- Frank McCourt exploded onto the international literary stage with his searing, heartbreaking, and Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes, and his revelations continued in 'Tis and Teacher Man.
Frank is joined by poet, photographer, human rights activist, and good friend Rose Styron.
He the deepest and most charming story teller. At 78, close to death, he never skipped a beat.
Wonderful to hear of his involvement in Haiti.
At all his ages, he was a gem.
It's hard to believe that this wonderful man died less than one month after this was recorded. It's now 2015 and, strange as it seems, as I never met him, I miss him. I wish he had more time, for it seemed he had so many more stories to tell. This modern-day seanchai will live forever in my heart. Buy his books, listen to his stories and. whenever you're in a pub, raise a glass to his memory.
"May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be at your back
May the sun shine warmth upon upon your land
May the rain fall soft upon you face until we meet again
And may god hold you in the palm of his hand."
***** Mr. McCurt died in 2009.
Margie Deeb Yes, this interview was taped in June 20, 2009. He died July 19,2009. I believe I stated that in my comment that he died less than or perhaps one month after this was taped. It was, as far as we know, his last public appearance.
Did that today... After visiting his school house. Raised a pint in his first pub in limerick. A lovely journey.
Mike Cordasco I agree 1000%, I to believe he had many more stories to share, and he did have such a short time to tell us more wonderful stories. I have all his books and I will keep them always. Please share this great story teller with our children, they to need to know about this great Author.
I miss him too. I watch this and read his books over and over.
The best interview of Frank McCourt. I have been watching this video over and over...

an inspiration in all sense of the word.
The Irish have a wonderful tradition of storytelling
That's right
It's an Irish attribute in the sense that McCourt relates about the seanachie.
My father had a native Irish speaking mother and he was a great story teller
I he died at age 92.
I have one is his transcripts still
I'm going to publish it
In some form.
Audio book complete with accent maybe.
Awww this is just so wonderful 👏👏👏👏👏
RIP Mr. Frank McCourt xoxo
Thank you Frank!
Today Commemorates Frank McCourt's 90th Birthday
Frank McCourt is 1 of my very favorite Authors. As I see him here he looks very ill. Does anyone know how this much beloved Author passed? And thanks to all who downloaded as much on this man as they could, Thank you! !
He died of melanoma in 2009. To further add to the sadness, I just learned that brother Michael passed in 2015 from cancer and, youngest brother, Alphie, died in his sleep on July 3, 2017. Ironically, brother Malachy, published his 3rd memoir in January 2017, entitled, "Death Need Not Be Fatal". If you have not read any of Malachy's books, I strongly recommend that you do. His writing style is very different from Frank's but he is immensely interesting and entertaining. A joy to read, for lack of a better term. Alphie's memoir, "A Long Stone's Throw" also a joy to read. Though I will miss these great men, I am delighted that they immortalized their memories by contributing great pieces of literature before they passed. Sadly, brother Mike was an orator, not a writer. If you want to see him at his best, purchase "The McCourt's of Limerick" and "The McCourt's of New York" and you will see brother Mike at his best.
BTW, "The McCourt's of Limerick" and "The McCourt's of New York are DVD documentaries directed by Conor McCourt, Malachy's son. Buy them. They're outstanding!
The DVDs mentioned in Mike C's reply is available on RUclips here: ruclips.net/video/vQE0ttW9vT4/видео.html
