate the calibration instrament that you calibrate the calibration instrament with?
+James skippinhopper with one or more masters references which in terms must have a higher resolution, accuracy, repeatability, etc. that are calibrated and traceable to equipments and the accredited laboratory that performs the calibrations or measurements for those masters and the traceable goes on.
Usually those masters are use just for in-house equipments calibrations only.
Some equipments have to send out to a accredited laboratory (say a national laboratory) for calibration as the company may not possess the necessary equipments, masters or even skills to perform the calibrations for those equipments.
I work in measurement and calibration house so that's how I get to know all those stuffs....
That's perdy smart!
LOL
I don't think too many EEVBlog watchers said after this video that "oh, to agilent provides service of 3M$ worth of mobile test gear. Better get my fluke calibrated" So not much in advertisement there.
Bet they use Fluke MetCal and MetTrack for cal automation and asset tracking.
Nope.
I have two guess: The probe belongs to a costumer or is not calibrated.
To all those who say this is the Tardis, I would just like to say that the Tardis wishes it was this. The Tardis has dreams about being this.
They use this to calibrate the Tardis. :)
I doubt they are concerned with competition, there isn't much money in running a calibration lab...
That 19" rack equipments is worth most
Are there four of you Dave?
Guess what it's internal code name is? :->
That's what I was thinking!
You just wanna push every button and smell the gear, right? :->
any chance of a video when an actual calibration is made?
3 million bucks? It's like a bank vault you can put on wheels! Wooohooooooo!
It's the Tardis of calibration.
So..they are giving this away in a lottery? Where do I buy a ticket.
I'll take two then.
hold the camera steady
I AM USING WAVETEK AND FLUKES CALIBRATOR IN SQUARES METERS RPM VOLTAGES METERS PYROMETERS TEMPERATURE DRY BLOCKS CALIBRATOR PRESSURE CALIBRATOR ALL MULTIMETERS CALIBRATED IN FLUKES TORQUE DIAL INDICATOR TRANSSET
Well, you know, copyright and all that jazz...
Wow! Only $3M?
Why not rewind the tape again and again. Makes it look longer. Or biGGer.
Who wouldn't?
I meant to say resistance calibrator
ahem.. just connectors.. says the man with all the connectors.
Can you still fit 30 people in there? LOL
No no... "all that jazz" was a different show (ha ha). Does YT get mad even if you use one of the videos soundtracks posted here?
youtube . com/watch?v=ZnHmskwqCCQ for all those that are still confused!
How do you calibrate calibration equipment?
Episode #422
You wouldn't want to end up at the big bang because your used an uncalibrated tardis now would you.
I'm guessing I already have.......
If that was the case then every callibration video would be the same.
... but what is it actually for? what are they calibrating?
+Kevin Klika
Everything. DMMs, Counters, Attenuators, Oscilloscopes, Signal generators.
Research laboratories, Repair shops and even other calibration services all need to know that their reference units are accurate to their precision.
who cares, so many buttons and flashing lights :))
celebrities buy cars. I would buy this.
racks on racks on racks
Gimme !
Dear santa
this is called free advertisement, not being polite and awesome
Haha 'low frequency' >= 9GHz
3 million bucks? I'll take 2 thanks...
$3M worth of gear and still using Windows XP
I have to flag this for "pornographic material" xD
Accreditation does not mean you are a good cal lab.
Or just get a truck and drive away :)
Suuuuuuuuuuuun ^:)^
"portable"
haha
Skip to 26:00 to actually see the toys.
