I'm very happy they finally used the historical argument as no one seems to use it. i.e. How Ussher's Chronology mandates that the whole of the ancient world was built by 8 guys in 100 years. It's stupid, and it was the first argument that convinced me when I was 5 years old.
In regards to the first caller, and his population estimations, he couldn't be more wrong. First, the Earth is billions of years old, but the species of man is about 200,000. Secondly, there have been several cataclysms that almost wiped out our species. All I can say is, Shave and sterilize. Repeat if necessary. Lol.
Sure doesn't seem that way to me. Reminds me of a nazi in 1945, just waiting for the "final victory". Won't accept the truth when it's staring him in the face. ESPECIALLY when it's staring him in the face....
That last guy doesn't know what "dialogue" generally means. It is people with different perspectives discussing an issue. Thus, an "open dialogue" MEANS that the atheist will attack the religious position, and vice versa. That is exactly what happens on the show. He's just butthurt because the Christian side never makes a convincing argument, so the atheists never say, "Yeah, you're right - I never considered that before".
About caller Sam: Dating volcanic rock is tricky and can easily give a bad date if you don't get it from a deep enough source. It will only date the current eruption IF the rock was fully turned into Magma during the eruption. Surface rocks are commonly erupted last and might have survived the last eruption event and thus would give a much older date. This is commonly known and thus is only missed if your very inexperienced OR you are willing to make a mistake.
The first caller reminds me of a caught fish; flapping around desperately, with absolutely no chance of making anything approaching progress. Has anyone else noticed that RUclips clips posted by theists often have the comments disabled? They're scared of dissension, that their dwindling flock might read them and start to question their own beliefs once they've been confronted with reasoned argument and common sense. I think mankind is developing beyond the need for religion. Thankfully!
To the first caller: 'The Wizard of Oz' is a book that mentions a tornado. We can clearly see that tornados are around today. Therefore the land of Oz exists
@TimothyStuartRiches Maybe for you, but I watch it for the acceptance. Where I'm at, there is a church on every street, no scientific books at the library except "Proof evolution is wrong", and 5 religious clubs at school. It's a show for me to sit back, watch, and feel not like the only one.
Much like someone coined the phrase "the 'Look at the Trees Argument'" I think there should be some oblique reference to this recurring theme in so many calls like Sam's: *a 4-year old obstinately insisting to both its parents that Santa Claus is real*
@mamaschristmasbunny Please tell me where to find these news stories. The only thing that pops up is something form Kansas that has nothing to do with what you're saying.

How can he say a method is accurate up to a certain amount of time if all dating methods are inaccurate? That’s like saying every ruler is inaccurate, and only reliable up to a hundred feet.
@54NT14G0 dude.. i don't think it's a debate show.. it's more of a call in show to have a civil discussion( until matt dillanhunty just get's tired and loses it) about people's beliefs.. thats why they usually ask what callers belief in as soon as they answer the phone.
@XamericanX Ok. I understand that they shouldn't perfect all the time. And you can be nervous while doing a TV show. But those guys do these shows in a regular basis. Not only that, but blog, radio show, mails, etc. The guy was throwing pretty much all standard creationist crap that he was reading from a creationist website. A radiometric wrong dating should have a standard reply after years answering the same thing. Instead they kept saying "no it is not", like if this is an answer.
@getalife67 the bible also says, in the book of exodus, chapter 21: 20 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.

@luke8670 I think the caller is referring to Isaiah 40:22, where it mentions the 'circle' of the earth, which is a flat shape, not a sphere as we know the earth is, it's a misquote. He seems desperate to prove the bible has revealed science, in fact it runs contrary to known science. I agree that it would be hard to see the curvature of the earth from great heights, shame Matt wasn't on the show for that question...
But the truly funny thing about the kid talking about the Mount Etna rock is that he says that carbon dating showed that it was 21,000 year old but its actual age is 25,000,000 years. The kid thinks the Earth was created 6,000 years ago... in conflict with his own data on the rock's actual age! I'm surprised Jenn or Russel didn't catch that.
@AntitheistPOV that is my point - people who suggest we would lose these in a world without religion, as if they are contingent on a faith-based worldview, are being ridiculous. However, because these ideas have been historically associated with religion it is necessary to explain to the religious that we are not 'borrowing' christian values - as some apologists would like to claim.
I'm curious if this guy knows about the disasters that hit the world. Flood, plague, fire, asteroids, famine, war, and all those other happy little shit.

If you have food for 2M people, and only have a population of 1M, then the population will double very quickly. We have the number of people on this planet today not because people breed at a certain rate, we have a number of people on this planet because our FOOD SUPPLY has increased at a certain rate.
