Loki isn’t preventing the multiversal war, he’s just giving the multiverse a chance to thrive while the TVA monitors and prunes dangerous Kang Variants. I’m guessing it’ll be the TVA that brings together the New Avenger or any other Avengers teams to fight the Council of Kangs. There’s no season 3, this is the end of Lokis story, but still leaves it open for him to return.

It’ll most likely be Loki who recruits the Avengers since they first teamed up to stop him. I’m hoping it’s the OG cast since Loki can pull individuals from different timelines. Maybe he recruits Thor first and Thor tells him what happened after Endgame.
Also, they are preventing war by pruning Kang variants that are dangerous to the timeline.
Now, did Loki erase the TVA’s memories? At least the main 6 in that Loom Room? They didn’t necessarily say.
Maybe we’ll see Kang recruit his own Avengers to fight against Loki in Secret Wars, unless that rumor about Kang being out and Doom being in is true.
The only person who knows what’s happening next is the God of Stories, Kevin Feige.

To me, the peak of acting was achieved by Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Avengers Endgame. From depicting the trauma of failing to prevent a genocide to the encounter with his mom and the massive relief when he realized he was still worthy, the range was massive and he pulled it off perfectly.

I believe HWR when he said that he was tired. He was banking on Loki taking the throne and continuing the old ways. He was so sure there is only 2 options, but Loki found a 3rd one, thus breaking the loop and ensuring the survival and freedom of the multiverse.

I love this ending even though it's so bittersweet. Loki's Glorious Purpose has finally has arrived with Loki realizing he can replace the branch-killing Loom, and therefore the Sacred Timeline, with something better: himself. Loki takes He Who Remains place at the End of Time but Loki also becomes the God of Stories according to the MCU wiki and most interpretations. If he is the God of Stories for the MCU then the MCU would be changing the meaning of the God of Stories from the comics but they have changed big things before.
I also love how the new natural Loom is in the shape of Yggdrasil. When Loki locks Mobius and Sylvie out and tearfully says goodbye to them, he says the same last words he said to Odin right before falling off the Bifrost Bridge and seemingly dying: “I could have done it, father. For you! For all of us!”.
Loki's purpose is a glorious one, but the burden is completely heavy, where he is completely alone, unable to be with his loved ones ever again. Still Loki gets watch over them from countless timelines on a throne at the end of the world. No subjects to rule over, no family, no friends. Just him. His god attire isn't fancy, no gold trimmings, as it emphasizes the "burden" he places on himself.
Yggdrasil, also known as the Tree of the World or the World's Tree, is a concept used by the Asgardians to describe the cosmic nebula, with each branch or root representing one of the Nine Realms but this new Yggdrasil is not just for the Nine Realms but for the entire multiverse.

  • @jasoncaldwell5627
    @jasoncaldwell5627 7 месяцев назад +14

He truly was "burdened with glorious purpose".
As to character development, remember that he spent centuries at the TVA- probably even before episode six.

Holden, there is also a newer version of Loki that was revealed earlier this year, Avenger Prime Loki. Essentially, Loki was transported to the God Quarry after attempting to kill himself by flying into the sun, but instead, survived and now maintains the flow of time and space in the multiverse from his Avengers Tower in the God Quarry. Essentially, Avenger Prime Loki is the strongest version of him, and he has also defeated Mephisto and Supreme Doom (and his army of Dr Dooms). He also assembled a multiversal Avengers team. This version of Loki would be ideal for the future of the Multiverse Saga, as this is leading to Kang Dynasty (Council of Kang) and Secret Wars (Dr Doom).

Loki chronologically takes place before the other multiversal movies. It makes sense, we watched the multiverse be created in Loki and now as a result the Kang variants will come out and will start the multiversal war.

I love the line "It's more burden than purpose..." which just highlights Loki's position now..... it's so suprising how much Loki's character has changed from Avengers... now that he's been given truly great purpose he's really taken it on full-on.
With the announcement of Secret Wars being made down the line, I can see how this might tie-in with that. I feel like a bad set of circumstances will play out where Loki will lose his grip on the timeli9nes and this feeds into the Multiversal Secret Wars which go on, since Loki is now literally at the centre of it all now.
This is just my theory on what might happen in future.
But yeh this was such an awesome season and hope we see these writiers back again for future MCU projects.... :)

Also Holden, you made a face at one point during the episode and I think you recognized something! Right before Loki exist the TVA to destroy the loom, he says to Sylvie and Mobius, "for you, for all of us" that is a straight reference from Thor 1 when Loki says it to Odin right before Loki drops to his "death" also cool thing, that was improvised by Tom Hiddleston...awesome stuff!

Also like somebody pointed out in a different video from like a week ago, this Loki is A LOT older now. Remember he spent centuries going back to learn everything about the time stuff from OB and maybe a couple more years fighting with Sylvie with the occasional chat with He Who Remains. So this is far from the 2012 Loki, sure he started as one but not anymore.

The tree is Yggsdrasil - the World Tree - which is part of Asgard and the 9 realms.
Ironically in Loki's first appearance in Marvel Comics he was trapped inside a tree as punishment for his misdeeds Not at the end of the story but at the beginning and he's released when a leaf falls from the tree and brushes Heimdall's eye causing him to cry - which is what was required to break the spell.
Loki as the god of stories makes a lot of sense. To quote Kratos "This has always been your story."

Loki had the most significant moment/character development in the MCU. That's saying something. We tend to be prisoners of the moment. Whatever is happening is always the biggest or the best, but this feels truly enormous. There's so many layers/callbacks that make this episode bittersweet. I just want to see Thor become aware of this version of Loki. The sun will shine on us again

Both final episodes of Loki are the sole reason we have (and continue to have) a multiverse to begin with. If Sylvie never killed He Who Remains we never would have a multiverse to begin with and if Loki didn't sacrifice himself to hold it al together then there would've been nobody to let us keep it that way.
Best MCU anything since Endgame. (imo it's even better, but don't tell the internet that.)

Tbh, I don't think this version of Loki is the god of stories for the sole reason that he isn't exactly changing everyone's stories, he's only there to maintain the multiverse. He can't leave the throne or else all the timelines die, it upsets him because it was the only way to save his friends.

  • @ctbhaley
    @ctbhaley 7 месяцев назад

Remember in season 1 He Who Remains (HWR) said they crossed over to the first time he was experiencing something when he gave Loki and Sylvie the choice. In this finale, Loki says "why don't you ever fight back" and that lets HWR know that Loki is reliving that moment and he asks "how long have you been at this?". HWR doesn't know how it will end, he only knows that without the sacred timeline his variants will start a war and his motivation is to be free from making all the decisions and the only way for him to do that is for Loki to kill Sylvie and take over for him. He knows he won't die and says "reincarnation baby" because he knows the loom will protect the timeline. Loki wins because he finds an alternate solution which is his sacrifice and the burden he chooses where he can watch over his friends for all time. Now for the fun part, speculation. We know that HWR is Kang. Did Disney+ just set up Kang's rival? Did Disney+ just set up a way to bring back/reunite the original Avengers to team up with the Young Avengers and the X-Men, and the Fantastic 4, and the Thunderbolts that will eventually culminate in an epic Endgame type finale? I am very excited to see where they're going to take it.

Hey, Holden and Jen! What an amazing finale! It was absolutely brilliant and deserving of an Emmy. Hiddleston, Wilson and Majors all gave shaded, subtle performances that were just magnificent! For all the disjointedness of Phases 4 and 5, these tightly-structured two seasons clearly are the starting point of the Multiverse Saga with Season 2 improving many of what seemed to be the failings of Season 1.
Most of this season is lifted from Al Ewing's "Loki, Agent of Asgard" comics which has Loki become the God of Stories. Ever since J. Michael Straczynski's run on "Thor" back in 2007, Loki became less a stock villain and more of a wild card character who ran the gamut from Chaotic Good to Chaotic Evil which is appropriate for the God of Mischief!
The references to actual Norse mythology were troweled on thickly! Loki tethering a Multiversal Yggdrasil was reminiscent of Odin's sacrifice of being hung from its branches for nine days and nights to acquire knowledge. Loki being bound to an eternal throne is reminiscent of his being chained to a rock in a cave where poisonous snake venom would drip into his eyes whenever his dutiful wife Sigyn was forced to empty the dish she used to collect it to ease his agony. He was subjected to this for murdering Thor's brother, Balder the Good, and his writhings were the mythological explanation for earthquakes.
The closing moments were tragic and majestic. The character development was insanely good! Loki always wanted a throne out of envy and spite but, when he finally ascends to his birthright, it's a gilded cage. Loki thirsted for absolute power but, when he finally seizes the reins of ultimate power, it is a selfless act of service to free the cosmos. Loki, in the MCU, played at being a malevolent god since the Asgardians were just durable, long-lived aliens but he truly apotheosizes as he mounts those stairs becoming a benevolent God with a capital 'G'.
There will be no Season 3 but he will definitely return for either "Kang Dynasty" or "Secret Wars". In Jonathan Hickman's multiversal reboot "Secret Wars", God-Emperor Victor von Doom rules Battleworld from his throne among Yggdrasil's roots with his police force of Thors, his counselor Stephen Strange and his consort Susan Richards. Interesting parallels, no?
    The three options were:
Option 1: Kill He Who Remains --> Loom meltdown --> fail-safe reset of Sacred Timeline which branches without TVA --> Multiversal War that dooms trillions until He Who Remains triumphs and re-establishes TVA --> Sacred Timeline maintained at the expense of Free Will
Option 2: Kill Sylvie --> TVA preserved with He Who Remains maintaining the Sacred Timeline at the expense of Free Will
Option 3: Replace the dead He Who Remains and the Loom with a Multiversal Yggdrasil thus bypassing the fail-safe reset effect of the Loom meltdown which would have restored He Who Remains to power. By tethering himself to the Multiversal Yggdrasil, Loki preserves Free Will and the TVA who now hunt Kang variants to prevent a Multiversal War.
    ODDS AND ENDS:
"Pumpkins" is a 19th-century epithet for something wonderful; an exclamation of exultation.
The 616 adjacent realm in Mobius' report was the Quantum Realm in "Quantumania" where Kang was defeated by the Pyms and Scott.
Ravonna might evade Alioth in that pyramid where she just might find a pruned variant of Kang known as Rama-Tut, his pharaoh persona!

Thanks for your reaction video. Loved the episode and plan to rewatch the series, i think it will hit differently knowing the ending.
Loki gives life to the branches, allowing all the timelines to live. But it's up to the TVA now to monitor the HWR variants and try to stop/prepare for possible war.
He's giving them a fighting chance and choice in what to do, rather than what HWR did which was guarantee that many die so few could live.
Interesting twist on the trolley problem.

I just love like the Loki wanted a Throne and always said he was burdened with a Glorious Purpose... And in the end he has got his throne and achieved the purpose. With a great cost to himself but with a great new world to his friends and the whole world. After awhile he was saying he just don't want to be alone (and remember Lady Sif from the first season, words hitting harder than a punch in a face) - and he had to sacrifice that, because of what he have heard from Mobius - it will always be a burden.
What a masterpiece. Standing ovation to the writers (and to all the team to show us the story).
And obviously thank you Holden for sharing your emotions with us :)

There’s an interesting theory that Loki is continuing a time loop that essentially already happened. Eventually a Kang wins the war and takes control of the TVA, wipes the memories then replaces Loki on the throne starting the loop again. Loki’s throne appeared to be in the remnants of Kang’s castle, but the rock was fragmented. Maybe Loki builds the castle in that realm we eventually saw He Who Remains in

I think what some people don't realize the WHY... why did Loki have that intense need to rule and be completely ok with killing people back in the Avengers 2012 movie... He was being influenced by that scepter (soul stone)... We all saw the effects it had on the group of Avengers when they were arguing more and more intensely about what to do with Loki, and then squabbling amongst themselves, only to have Hulk holding it without any of them realizing.
That scepter totally influenced him and infected his brain.
