  • Hey All and welcome to The Bearded Woodworker. Thank you for stopping by. In this episode I make a bathroom medicine cabinet out of old used fencing boards. These boards were literally out on a fences for years weathering away. After cutting the split ends off and ripping the edges, I yielded some pretty good looking boards.
    The backing is a piece of 1/4" plywood, glued nailed and screwed in place which made a great support for the screws that is holding it snugly in place in some 2"x4"s wall studs. I used Sherwin Williams's water based marine grade clear coat to protect it in the bathroom environment.
    If you have any questions about this build, please feel fee to leave them below down in the comments. Thanks for watching!!

    I love it! I built one very similar out of reclaimed leftover fence pickets as well.

    Great idea to use a square as a nailing guide. No pencil marks to sand off.

      Same here I have been meticulously penciling in the alignment, such a simple technique yet immensely time saving. And removes those few times when your throwing something together and eyeball it and miss one or two of em.

    Glad I came across your channel. I am about to replace 436 fence boards. Wanted to do something with them. Thanks for the inspiration.

    I like the patina on the wood, I need to keep an eye out for a couple of projects I have. I want to make a few simple boxes to hold hardware. Would look cool if it was in the same style... Nice work Gary...

      Thanks, Andrew! Some little hardware boxes would look great in that old fencing. I think I want to make some wine boxes with the left overs, myself.

    Why don’t you put the clear coat on it before you attach all the pieces?

    • @TheBeardedWoodworker
      @TheBeardedWoodworker  2 года назад +2

      Well it would definitely be easier to clear coat the wood before putting it all together. But because I used wood glue and I wanted a good bond, the clear coat would actually prevent that. The glue penetrates the wood for a strong bond. Very good question, though.
