      My grandma was born and raised in wales. She was a welsh-woman to the bone. She came here to the states when she was 19 to further her education and get her teaching degree.
      After retirement, she raised me, her granddaughter, from my age of 2 - 17 years old. She was warm, loving, and dedicated to my education. Her accent was very heavy and she often, as she entered her elder years, spoke English with welsh words mixed in. As a toddler I understood her completely, although many other people meeting her for the first time couldn’t lol.
      I am in my 60’s now, and my grandmother has long since passed away. However, I often hear the welsh language spoken, and get a Deja VU type experience as some of the words must trigger a memory of words spoken to me as a young girl.
      One thing I know for sure……WELSH IS HARD!!

    this is a 22 year old girl, from a very sheltered life in provincial England. Think about being swept up by the "royal family" to be bride to a strange man, 13 years her senior. And let's be real... Charles wasn't exactly what you would call a hunk of burnin' love!! No Prince Charming, to be sure,(with horse faced mistress ,Camilla, waiting in the wings)!! Lovely Diana did her duty for England. I always felt she was a simple, sweet, beautiful young woman who was forced into an impossible relationship. She deserved more happiness in life than she was ever allowed to have. Normally, I am not a sentimental sap, but I still tear up when I think of her untimely demise.

      But this woman is so enchanting and beautiful.
      Makes one think of a Helen of Troy or a Cleopatra, except infinitley more Real, Vulnerable, a vision to behold.
      A Gods devine aesthetic vision; an infinite light from Wthin her that illuminates outwardly and beyond;
      Every tiny gesture, every slight vocal inflection and casual glance like an enchantment.
      Her Beauty and Grace and Spirit is a Prophecy.

      +wendy schwimmer She was a good woman and feisty, but let's be honest, sheltered, she had never been. She had been a lady before she married. Her nee was Spencer, a close relation to Winston Churchill's family. Hardly sheltered at all. I read somewhere that during a hotted discussion between her and the Duke of Edinburgh, he threatened to ask the Queen to strip her of the royal title, she was unfazed at all and supposedly replied to him that "Philip, mine is older than yours", allegedly referring to her original title, and insinuating that the Duke is only a duke because he married to the Queen, and his background is from a much lesser European Royal family whose country is much smaller and weaker and poorer and the family had been uprooted during the civil revolution.

      Hi Luka. You are right, and much better informed on the subject than I. I found your information most interesting. Admittedly, I have avoided reading/watching any so called
      "biography" offered up by alleged inner circle. Therefore, my comments were based on a purely emotional reaction to her plight. I am GLAD to hear she put Philip in his place! I just adored her because she seemed like such a kind and genuine young woman. Thank you so much for the bit of English history. Cheers!

    • @MandyJMaddison
      @MandyJMaddison 4 года назад +14

      Sandra Kavanagh,
      For the daughter of an Earl, she was seriously UNDER-accomplished.
      She had, like many girls whose parent can afford it, dance lessons which included ballet and tap.
      She DID play the piano quite well, as her maternal grandmother, Lady Fermoy, was a concert pianist.
      She could also swim well
      However, her behaviour at school was so unco-operative, that she failed her exams. She was then sent to a Swiss Finishing School, but dropped out. Her mother tried to get her to do a catering course, but she dropped out of that. She worked as an unqualified nursery assistant. (Being the daughter of an Earl does have advantages; otherwise she would have worked as a checkout-chickie.)
      Her entire reading matter was Barbara Cartland novels in which the girl heroine marries a prince. She set her arget at Prince Charles, which was most unfortunate for HIM.
      Her ne real talent was turning on an apparently guileless charm, which sucked people in.
      In sucked in Prince Charles.
      People in nursing homes loved her.
      And male employees and officers from Wellington Barracks were only to delighted to drop their trousers for her.

    • @Vesnicie
      @Vesnicie 4 года назад +31

      @@MandyJMaddison you may not put any stock by it, but the talent she did have to radiate warmth and to reach out in an honest way to others, that is something that cannot be taught. No one was arguing she was the sharpest tack. She didn't need to be in her role. What she was was the only positive ambassador for the Royal Family at a time when they were all perceived as odd, distanced and completely out of touch.

    • @MandyJMaddison
      @MandyJMaddison 4 года назад +8

      Snuggles,
      I do put store by it.
      Diana had charm, and natural grace.
      She was typical of the charming Narcissist. They throw you breakfast at you, along with the plate, and then walk out the door with little birdies flying to eat out of their hands, and the driver of the limousine just ready and waiting to drop his trousers.
      Diana, beyond doubt, had the power to make people feel better, just by walking through a room.
      Diana had charisma, an element which the Royal Family is singularly lacking.
      At the time, Charles was being continually lampooned in the press about the ridiculous things he said about environmental sustainability, his advocacy of recycling, saving forests, eating ones greens, and taking a holistic approach to health.....
      .. What a funny, eccentric, out-of-touch man he was!
      (He even recycles his own poo-poo as fertiliser!)

      Of wood and ash,
      THAT was the general impression that this highly attention-seeking and Narcissistic person tried to achieve....... oh, sooo sweet and innocent.....

      I think that what you have said here is absolutely correct.
      The Royal Family have always maintained a formality about their physical interaction with the public.. The Queen is physically remote to the extent that she has only very rarely taken the arm of a person to climb stairs with no rails..e.g. at the Houses of Parliament. and she is 94.
      Formal handshakes is what they do, unless they are Edward, and he avoids them if possible.
      Diana was completely spontaneous in that regard, grew up in a family where as a toddler she was used to being lugged around by older sisters (never her mother) and was accustomed to handling other people's children in a familiar way.
      When Diana touched a child or a needy person, it was always an affectionate touch, rather than a formal one.
      Kate is more reserved than Diana, but Sophie Wessex is not. She simply doesn't have the amazing charisma of Diana that made every interaction with her seem to be surrounded by rainbow lights and falling stars.
      There is a lovely clip of Sophie describing the dress that she is wearing to an elderly blind woman and putting the woman's hand on her chest so she can feel the folds in the material.

      Diana was a b*tch.
      Diana said spiteful, cruel nasty things to people every day of her life.
      Some people have a store of nice sayings that they bring out when people need comfort.
      Diana was the opposite. She had a store of spiteful, witty little things that she tagged onto the end of discussions, and muttered in a low voice.
      You don't believe me?
      Just Google Princess Diana and LOOK at her face.
      In formal photos she looks posed, but in informal pics, you can see the real person

      * pic published by Readers Digest with Charles, wearing beige coloured dress.
      *Pic published by business insider wearing balck ballgown and the tiara she refused to return to her father.(so his wife, the Countess Spencer, could not wear it)

    What is disturbing is that she knew her duty and she followed it perfectly : She gave 2 male heirs (misogynist's ideal) she gave the future genetic pool much needed beauty, humanity and grace, she was charismatic which is exactly how she had to be in a public position like a Princess, she was beautiful and appealing making the monarchy interesting, she was a loving and devoted mother to her children and in the end because she divorced Charles they take away her title and she has to bow to her own children because of the mess that Charles and Camilla did and to end up getting killed I mean, wow.

    • @w021353s

      and that shows why the monarchy is shit, and should be done away with. After Elizabeth dies, Charles and Camilla should slink off into the sunset, and Kate and Will should go into the world doing good and having lots of fun with all the royal treasures. Really UK, do you want to continue this ridiculous travesty?? After what they did to Diana, I don't know how anyone in the UK would want to continue funding this dynasty.

      The Queen is Sovereign of 15 Commonwealth realms in addition to the UK. She is also Head of the Commonwealth itself, a voluntary association of 54 independent countries. The British empire is large and the monarchy has been around for over a thousand years with a rich history. It will continue to stand. As if any one person can change that fact. William will make a wonderful King and bring stability just as his grandmother has done. As will his children and descendants after him....

    I too loved Princess Diana, as a teenager I had photo's of her on my wall, I collected books, magazines, anything I could get my hands on. I waited for hours in the cold to get a glimpse of her when she & Charles visited my city in '83, I looked up to her & know there is no one else ever going to be like her or take her place. This is why I don't understand people comparing Catherine to her. I truly believe Catherine loves William and he loves her, and that's all Diana would have wanted for Will

      Her great-grandmother did that at a time when a lot of Britain’s aristocrats were hurting for money to maintain their estates, and American daughters and granddaughters of the nouveau riche wanted to be accepted into the old-money upper classes. So the men got money and the women got status. This was true of Winston Churchill’s mother, too. There were many such marriages back then. Just like the one depicted on Downtown Abbey, Lord and Lady Grantham.
