I’m impressed by Duncan’s deep understanding of the homeless and drug problem. Most people who I hear talking about it seem to be very confused about what the actual issues are. The part about how even if there is housing, there are too many rules and hoops to jump through. Even without addictions and mental health issues it’s an intimidating and difficult system to navigate, just to have a roof over your head. Same with jobs. There might be fast food jobs and it might seem impressive that they’re paying $20/hr(which isn’t even that much anymore) but it still remains that those kinds of jobs aren’t for everybody. So for someone who needs money but has no work experience or skills, even a seemingly simple beginner’s type of employment might not be a great fit for them. And it’s very common for service industry jobs to limit the available hours for each employee. 15 hrs/week doesn’t pay the rent. These jobs are designed for kids who are still in school and living with their parents and not actually support themselves. So for someone who is trying to support themselves or to get off the street, it’s way more complicated than “getting a job” as many people like to say. The combination of things being both expensive and complicated is the real killer, because even if they have a little bit of money to work with, anything less than expert managing of that money is going to end in disaster as well.

He's never been pushy about anyone else getting sober or not. I just take it as he gets to decide what he exposes himself to, and you get the same dignity. I believe gambling addiction as maybe the most destructive addiction. My dad struggled with that. But I get to decide if I want to watch the commercial, skip the commercial, or just switch to another video.

My family and close friends are worried all the time with my alcohol consumption, I've tried quitting, went months and weeks without it in the past years. The amount of alcohol advertisement, and tv/movies always showing it makes it so f'n difficult when you try to quit.

Yeah we have little tent cities even here in Halifax, Canada. They been here for so long since COVID that just this year the government built them free group housing (it's like a room full of beds and dividers) but some of the tent people didn't wanna leave their communities or just didn't like the prison vibe so they didn't use them and then the government banned tenting in the parks they were in

Talking about how AI is displacing jobs. This isn’t a new problem. My dad was a union guy who when I was young annoyed the shit out of me preaching about grocery stores replacing workers with self check out. I always thought he was just annoying but now I’m older and he’s gone. I think he was right. To this day I refuse to use self check out. I always go to a lane with a person. It takes a lot longer but unfortunatly this is not going to be around long. I think it’s bill burr who has a bit on it. “I payed you 100% of the money so you make 100% of my sandwich” side note I’m happy Steve o is sober (and alive) he was always my favorite of the jackass crew but I always was worried about him the most. I’m so happy he cleaned up, got sober, love the pod. Love him to death and Duncan. Two greats having a great conversation
