Ive had 1 of my engel fridges shit a thermostat. Its happens. Ive been running the crx80 in my canopy for 7 years been around aus up cape gibb etc. Never a drama. I do like the new layout in these but
Thanks for the update. We were planning on replacing our fridge soon after seeing your previous review, thought we’d go with that newer Dometic as ours is running too often & not really happy with that. Good we aren’t in any hurry, (actually looked at one on the weekend, just to compare) will be interested in seeing what you try next & how you rate it. They don’t seem to make anything like they use to. I’d be cranky if I’d paid someone to install a fridge & it carks it so early on!
Hey mate, glad you saw it before buying. Based off the comments it seems like a common fault sadly. I may try the Engal upright next, unless I go back to chest. Watch this space
Hi Dylan, I’ve always had Bushman fridges. Chest one is 25 years old & still running, I have an 85L up-right in the ute & love. Recently removed the Thretford 3 way fridge from the Van & replaced with a 12V 190L Bushman. Best thing I did as the board they put in the 3 way fridge just fail where we replaced it 3 times over 12 months. Hence why I replaced it with Bushman. Yes they may be a bit higher in cost but as they say - you pay for what you get!!
Have you gone anywhere hot with the bushman's? Not hearing good things with then handling hot humid environments. My kings made in the same factory woth the same compressor failed in QLD Summer.
I love your channel. I own a CRX 115 which has died but I’m looking at getting a NRX 115 still. I own a campervan, & it has to slot into the same spot as the old one. There are bad eggs in every carton as my dad always said lol
Mate it was an incredible fridge up until this point. But a few people commented saying this seems to be a common fault with Dometic. Thanks for the comment and watching mate 👍 👌
Thanks for watching and supporting 🙏 Yep I'm big on going back and updating the information I've put out there, I just hope none of the people I told to buy it have the same issue.
We have a 79 series like yours with a tray and were wondering about an ARB Elements as well. When towing we have our canopy off to save a bit of weight (also with a horse float I can see the horses through the rear window) but would still like to have a fridge in the back. Looking at the price you could probably blow up a Kings every 6 months and still be ahead. I've seen people with an old Engel or Dometic with a cover on them that look like they are years old in a tray and still seem to be working.
Hello Julie, Thanks for the comment, all ways good to know we have another horsey person following the channel. Yeah ARB unfortunately ask for a hell of a lot for their products, hens why I run nothing ARB. The big difference I see would be the reflective skin and insulation. The ARB is built to be in direct sunlight and still keep your food cold, the others not. I just don't want to go back to chest fridge 😩 and the ARB is not a big fridge.
We were at a saddle fitting. My husband parked our white 79 next to Ash and asked about the Darche 180. Didn't realise until later we follow your channel.
I had a bushmans stand up fridge. Couldnt handle the temps up here in the gulf and cape york. Would only get down to 6-8 degrees during the day then run perfect at night time. Went back to engel chest fridge
Yeah that's my concern with them, I had the kings with the same compressor. It also struggled in Queensland summer, couldn't get it below 13 degrees. Thanks for your thoughts mate. I really appreciate it 😊
We sold the Bushman's when I worked at TJM, never had one come back. I might reach out to them, see if they want to let me try one out. Thanks for watching and commenting mate 👍 👌
I'll put up a short on it 😊 Bushman's I feel like I've tested all ready by having the kings that was made in the same factory with the same compressor. The kings legally had to have 27 things different about it, but the compressor wasn't one of them. Thinking maybe engle upright? But man it's ugly 😕
Very interesting review. I’ve had 2 dometic and had to take it to the shop for repairs some time ago. Mind you they are the hinge lid models. I have an Engel in the back of my Toyota and it works fine. What’s happened to workmanship these days??
Dometic are big on trying to make you get them repaired. Not for this little black duck, once something breaks I get money back and try something else. I feel workman ship died during covid, no one cares about customer satisfaction anymore. Thanks for the comment and watching mate, appreciate the support 👍 👌
P.S when we started our OZLAPN RUclips channel 6 years ago we put an Aldi 40 ltr Stirling fridge in the back of our Cruiser (yes still remember lining up at 8:30am). It hasn't missed a beat. Any ideas how I can convince Jo to upgrade?? lol
No way if it's still going don't upgrade!! I've gone through 3 fridges in 1.5 years. The new ones are built rubbish. Thanks for watching and the support mate.
As always a great honest review, shout out to Ash (who we miss seeing) recon Ash as a Director camera person, not to mention quality control, OH&S supervisor. Enabled the best out come for this review. Keep up the good work, possible swap roles ??? We are sure Ash has something camping to review. Cheers guys keep being honest, having fun Graham and Jo @OZLAPN
I'll pass it onto Ash, she likes getting nice messages. Unfortunately she's not a fan of being on camera and it shows, early on in the channel she use to do heaps of videos but got ripped apart in the comments so that stopped her wanting to.
Hey Davey, I recommend the Hardkorr Inverter, I have the 3000w it's cheap but has a safety switch, and automatic changeover switch. I still recommend it even though they won't sponsor the channel 😅🤣 I did a review video on it earlier this year.
Mate I have had my Dometic 110l upright for 4 years, been on some horrendous roads, the cape in the back of a 79, so rough as guts, plus I live in Cairns so it is baking in the canopy everyday. Has not missed a beat, you must treat your gear rough, mine looks nothing like yours, no rust, no tape peeling off, the tape on the back is where the spray the insulation foam in. I highly recommend Dometic, have mates who have Bushmans and complain about theirs not getting cold enough. I also own a CFX 75L old school twin compartment, that has never missed a beat either. So if you get another brand and that shits itself what you going to do then? Go get a new one on warranty and if that one has the same issue then fair enough. If mine shits itself now I will still buy a new Dometic. Did I see in one of your episodes you had your fridge strapped to your back seat, no wonder its broken
Hey mate, thank for your thoughts. I think you need to calm down a bit, your acting like someone who works for dometic. As you can see from the comments this seems to be a common fault with their fridges sadly. No never had it strapped to seats, we sit it on the back seat use the front passenger chair and a pillow to wedge it in place. If you watch my first video it came delivered with the tape all ready coming off, it's just gotten much worse due to the humidity. Sorry mate will not be getting another one after getting the comments I have
Thanks for the support mate ☺️ Hahaha it's a secret 🙊 Na it's at Hervey Bay I'll put the link below www.hipcamp.com/en-AU/land/queensland-private-tropical-oasis-nelhrlwy?adults=1&children=0&srid=28ba41e5-8bbe-4962-b65e-96821c494d96
Thats not rust on copper pipe its corrosion . If the solder flux residues aren't removed, it will cause corrosion. flux residues are acidic and if they aren't cleaned properly, the residues will lead to the corrosion from moisture in the air. Clean off corrosion with water and repaint or silicon spray for protection

Was a terrific fridge up until this happened. A few people have commented it happens aloy sadly. Still don't know what else to get. Think Engal 🤔
Commenting for the algorithm for you. I have no idea about fridges 😆but I love your honesty Dylan 🙏
Hahahah, thanks for the support 🙏
Thanks for the honest review.
Your welcome mate! All ways honest with you guys! No one can afford to throw money away.
Thanks for the support Rex 🙏 🙌
Thanks for your honest opinion on the dometic fridge. I think I’d be a bit shitty to if my fridge to ruined my food and spoil my time away.
Food can be replaced, no biggy.
I just feel guilty for all the people that bought it after watching my first video, hopefully mine is a one off 😬
Thanks for the update. @ yes mate - FNQ and we did the Gibb River last year when we did the lap. All worked well mate.
Good Video and thanks for your Honest review update.
That's what I'm here for mate 👍 😀
Thanks for commenting and supporting the channel 🙏
Have a look at a Bushman 35-52Ltr portable fridge.
I've only heard good things about bushman's
I love your channel.

My dometic fridge did the same thing, started freezing everything. I had to get a new thermostat put in
You would think for the price they wouldn't break so quickly. Handy to know its happened to others.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 😀
Great review mate! Love your honesty about not recommending it due to it breaking👍 can’t recommend it if it’s broken haha
Thanks for watching and supporting 🙏
Yep I'm big on going back and updating the information I've put out there, I just hope none of the people I told to buy it have the same issue.

We are going to suggest a Bushmans fridge as well.
I would be interested to see if it holds up better then the kings I had that was made in the same factory.

Try an australian made norcoast fridge
I have to check them out, ever heard of them. Had no idea there was Australian made fridges
@@Off.Track4x4 I think EVAKOOL are still made in QLD ?
Try a bushman fridge, very happy with their product and back up service, both as an owner of one and a retailer selling them.
We sold the Bushman's when I worked at TJM, never had one come back. I might reach out to them, see if they want to let me try one out.

Mate, Do a follow up on how you go with either repair / replacement / refund.
I like the upright's for convenience, what about the Bushman ?
I'll put up a short on it 😊

Hey Dylan, where is or what is the name of your Hip Camp?
Thanks
Thanks for the support mate ☺️

It's a common problem with all Dometic fridges...... thermistors pack it in. They should offer everyone free replacements because it's a known fault!
Under customer law we ether get replacement or refund. Repair is not an option as it leaves you with out your fridge.

If the solder flux residues aren't removed, it will cause corrosion. flux residues are acidic and if they aren't cleaned properly, the residues will lead to the corrosion from moisture in the air. Probably same problem with printed circuit boards in thermostat .
What do you do for a job? That's some great knowledge 👌
Should it happen on its own? Or bad design?
