This is wonderful. I loved spending time with my grandmother listening to her talk about life in Longford and Donegal. She migrated to America with my grandfather. Settlement in queens nyc and my whole family lives in nyc. Irish families tend to be big. I enjoyed growing up with all my cousins. Now my son has his cousin's to grow up with!
25 years ago a friend gave me a copy of Angelas Ashes for my birthday. I read it the same night and was blown away. I’ve bought numerous copies since then. I went to Limerick (before Google maps) with a friend and tried to take it all in. Getting off the train and realizing the station was the same as when Angela left for NYC. Walking through the park trying to imagine what it looked like in the 1930’s. At one point I had to tie my shoelace and when I looked up again, I was standing right in front of the old Leamys school for boys. And the Vincent de Pauls society close by. It was one of the best days of my life.
RIP Malachy. Just heard the 3 hour tribute on WBAI.
I listened to Angelas ashes on audible years ago. Narrator had wonderful Irish accent. Just found Tis in second hand shop. So far excellent. This was wonderful. Now I have faces to the story. What an amazing family. Thank you ☺️
It was Frank McCourt himself who was the narrator.
lo. Love you from Pittsburgh ve
Recall Malachy walking into my college office with his daughter on parent's day. For the next hour he regaled me with rhymes and limericks and he made the day light up. Several years later he would provide a cover blurb for my memoir. A gracious fellow.
I'm 74. I was born in Limerick city. There was indeed great poverty. I was lucky I had a great mother. My father was a heart invalid. We never lacked food or decent beds but we were very aware of the horrible poverty in Limerick city. Like Frank I turned against the church at a young age. I couldn't equate the Catholic church with it's treatment of the poor. Delighted to see their throttle hold on Irish society destroyed.
Thank you Conor! Beautifully done ✔
God bless from Newfoundland Canada 🇨🇦❤💖💕
Beautiful people ❤
Merci merci merci. I am GLUED to my tv screen, watching the four brothers. Listening. I am transfixed… these faces, expressions, words, laughters and tears are stuck in my brain forever. Tremendous piece of work.❤

Same
amen malachy your right about the catholics and christians, i went to grade school at catholic school in milwaukee wisconsin in 1973, it was no different in america.
my two older brothers gave the priest and nuns a good time before our parents removed us from mother of perpetual help school.
A family of story tellers, and performers ❤🙏🙏🙏👏👏👏
Don't forget liars
Liars? Do tell...what proof do you have to feel confident about leveling that kind of accusation?
i met and talked with malachy mccourt in milwaukee in 2006 at milwaukees irish fest. a great man a poet and storyteller, a great new york irishman. we had a great talk. i have all of his books as well as his older brother frank. great men of truth.in history. we always hear the italians stories from new york, but it is refreshing to hear the reality of the irish american immigrant.
Conner McCourt, what a talent you have. I hope you are a successful moviemakers. You owe it to the world!
I finished reading Angela's Ashes a few weeks ago, watched the movie and ordered Tis! Absolutely love this
Have you read “ Teacher Man?” That’s wonderful as well!
@@shantavakian4309 I absolutely will read that one too. I was so very intrigued with his humor.
I know right!!! TOUCHING and. HEROIC LOVE
The bringing together Margaret Mary and Angela was so heart wrenching, yet beautifully done.😢
Growing up in Chicago with my Irish and Italian friends, being raised in poverty being abandoned at age 11, having my first 3 course meal and bed by age 26, and never knowing love until age 32 brings out the best and worst of me sometimes. Dying twice and brought back to life ushers in a sober feeling. How Irish roots and traditions can span generations still confuses me.
I have been captivated by the story of this family. I have purchased nearly all their books and also the movie of Angela's Ashes.
Hi carol Nagy it is not so long ago that we lived in total filth just like in limerick dublin tenements reeked of hunger and death savage hardship ten to fithteen children in squalor slums so so bad fever nests I could go on and on I’m old enough to remember please read dublin tenement life by Kevin c kearns there are still survivors to tell there stories get the book pictures galore to see in this book you won’t put it down greetings from Dublin ☘️☘️☘️
It breaks your heart

Thank you for uploading these glorious videos. I adore both Frank and Malachy’s books; such poetic prose! Their writings have made such a heartfelt and humorous impression on my heart. I, one day, would like capture my own family’s epic mythology. Thank you again!

Coner McCourt, This was wonderful! I have to know the name of that beautiful song at the end after the ashes of Angela & Margret’s are scattered. And who is the singer?
I would have loved to have been one of Frank’s students.
Me too!!!
Seems like brothers looks very much like Mam but Frankie was Dad's spitting image...
Love this💗💞❤

kerry Lord i believe he is malachy's son
Yes malachy's son. He wrote a biography called Death Need not be Fatal. Great pics in it.
Love the mcCourts Frank have both his books Angela's ashes and Tis fabulous storyteller so sad Frank and malachy still really upset about their dad whom they loved with his stories such a hard life wow it's a wonder they survived they were starving because their dad didn't send the money back from England awful life they all had but they did extremely well for themselves good on them
We ate bread and butter 🧈 and butter and bread 🍞.
And Maluchy follows up with how American people are picky
About what type of Bread 🥪🍞 they want.
I was chewed out about that as a kid
