  • I figured it was time to dive into the CNC manufacturing world but I wasn't impressed with the machines for sale in the hobby price range. So, I designed and started building my own machine. The next video will be installing all the electronics, software, and getting it cutting. Subscribe for more!

30 year, time served, ASME 9 and Lloyds coded welder here - you're doing about as well as anyone with an "over the counter" flux core mig welder. If you can hit it with a hammer and it stays together, it's good enough and I'll give you props for vigorous use of the the square and tape. Just one thing - cover your arms up. Besides the very high chance of getting a big ball of spatter in your gloves, UV burns are not fun, and they won't be fun in 30 years either.

0:55 Recipe for perfect RUclips welds:
    1) Setup camera as you have done, so that weld bead is not in shot, and complete your crappy welds.
    2) Grind welds without changing camera postion.
    3) Off camera cover welds with bog, sand, and paint.
    4) Casually pan camera across welds on finished machine, but DO NOT MENTION WHAT YOU DID!
    5) Wait for glowing comments about your skills! ;o)
I love your machine, welds and all. Thanks for the video.

You know what they (AVE) say: A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't. :) The only thing that matters in welding is that the pieces are stuck together well.

love that the welds aren't perfect, maybe it will give other people with less experience the confidence to have a go aswell

Everybody has to start somewhere. It was such a thrill when I first figured out how to weld. The welds were not pretty. If I had opened a welding/fabrication shop, it would have been named chicken shit welding. But I got better. Doing something ok-ish as a first attempt is 8,000 times better than throwing criticisms from the lazy boy chair.

Building your own is many times easier then you may actually think. Not saying this is the case for a router, but so much you buy for way too much... is. I hope people see this more often (though I get it... we're lazy). :) Awesome project!

As long as the welds hold, that's all that matters for a DIY project.

My welding motto is: As long as its holding tight and solid it's a good weld. Who gives a shvxt about aesthetic. Functionality First.

You may or may not know how to weld, but you surely know how to entertain.
    Glad to find this channel.

LOLOLOL! I was right in the middle of being a reactionary twat, writing a welding roast comment, when you interrupted your video with a comment about how people were gonna be bellends about your welding. Thanks for the huge laugh.

Good effort! Was thinking it looked pretty awesome, until i saw the paint over the weld splatter, so have to downgrade my rating a tiny bit. Next time, get that “pro look”, by grinding the welds back with an angle grinder or one of those mini handheld belt sanders (to get in the tight spots). It won’t look like you rushed to get it out or couldn’t be arsed… hehe. I had a buddy who’s mate painted the bottom of his car without washing it first - it had mud packed in the wheel arch. We were like wtf as we watched him spray it…

What a waste. I mean you're not going to discuss anything it's just a video sped up of you just putting together stuff. Not wasting anymore time on this video

Me being me and being anal about overkill I would probably drill holes and bolt everything together first to make absolutely certain that everything was square and lined up, and then I would just leave the bolts in place as I welded it(holding the welding nozzle(or stick for that matter) like you would a pen adds an amazing amount of control to the welding...)

In my experience a grinder and paint helped me be the welder I am not! Just a tip tho I upgraded to a machine not much more expensive with gas and I got 5% better was hoping for 20%

i suppose this is a cnc 3d milling or milling-router hybrid (for steel i suppose) rather than a common cnc 2d router for cutting planks. you could have printed molds to make the parts with uhpgc concrete with unidirectional fiber reinforcement rather than waste money and metal
