I can't get behind not knowing the schedule or not being all hands on deck with everything or not wanting to micromanage the set, heck even manage it, you can have assistants for that. But disregarding people's work because you don't feel like working on a particular scene right now is just wrong.
.... You *CAN get behind it?
I'm sorry, I think I'm picking up what you're setting down but this comment is pinned so I just want clarification😅
I really enjoy and respect the content creators work... Making sure all hands are on the same page😋
Brad and Angelina fell in love when they instinctively lied to Liman about having pet names just to embarrass him
This is the sequel to the bourne episode we needed
Not only do we get a new Shit Show but 35 seconds in and we do an Arrested Development reference?? Hells yeah this is going to be a good day
I just get this huge wave of joy when I see that you guys posted a video. I understand that these take a long time and huge effort to make, so I'm never expecting a new upload. That's like a surprise every time! I know that the next 1.5 hours will be fun, intreresting and crazy in the best kind of way
That’s so great to hear! These kinds of comments make it all worth it!
Jon Favreau wrote Swingers with the intention of directing it. Trying to raise funding, he eventually met Doug Liman who agreed to fully fund the $250,000 needed, with the money coming from his Dad. What Favreau didn't realise was, Liman would only give them the money if he was directing.
On the subject of Pitt wondering why he was asked to express more emotion in a scene where only the back of his head was in shot... I've heard many actors say that you should always be present in the scene. Not just as a courtesy to your fellow actors but primarily because your acting, even if unseen, benefits the other's performance. Sean Astin spoke of it on a Lord of The Rings reunion at a convention, and I'm sure I've heard Michael Caine say it also when he has spoken about the craft of screen acting. so, yea. Liman was right.
The only little Toad I want to talk about is the one helping Mario & Luigi. Also, you mentioning Empires of the Deep made me giggle. I can't tell you how many times I have listened to that episode. Love you guys! Keep up the awesome work!
I have been listening my way through all of the podcasts on the channel the last few weeks and have thoroughly been enjoying them. Keep up the great work 👍
Great to hear! …great to listen?
Rae throwing shade at Clants Closet genuinely kept him up that night. He no doubt bought the most random shit on eBay for the next week.
I have the two disc unrated cut of the movie, so here are some tidbits:
An alternate opening showing Brad Pitt on a mission taking out some terrorists in a nighttime, snowy setting.
In addition to the alternate ending with the Smiths in a Latin American country with their kid, there was another that was scripted, never shot, that had them casually walking away from a dinner date on a boat with another couple they met. The boat blows up, but the lead up had the Smiths laughing, talking like it was a normal evening.
Adam Brody would've had more screen time if they left in scenes of his character telling a pretty, single woman the events of the movie.
There were quite a bit more extended and alternate scenes also on the DVD. It really lends itself to showing the creative, unfocused madness of Doug Liman. Still, it is among my favorite movies, and it also gave me my final words that I'll say when the moment comes:
"The new curtains are hideous."
I'm going to guess that the Rotten Tomatoes audience score was low due to the real world backlash of the Pitt/Aniston breakup and perceived infidelity. I remember Chelsea Handler eviscerating Brangelina on her show...such a crazy time.
i think i'm starting to understand why it's been ten years and we still don't have the sequel to edge of tomorrow that everyone involved wants to happen
I had no idea edge of tomorrow was Liman, I had to check. The result of the check annoyed me
He's made another movie with Tom Cruise and is prepping to do another.
I hope they remake the film with Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith playing both Mr & Mrs
Yay! I’m starting to see these back up in my feed. I love these podcasts and movie/franchise breakdowns.
As an ADHDer, Doug shares a lot of qualities with me
I was surprised but enlightened by the story behind Mr and Mrs Smith because I honestly thought that Liman and Chaos Walking was going to be the topic for the pod 😳
Love your guys work as always.
Paris from NZ
i was just thinking last night about how i needed another episode of this, haha. so glad its here :):)
People who praise Doug Liman sound like victims of abuse, downplaying the crazy shit while saying “it wasn’t all bad all the time”
I don't always agree with yall on everything, but this is probably my favorite movie podcast out there. Thanks for the great content to get me through another shift!
Our pleasure!
Completely random comment, but I enjoyed the little speaking flub at 1:15:32 of "if you put yourself in a minedees nineset" 😂
Ima word smith
1:15:28 I pray that we are all able to put ourselves into a mindties nineset whenever required.
I live there every day.
Feel like we're in the start of a new series; S#!t Show The Liman Chronicles
There’s enough material…
@@ItWasAShtShow this show reminds me of how many movies I have seen others have not
Great episode!
I haven’t laughed this consistently hard in a while and I love you guys so much.
I watched this movie probably when I was around 10 when it came out and that’s probably why I do like it so much cause it has good action and even though the adult humor wasn’t my thing obviously there was other broader jokes that I enjoyed. The sort of theme song, the tango one, was always something I loved listening to along with the actual theme song. So this is still one of my favorite action spy movies today. I can see the flaws but it’s just good fun and I’m all for it.
I knew there had to be fans of it growing up!
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a action classic. It’s ridiculous at times but the pacing was nice
Been waiting for a new episode!
The CW routinely wrote the actor's personal life and drama into the show see Sophia Bush x Chad Michael Murray, Nina Dobrev x Ian in Vampire Diaries, etc
Hooray, good way to wakeup to a new episode 🎉❤
I seriously LOVED this podcast 😂
Past tense?!
So glad to catch this episode today and thank you 3 for just talking about the behind the scene stuff as apose to the gossip that happen around that time in real life. I cant wait to hear more new episodes. Keep up the amazing work 🤘😊 p.s would you guys ever do another horror movie that was a sh*t show like maybe wes cravens cursed which became a whole different movie from the start of it to release or maybe one of the x-men movies like x3 that bret the rat ratner did lol or last suggestion fan4stic. Again thank you guys for the amazing work you all do you got a listener for life 👍👍😁
Glad you’re enjoying!
I leaning towards an X-men video series (because they were all kind of Sh*t Shows). And there will be more horror movies, but I’m keeping them for Halloween.
If this is Liman's style then it's a bit worrying he's directing the upcoming movie where Tom Cruise actually will go into Space.
Meh… oxygen?! Who needs it.
love this! where did you find the first few clips of the bts??
Take a look at the documentary The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes for fascinating insights that could be incorporated into a show about the troubled production of her final, unfinished film.
This stuff is fascinating. Especially the stuff about Doug Liman being an OG Nepo baby. (ugh I hate that term but it is somewhat topical...)
That’s because you’re so cool 😎
Finally caught a new episode 🎉
Thanks for reading my comment! I've never seen Kangaroo Jack but I love Crocodile Dundee.
1:14:19
Yay! A new Sh*tshow to start my day! Love you guys!
cannot WAIT for the edge of tomorrow episode , can you also do an OC episode!!! love the show thanks for all your hard work you three
Iran-Contra? That's a CIA family and the explanation for what's happened to the American cinema. The Military. Why every protagonist is an agent, a cop, a government rep or a criminal. So relatable.
The quote by Liman at 1:10:00 would come off way different under many different circumstances. If it was someone nice and attentive trying out new techniques and styles on their first major film, the quote would come off as nothing is a mistake if it works. But with Liman it is like any behavior (no matter who it affects) can be justified
I hope you watched the remake show. Is fucking amazing
I think that’s called Directile Dysfunction lol
He has made a lot of great movies he must be doing something right ?
His talent is not in question. It’s his professionalism.
Interesting listening to after the recent drama around the streaming release of Road House.
Right?!
This makes me like Doug Liman even more.
I worked on this movie and this video doesn't even scratch the surface of the madness.
OH! Please, do tell!
Oh PLEASE give us some examples, I'm dying to know now!!!
OMG please tell me you guys will someday do an episode on torque because that movie was a sh*t show and had ice cube lol. I mean remember the opening of two bikes are racing a past some steet signs that say cars suck while passing by them 🤣 its a great movie lol
Haha. Sadly, not a Sh*t Show.
1:15:30 - mineties nineset
I love this podcast!
Just letting you know. I have 85 podcasts in Q. You always skip the line to 1st. (Even pausing the current one)
Keep it up! Love the shit show
Aww! Glad you’re enjoying them so much.
My honest opinion of this movie... Great premise, fun introduction, but the end just fizzled. Mr. And Mrs. Smith along with In Time goes down as a movie that could have been good or even great.
My favorite part of the movie is when Brad Pitt finds out that Jolie brought fake parents to their wedding and when she finds out he was married before.
Liman sounds awful. What's weird is that his dad was pretty cool - made valuable contributions to the world.
What twists life takes.
Terrific appraisal of a decent film that made me decide that I wanted more art and a lot less violence. (Je suis wimp.)
Hello It Was A Sh*t Show great episode can't believe this man Doug Liman is literally an nuclear bomb to be set off, plus please hashtag cleanit be real anyway have great day everyone.
I'm with Ian on this one. I really enjoyed this movie and have a soft spot for it. Loved Brad Pitt in this.
Also when is Tony bancroft replacing klynt. He even sounds similar, it'll be an easy transition. Shrek is absolutely s tier.
Maybe I should ask Shrek to replace him…
Can you do Babble? The movie, not your podcast.
Hey!, where is James Corden?
This one was already in the can.
What about James Corden? What he do?
"Mr. & Mrs. Smith" is the coldest movie experience I've ever had. Colder than 'Quintet' times 'The Thing' to the power of 'Alive'.
Ever thought about doing a Sh*t Show Podcast about _The Island of Dr. Moreau_ from 1996 starring Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer? Or do you think the 2014 documentary _Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau_ already covers all the sh*t show-ish stuff there is to cover? To entice you, let me give you a little quote from Richard Stanley: _"I then made another strategic error. I met Val Kilmer."_
The documentary is really great, in my opinion. There's no narration, it's just people who were involved with the movie talking and telling their part and point of view. Extras, actors, producers, New Line Cinema founder Robert Shaye, and of course Richard Stanley, small Indie film director from London, the movie's script writer and director. Until he got fired halfway through and was replaced with John Frankenheimer, but Richard's journey does not end there. There are some amazing little stories and quotes in the documentary.
Absolutely. Been on the list since day one.
@@ItWasAShtShow Excellent. _he said while finger-tenting._
Doug "Little Mushroom" Liman
Ever sense they mentioned edge of tomorrow I’m really interested to see that particular shit show episode
It’s a doozy…
Yall gotta get on camera now. I gotta see this plushie.
It's funny, i think i kinda lost all memory of this movie due to how meh the final fight scene is. like, that's all i remembered until you reminded me of some of the better parts.
Will there a be a sh!t show of the twilight zone movie?
Certainly. Probably a video though.
My favorite wine is Port Manteau, its ridonkulous.
Ah, I see you have found out about my crows from the Mergers & Acquisitions Team. Looks like they're slacking, no one is supposed to know about the crows... tsk tsk tsk...
About two minutes into the ghost busters video I noticed comments were turned off for a good reason. Myself included,I wonder how many unsubscribes that video alone was responsible for?
Thanks you for commenting and watching two videos (at least)! Your continued engagement helps the channel reach a greater audience.
I was absolutely on team Clint, until his Shrek opinions came to light - I assume he will be replaced shortly.....
1:15:32 ‘Mindies nine-set’
You wish you came up with it!
Clint
Once again, an episode better than the film
What do you mean?! Jumper is an awesome movie.
Wow, that white man comment at the beginning was something. Imagine the insane backlash if she’d replaced that with “black” instead.
Do you need a safe space?
I'm wondering, can you guys provide more video to the podcasts you add to youtube? Instead of just the static display screen?
At least do video of yourselves, and maybe add a context screen for things you reference if able after or during? Ian clearly already has a script - so why not?
It would just be more enjoyable for an audience on RUclips and other video platforms.
And you guys are awesome!
We get this request a lot. Unfortunately that requires so much extra work and this isn’t a full time gig. Plus we edit the hell out of these that it might be a completely different vibe.
@@ItWasAShtShow idk. Try it once. Maybe it will be one of your most popular vids and bring in the $$$. Best of luck to you all.
You watch a single show? Thats cute. Liman.
Apparently they're redoing this with Donald Glover. Could be interesting?
You mean DongLover?
Doug Liman is the reason we have 'the o.c' he also made 'jumper' anything bad u say isn't valid imo, he is a god to me
Lol, people are given movies to direct based on their gender and skin colour, as well.
Shrek is.... Not that good.
C L I N T
Despite his infamous reputation, Liman has got one of the strongest filmography amongst the filmmakers of his generation.
Swingers, Go, Bourne Identity, then this movie.
This isn't about Jada and Will, is it ?!
:)
IT ISN’T?!?!
I love listening until I hear someone bring race up
Do you need a trigger warning?
@@ItWasAShtShow I’m sure I’m the only person who wants to hear a review without someone bringing up race. I agree that the director has rich privilege but race has nothing to do with it. It’s funny how a show that critiques can’t handle a little of it dished back 🙃
We’ll gladly take all the constructive criticism, but I don’t think you know what a critique is. You’re simply irrationally angry about a valid point, hence the trigger.

Ugh.... this is why podcasts of goofy people are unlistenable.
Bye!
Idk how I even got subbed here but I unsubbed right around the 2 minute mark. Gbye
Bye!
This was a sh*t show. Just sounds like Entertainment journalists trashing on a director. Maybe some films are good (not this one) because the director looks at what they've got and decides it's not good enough. Maybe the fact that they stopped the director changing things is why this film is sub-par. It's funny how when the film is good it was "because it was a team effort" but when it's less good, like this film, it was because of the director, despite all the instances mentioned where the director was overruled by the studio. If you want generic unoriginal movies, like what we mostly have now, then get reliable and boring committee friendly directors. I get that picky directors are annoying, but many of the best films are by picky directors. Not Liman - I think he's no higher than B list - but at least he's not just dialing it in. Also, the constant "hey look at me I know something about making films" flexing is cringe.
To borrow that same overly misused term, your word salad of a comment is cringe.
@@ItWasAShtShow Is "world salad" overused, or "cringe"? Probably both, right? Sorry I don't like everything you do, or do you only want fawning comments? I think your scripted videos are very good, I just found the podcast a bit smug and self-satisfied. I can skip it though; I don't expect to like everything, and it's not like I have my own videos/podcasts to be able to talk from a knowledgeable position. In overused terms, you do you.
The material’s interesting and kinda funny. Just not the people delivering it🫠 Terrible podcast
But by leaving this comment, you increase our standings in the YT algorithm. Well done.
