Run review: This run of SMS was highly enjoyable for me. The runner knew his setups very well and nailed almost all of his tricks. Combine the tricks with sleek and optimized movement and you've go got visually pleasing run as well.
3 hours can be kind of long for a run but the couch made this run. They joke and tease and even pay homage (not well but still welcomed) to the original dododo crew. You get the sense they're all just good buds who enjoy SMS. Announcers were a bit in your face at first but it's a charity event so it's expected.
All in all, the couch and runner did a great job and if you've got free time this is a great run to watch if you're interested in cool tricks and speed running.
The Party Boy apparent, at least for me, at the start!

You got to commemorate the couch/2015 doodoodoo crew for trying. They were on and off but they still tried even though they didn't want to at first.
them talking about how spraying the moon is cryptic because no one ever talks to npcs. i actually like talking to npcs in these games. this and sonic adventure dx :)

nope. I agree 100% they are. you get the FULL experience of clips and glitches the game has to offer as opposed to any %

When they made Trey a “temporary” shrine scholar for the day. He seems so unimpressed. He’s had more records in this game than anyone on the couch.
I'm coming back to this run in 2023 for the couch/commentary.
Notably:
At work whenever I take the plastic wrap off something, crumple it up, and shoot it into the trash I go "KOBEEEEE" because of this run. (47:40)
I also regularly say to myself, "Nice drivers license, dood!" (35:38)

If you guys wanna see how frustrating the pachinko machine can be just watch the game grumps play that part.
Gamegrumps purposely play bad. It's a show.
Actually isn't that bad if you don't move after the launch, because end up landing on a nail in the middle of the pachinko, and then you can just hover to any of the coins from there easily with a little skill.
They dont even know how the Secret Shine music goes. It kills me inside that they are out of sync and style.
It must be so distracting for the speed runner when they do that

Something I find interesting is that the glitch they talk about at around 52:50 (the one where you clip through the ferris wheel) is actually in the official Nintendo Power player's guide that was released when the game came out. Correct me if I'm wrong on that, but I swear that's how I found out about the glitch, since I've known you could do that ever since I was a little kid.
How do people find some of these skips? Does someone actually play the game and think, "hey, what if I threw a banana right before I jumped? Maybe I'd clip through a wall!"
vanvonhunter It's just like Skyrim, but with plates instead. Hold a plate vertically against the wall, and you can clip through.

There is some basic knowledge about game design that transfers over to most games. The applications of exploits vary, but a little know how of game breaking gives you a compass point for finding glitches

trey did a y-turn, which means he used the first-person mode to turn mario mid-jump so that he could grab the coin, which happened to be close to the one he collected right before this one.

Kyal's world probably to take a short break since the run is 3.5 hours.
The run commercials every so often since it's a charity stream, it usually doesn't affect the short runs because they put them between the runs, but there's really nowhere else on the long runs.
Edit: the reason you aren't seeing the commercials is because of how twitch saves its VODs.
