Today i came across a Korean War M1 with a 1983 type 1 liner. My wife went back and bought it for $125 which i think considering the age of the liner is too high. Of course she didnt know that and neither did the antique store guy, And when I was there all I could tell was it was all post war, so it's alright. I can be on the lookout for a Korean War liner, and it's my first US helmet so I'm stoked. First M1 as a Christmas present from the wife is a win no matter how you cut it.
Congrats on your first M1 Helmet. Sounds like you have a really caring wife. My wife is the same way. We are a good team and enjoy doing things for each other. Keep on collecting and having fun. This is a great hobby.

I have a Westinghouse Micarta liner that was made in 1952, the sweat band is from 1972 and has MP painted on it. The helmet itself was made in 1952 and used from Korea all the way inro the 1980s.
a lot of information. thanks for your research. wish this was around when I bought my 1st helmet. described as a WW2, but had a post war liner. shell was mid WW2.
Acquired m1 today off my friend swapped for British para helmet, strange one though ,it’s a front seam shell , which has bee over painted olive green, can’t make out stamp, the liners a beautiful brown patterned one with stamp us 72 with what looks like Vietnam era webbing green. Must admit with front seem I’m mega happy.
great video. the molds left over are the actual molds used to press the liner shells. i dont know if any liner shells were left over, never heard that one before. the only thing id add is that 1964 and later marmac liners have a large black number inkstamped on the webbing after the nomenclature. firestone has a yellow number inkstamped on the inside skirt somewhere, and westinhouse has a white inkstamp number somewhere on the inside skirt.
I have a Vietnam liner from July 1967. Sadly it didn’t come with a steel pot Edit: I just found out mine is a paratrooper M1C just like at 13:32! Exactly like that. I just learned that by watching your video thx!
Recently got a Westinghouse / Capac liner with the number 51 on it. I think it was converted from a M1C liner to a regular liner because of two holes on the sides of the liner next to the chinstrap loops.
Those particular mould in marks are from the company, Marmac who made liners 64- 69 , to date the liner look at the liner webbing, on the right side , the printed details are there.... 🙂🙂 Happy hunting
My issued helmet liner from USAF 78 has a mark in circle M on left, C in top and P on right. A pet peeve of mine is war movies and actors have just liner
I have a post 1955 M1 liner with CAPAC and Westinghouse markings. Sadly it was reworked by a reanactor and given WW2 stlye OD3 webbing but it still has a 0D7 neck strap. Its sweatbandbis from 1979. The liner came with a WW2 era rear seam McCord helmet with Vietnam era paint and a name. Sadly the helmet is missing its neck strap but it cam with a Vietnam cover made in 1965. Also the M1 helmets stamp is 914A, so when would have the M1 helmet been made.
To really firm up your knowledge, which is pretty good , you need to purchase ' Post WW2 Helmets by Marc Reynosa, which is a really reliable, properly referenced publication...so, all the little things your not clear on, are right there ! As you were!
Thanks for watching and commenting. I actually did purchase that book not long after making this video. It is a very good book for sure. Lots of good info.
Some helmet liners can fit a little more snug in some helmets than others. Sometimes there can be just a little "play" which makes it easier to remove the liner if needed.
Those suspensions are easy to replace with those late pattern liner shells as the are slip ons and not riveted in like the old 64 pattern liner shells.
Hi, I have an M1 helmet produced sometime in or before 1944 (Heat stamp is faded but it has a front seam). Unfortunately, the helmet did not come with a liner, I'm curious to know if you could help me look for a WW2 liner within the price range of 10-30$ if not, please feel free to still link a site where I could purchase one if you can, thanks in advance! (Side question, I found a post WW2 liner for 5 dollars on Ebay and I'm curious to know if a post war liner would fit it, thanks in advance once again!)
Hey, thanks for reaching out. Honestly, I would check ebay and see if you could find something in your price range. Most militaria has gone up big time in price. You may be able to find a Ww2 liner in average condition for your price range but if you are wanting a really good example then it can get really pricey. But keep on looking and I'm sure that you will find a nice liner for your helmet.
Years ago Westinghouse built huge high=voltage transformers which used a lot of Micarta to insulate the internal coils (I wound coils for a while, Micarta is still used today) To me it always seemed to be the same as liner material. Don't think Micarta is a company name, just the material used for liners and transformers.
I have an Original WWII M1 helmet with the liner but the leather chinstrap was disintegrated and I'm looking to find an original one. How can you tell if its original one and also if you can make a video for one?
Early World War 2 chinstrap buckles were green. By 1944, they were either steel or black. Check on ebay for another one. Originals can be expensive to replace.
I have a liner that has the Firestone mark. And it has the numbers 63, probably meaning 1963. I know you have another video about metal shells, so i will post my question there.
@@JonBoyMilitaria I cant tell. The cross is small and hard to see but if feels like there is a little ribg at the bottom of the cross. If it helps, it is a steinburg 1973 liner.

With the date of 1972 in the liner, it's unlikely it was worn in Vietnam. The helmet itself may have been worn with a different liner that had to be replaced with the liner that it has now after the war.
