Mel Gaynor is an outstanding drummer. His work on New Gold Dream is amazing and live performances stunning. Took the band to new heights for sure.

This is the ending song in "The Breakfast Club", one of my favorite movies of all time. The lyrics so fit the scene of the characters walking out of detention. I want to scream, "Yes!" every time I hear this song.

Me too... this song is so linked to "The Breakfast Club" in my mind that it is impossible to hear the song and not be brought back to the movie. Similar to "Stuck in the Middle With You" and "Reservoir Dogs."

The Songwriters for this song were huge fans of Simple Minds but they kept rejecting it so they did "shop" it to other Artists like Billy Idol who also rejected it. The reason was Simple Minds only records "Music that we write". It took the Lead Singer's (Jim Kerr) wife who was Chrissie Hyndes of The Pretenders to finally convince her husband & the band to do this song. They thought "OK, Let's just use it as another song to fill up our upcoming Album contract obligations and they Recorded it and completely forgot about it!.....Until it became their First #1 Hit in America! They were stunned!

You must watch The Breakfast Club. This song is the theme song to that movie and it is a great one. Nostalgic...Also, since we doing 80s then please react to Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne. Song titled Close My Eyes Forever.

You CLEARLY haven't seen the classic movie "Breakfast Club"!!!! You MUST watch it.
So....I'm wondering if you could do 2 Kennedy Center Honors. First, Heart, doing "Stairway to Heaven" for Led Zeppelin, & also Adam Lambert doing "Believe" for Cher...(made her tear up!!)
And a huge THANKS from this seriously ill lady in beautiful Sacramento CA for appreciating the musical genius of George Harrison!!! It's incredible to see someone watch the "Concert for George" 1 year after he died, & who actually realizes who Dhani is!!

Oh yes the drummer is great. Please listen to the drummer (Brian Downey), with Thin Lizzy on the single, "Bad Reputation". I think he's good too.

So I take it that you've never seen The Breakfast Club then. This song was the icing on the cake for this excellent fuckin movie bcuz to me both the movie & the song are absolute classics & this is coming from a 51 yr old diehard hard rock & heavy metal lover his whole life. I loved this song the first time I ever heard it way back in the I think mid 80's when it first came out & had to keep my friends from finding out bcuz they would've never let me hear the end of it. I love your reactions bcuz they are very genuine so keep up the great work 👏

Good reaction! Mel Gaynor the drummer is a real powerhouse and a top bloke too. Definitely check out 'Waterfront' and 'Book Of Brilliant Things' by SM from a year or two before for really amazing examples of Mel's talents.
