- SCP 049 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as The Plague Doctor.
SCP 173 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as The Sculpture.
SCP-049 is a humanoid entity which bears the appearance of a plague doctor. While SCP-049 appears to be wearing the thick robes and the ceramic mask indicative of that profession, the garments instead seem to have grown out of SCP-049's body over time. SCP 049 will become hostile with individuals it sees as being affected by the Pestilence, often having to be restrained should it encounter such. If left unchecked, SCP049 will generally attempt to kill any such individual.
SCP-173 is constructed from concrete and rebar with traces of Krylon brand spray paint. SCP173 is animate and extremely hostile. The object cannot move while within a direct line of sight. Line of sight must not be broken at any time with SCP-173. Personnel assigned to enter container are instructed to alert one another before blinking. Object is reported to attack by snapping the neck at the base of the skull, or by strangulation.

I love that Scp 049 is one of the few dangerous SCP, that is still human. He can get injured, or die through normal causes and has to interact with other people like a normal person and make compromizes to get to his goals, because of it. SCPs like the shy guy, Able, or the reptile may be cool, because of their immortality, but in a world were everything is unkillable, it doesn't even feel special anymore. However, if there is a creature, that is fighting for its life, because there is a real threat of dying, it makes the whole thing more relatable and real to me.
You know, your comment makes me curious. What would happen if the plague doctor touched Mr 682? Would it kill 682 or even have any affects on him.
Scp-049 is the definition of an anti hero. He never kills people for fun. He genuinely thinks he is doing good

@@youraveragerobloxkid yea, scientists who have a positive outlook on life and worldview were considered neutral by 049, whereas scientists or people who had troubles in their life, stress etc were considered infected with the "pestilence" while it's not officially confirmed it is heavily implied, but there could also be other factors for what make 049 want to kill or "cure" you once he considered that you were infected with it
This video is a good demonstration of what makes scp 049 my favourite.
He's a man of science, dedicated to research, doesn't tolerate disrespect, loves the medical field, intelligent, multilingual, patient, only does what he thinks is right, and would be a great guy to become friends with due to his ability for intellectual conversation about even the most morbid topics.

Sadly he seems to lack the knowledge to truly understand the pestilence he is trying to cure and is therefore unable to actually explain it, if it is truly real.
After all, the Doctor seems to be some kind of paradox. He truly urges to save life, yet his very touch brings death, so maybe even his pestilence does not truly exist, but is just an idea he is unable forget about to make him kill more people in the name of science.
One of the reasons why the Foundation doesn't give him new humans as test subjects: he is like "I am so close!" all the time. They're just thinking "Yeah, yeah of course. You said that [REDACTED] times now"

Man, the moment the Plague Doctor opened his eyes, I legit let out a sigh of relief, and then again a second time when The Foundation busted in and essentially rescued him.......I absolutely love these original SCP stories.

He was fine with it before when it was just stories, but as people have started to monetize work with the sculpture in it, people were worried about legal trouble

Fun fact; to keep 173 from moving without risking blinking, you probably could just look with one eye while keeping the other shut, then switch when that one dries out. You'll always have the SCP in sight so it won't kill you.

I wonder how the 049 would treat an apprentice? Like, what if he was allowed to continue his research, but he had to teach a junior researcher while he did it? 049 doesn't talk about the pestilence because he assumes the foundation already knows about it, so I would be curious how he would explain it to someone that he assumes knows nothing about it at all.

The Plague doctor seems to have had a history with the Possessive Mask (SCP-035), whom he encountered centuries ago. As for the Pestilence that supposedly afflicts humanity that he often talks about, one highly plausible theory is it could be the entity called "It", that resides within every human being like a parasite, which led the Foundation 05 council to attempt the extermination of humanity in one epic story.

I can relate totally to all of this. It is hard to explain this to people who love to socialise, I lose friends because i will avoid going out. I also struggle to keep up with tasks, people think you are lazy. Thank you for helping me and hopefully others to understand how difficult this can be to live with each day.

The Pestilence is Petulance. That is the secret. Once one is deemed to be Petulant by the doctor, they are suddenly also deemed infected with the pestilence. It fits all too well.
Personally I figured the 'Pestilence' is the influence exerted by the 'IT' in the human psychosphere (4352)

Every time theres a mass release/escape of contained scp instances all I picture is the scene from cabin in the woods when the elevators open and then a half second later the hallway that was filled with guards is immediately mauled by every monster/ghost/whatever that was kept there....
Cabin in the woods is still one of my favorite horror (or black comedies depending on your point of view) movies for how meta it was

This is the only time I can really remember seeing actual blood on dead characters. I'm probably wrong but it just seemed to pop out to me and I don't feel like I've really noticed any until now.
Also I know this channel doesn't focus on the "horror" aspect of most scps with your style of story telling and Information giving but I can't help but miss it a little bit for the plague doctor since he'd always had been one of my favorites

He is resistant to injury, but not immune. 173 is completely capable of snapping his neck and killing him. Even 682 took a lot of damage from 173.

The feeling of having scps like 173 around makes me feel sooooo uneasy, even 1 nanosecond of miscalculated blinking from the guards at that site and the whole world as we know it could end
I love SCP 049. I do wish he was more "inevitably" powerful, though. I don't want him to be afraid of SCP 173 because it'll kill him but because it'll take days to regenerate from a broken neck and that'd be a dreadful inconvenience for such a devoted man of science. And I'd like to think that his doctor's bag, just like his mask and clothes, is actually a product/extension of his body. I mean, why else would the SCP Foundation let him keep such a dangerously versatile item? It makes more sense that they can't deny him the bag because he'll just pull another one out from under his cloak. Envision this: SCP 049 is a Euclid class anomaly in the hands of the Foundation only because they're cordial with him and meet him halfway on demands for test subjects -- when disrespected and abused, he becomes Keter and will inevitably get out and get even.

Because his bag isn't dangerous by itself and can not be used as weapon. Foundation confiscated his stick, however, which is kept in regular storage.

I wish they would take some of that durability from the run-of-the-mill horror movie SCPs and give it to ones like SCP 049 that have unique character and personality. The best sentient SCPs are the ones whose motivations are nuanced enough that they could believably work with or against the Foundation in different situations.

Euclid doesn't equal danger level it's moreso how hard they are to contain. As 173 can be quantum locked and 049 is a man of reason, they're easy to contain unlike 682 or 076 who don't understand reason and can't be immobilized without great effort and are therefore keter
Wow, this may not have had amazing animation, but it's still amazing, humanizing the doctor and making him a man who will live for a long time and just tries to do his research to help humanity

Here's what the Foundation should do: gather a bunch of plastic, a couple small wheels, and a human eye, and stick them all into the Clockworks on Fine or Very Fine. With any luck they'll be able to create new Eye Pods. Perhaps one that can sit and stare at 173 without needing or wanting to leave.
Until he gets upset and stops playing the game, SCP is a shitty set of stories with no internal rules or logic no one gives a fuck all people give a shit about is their own head cannon which they make up on a whim so really any ideas that you come up with might as well be true

This makes no sense, 049 can tank bullets without feeling them but can get dazed by a hit to the head from a rifle or stopped by cattle prod
Well being berated by bullets on your skin who is as hard as metal at some spots that sometimes don't even hit you versus getting hit In the soft spot of the back of your head as hard as possible by highly trained soilders
The mannequin is able to resist bullets, but a taser is able to keep it down.
SCP stories usually aren't written by the author of the original article, so they probably just bent the rules a bit for the sake of the story

Bullets work by penetrating target. SCP049 has a “coat” so thick he can tank bullets.
