      RoisinT2 there are so many brand loyalists out there, it’s almost disgusting. When I was a kid, I knew a guy who owned a ‘68 Shelby GT500 (it may have been a KR, but that escapes me thirty years later). It had had a full frame off, concours-correct restoration, and scored (I believe) 98 or 99 points out of 100 at an SCCA show in California. Big time stuff for a big time car, right? At a local all-makes car show here in Calgary in about 1990, I overheard two (obviously) camaro guys laughing and joking at “what a piece of shit” it was. I put them straight in short order, but they were so deluded by their brand loyalty, they were too dumb to comprehend another car being better in every way.

      I have a group of about 40 cars and trucks for my “winning the big lottery” list, pretty much all of them American cars from early ‘30s to early ‘90’s. Lots of Mustangs, a Galaxie, Model A or B, or a Fairlane or Mercury muscle car here and there, even a big ‘70s Lincoln luxury barge. Some old Jeeps and AMC’s like Concords or Hornets, Javelins and AMX, a Gladiator or Honcho pickup. Even a first generation Camaro and second gen Corvette. I can’t stand Italian or German cars, though. They do next to nothing for me. Maybe a DeTomaso Pantera, but it’s half-American...

    I disagree with his remark about old Fords being hard to start when cold. I grew up in northern New York and every Ford I ever owned started right up, no matter how cold it was, and they didn't sit in a garage either. In fact, I am presently driving a '65 FE powered Galaxie and it starts as quick as my sons new car with fuel injection. Just do like the owners manual says, push the gas to the floor to set the choke and fast idle, then turn the car and vavoom!

    • @fredc8346
      @fredc8346 5 лет назад +6

      Pretty much. Just about every time I hear someone say something is hard to start it is actually an engine with carb or other work needed. Of course a lot of the older carbureted cars need a little warming up but they should at least start easily. Many times people make comments like that to cover for a car not being like the new ones. Most people that have been around hot rods know things are not going to work perfectly or like the new cars so no real reason to make excuses. That starter sure needs some work though.

    • @mindeloman
      @mindeloman 4 года назад +4

      I completely agree about old cars starting no problem in the cold.....when they're in stock form. This car more than likely has something other than a factory carb. You can see him working the manual choke. I was not aware of manual chokes being on these cars. I don't mind being proven wrong on that, and in fact i welcome the insight. Plus that car has a much more aggressive came grind than a factory car. That can lend itself to pronged cold starts. Also, not sure if they pushed it out to start but the bowls could've been dry. Takes cranking to fill them.

    When it first started, and your wife was filming it at idle, the exhaust looks like it was coming out from under the car, not out of the exhaust tips. Must be an optical illusion. You have a really nice car! I have a 1969 Sportsroof with a 351 Boss Block stroked to a 427 from Ford Racing. Sad but it’s getting cheaper these days to buy built blocks ( although Ford Racing prices show they are proud of their engines, lol). Between the cost of the parts and trying to find a decent machine shop, it seems quicker too. Would love to see a burn out, but at least we got to hear it run. Thanks!
