I'm sure you've thought of this but could you mount the soft top from the back of the Samurai towards the front to give yourself more room to clip it in properly at the back? Shame that stud ripped out of it. Also good on ya for fixing someone else's tyre. I also carry stuff like that, even if people wonder why the back of my car looks like a hardware store/mechanic's bay.
Honestly I hadn't thought of that, but now that you mention it, I may try that next time (it's gonna have to come off several times during the restoration). In the video after that one I ended up un-snapping the 2 front buttons above the windshield. That gave me an extra inch or two in the back. The back of my jeep is like a mobile electrical warehouse lol, but I usually have what I need to help people right then and there. I work on an old motorhome parked over at my parents house alot, so I rarely take all the tool out, I think I would feel naked if I did lol. Hey, thank you for watching, have a great Sunday!
Seems my comments with a link to parts appears to been deleted. Your missing two metal chanels for hinge part on side bars (were rear bar attaches to form hinge), loose allows top to be put on, and snaps set. the hinge allows bar to be pulled to tighten top. Seach under Samurai soft top rear bow hinge and should find it.
Oh wow, yeah that woulda helped lol. I wonder why they removed your comment. Today I unsnapped the front 2 snaps and that let the whole thing shift back an inch or 2. I also flipped the mounts (little black plastic pieces where I put the bolts through to attach the bow) and that got rid of some of the wrinkles in the windows. It'll be in tomorrow's video. I still have 2 zippers that just don't wanna work right. Also, when I drove it today it sounds like a horn in the back on the driver's side lol, around 45-50 (I assume, I still have the guages out), some air is doing something weird, I painted the dash today, should have that all back together tomorrow. Thank you for watching.
Is that like a computer program where you can design your own stuff? I've been going back and forth with the seller. First they tried to give me a $30 refund for the soft top. I said how am I supposed to fix the zippers without taking it to a seamstress and having them sew in new ones? Then they said $60 refund and that's where we're at. I'd still like a replacement with working zippers but that won't help the fitment issue with the front buttons over the windshield. We'll see. Hey, thank you for watching!
@@CTMadModz Hmmm, so that would have to be done at the very beginning. I'll have to take this thing off a few times while I fix various things so next time I install it I'll definitely try that!
Carb still needs to be adjusted it's super easy 😅 passenger side of the carb. You could even adjust the throttle cable right next to the set screws and that would help with the idle.
Yeah I'll have to play around with it. After it warms up it idles great usually. I think there's something goofy with my choke? Did you see where the coolant lines go through it, it's like free floating? I don't think it should be like that. I think that was in the 2nd or 3rd video.
@@mora103 yeah I changed it to a 180°, it had a 195° in it. I think the water pump is good cuz before I had the new thermostat I put it back together without one and I could see the water flowing in the radiator cap hole.
I think you’re learning how hard of a fight everything is when you buy the cheap eBay/Amazon parts from India. Yeah the Japan parts are way more expensive but they are made way better, all the India stuff is junk and will break almost as soon as you install it. 🤗
Yup!, wait till the next video. More parts showed up yesterday, I just uploaded the video I had ordered window regulators, handles, cranks, etc and it was all plastic wrapped together. Like together together lol. I didn't even realize the handles were in there till the end of the video, at which point you can see how cheap it all looks, and they didn't give me the door handle bezel with the lock built in like it showed in the pic. I'll prob pick and choose what I end up using. If I can get the dash all back together I'll prob try to swap out that combo switch on the steering column today, we'll see if being cheap bites me in the ass on that one lol. I can always clean the original one but I'd like to have the new white lettering.
i have had two tops before,,i buy those Best Top brand, ive never had those zip off side window before. all has been easy to install. im pissed just watching how hard it was, good grief
Cant wait for the combination switch install video! I just got a Samurai last month and I'm planning on installing mine tomorrow. Did you get one of the OEM ones that are around $100 or one of the ebay ones that are around $20?
I'll probably be doing that tomorrow too. No I think mine was only like $27. When I got the Samurai (last friday) the headlights and turn signals weren't working. I played around with the combo switch and got them somewhat working. I was gonna take it all apart and clean it but when I saw how cheap they were I figured I would just replace it, then it'll have new white writing. We'll see if that was a mistake right?
@@FixLife119 I'm in a similar boat and I also went with the cheapo one. My turn signals are hit or miss if they work and they're super hard to press down like I'm going to break a lever. My windshield wipers also aren't working so hopefully its just that the switch is bad. I've checked fuses and I'm hoping I wont have to replace the motor but dropping the windshield down and checking the motor will be the next step. Have fun with the repair! Cant wait for that video, I've got the notifications on!
@@bowen11 Ya hopefully it's just a bad combo switch causing all that. There's 2 plugs for the combo switch. I would assume one is for the wiper side. If you can find a schematic I bet there's 12v coming in on a wire, then feeding out several different wires for the different speeds. I was just thinking you could take a jumper wire and jump from +12v to some of those other wires that energize the wiper motor. You know, do it all right there at the plug that feeds from the combo switch to the wiper motors. But, hopefully replacing it will take care of all that... good luck!
@@CTMadModz I watched your video last night about swapping the combo switch. Mine may be easier since I already have the instrument cluster trim deal removed. Sorry, I'm not sure what the brand was. I would never recommend the one I used anyways, 2 of the zippers just didn't want to work, one of the snap buttons broke, and I had fitment issues. I got it on Ebay, I think it was $213 with the metal bow included. Honestly I wouldn't buy the bow again after seeing it. I would just make my own for $10-$15 in 1/2" EMT conduit and connectors. It supposed to be an extra metal flap the bar connect to. It help the bar lock in place and tighten the top up.

@12:30 when I had my soft top I found that if I slid the hardened front edge from the side into the groove it stayed in the groove better.
Mine went in like a hotdog in a hallway, should it be a tight fit? Seriously the groove is twice the size of the plastic strip.
