This was her first solo single has a solo artist after the ending of Eurythmics. This song reaching the top 10 in UK and the top 40 in US (n.34 in july 1992). I remember the first time i hear this song was in with this video in tv channel in 2008, i remember to love her diva look and she give well the title of her debut album ''Diva''. It's a incredible ballad and a solid performance.
THIS. SONG. I think I’ve commented before that as a kid I was obsessed with Eurythmics, ever since a British kid gave me a vinyl single of Missionary Man. So when Annie decided to write and release her solo project, the album this is from entitled Diva, I was so excited. When she dropped it I was IN LOVE. This dark maternal energy flows from it in a way that is so special. Every song (including Walking On Broken Glass) is genius. And the video album she also made with Director Sophie Muller, most featuring just Annie in various moods and gorgeous Venice buildings and locations 🙌 … It was bold and almost shocking at the time for an image morphing changeling like Annie (her other incredible video album [yes people were making video albums long before Beyoncé] was for all the songs on Eurythmics Savage, in which she occupies multiple personae) to be seen without makeup, baring her soul and her beautiful oh-so-very-Scottish face. Those glacial aqua grey eyes! But when she begins to put on the makeup the DIVA arrives. The mark of a TRUE Diva is that just her voice, face and PRESENCE is enough to make any music video mesmerizing✨ Rolling Stone included this album on their list of essential releases of the 1990s. To quote their review: “These eleven songs are fiercely those of a sister doing things for herself. Three years after her last outing with Dave Stewart, her cohort in Eurythmics, Lennox voids any notion that he was her Svengali and she merely the MTV beauty with stunning pipes. Writing nearly all of Diva, she manages a whirlwind tour of mainstream R&B and retains her singular persona - an ice queen thirsting to be melted by love.” 🤍
If you plan to do some Christmas reactions in December, put Annie Lennox's "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" music video on your list. While we're on the topic, Mariah Carey's "O Holy Night" music video, and Whitney Houston's "Do You Hear What I Hear" live on The Tonight Show.
One of Annie’s best songs. She has done so many incredible songs with Eurythmics and on her own, but this is perhaps her best.
Possibly the best female voice of her generation
This is my favorite Annie Lennox song. "Why don't you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut?" I definitely understand with my Sagittarius spirit.
My favorite by her...Powerful. The lyrics...So Powerful.
Thanks for listening to my pick Empress...I knew you would be feeling it! This song def takes you there, Annie knows how to sing from the heart.
💯💯💯

This is one of my favorite songs from her. I relate this song to my relationships with my father and mother and my paternal grandmother.
Makes me cry every time. I adore your reactions ❤
excellent choice. She is pure talent.
Her voice is haunting, always a great performance even visually
Every video by Eurythmics and Annie is worth watching. Icons.
“You don’t know what I fear” at the very end gives me chills!!
You don't know what I FEEL. ;)
@@Dannyboy. Oh… I always thought it was fear… I stand corrected.
@@teralmiles I thought that way too. It sounds like it. And it makes sense either way too.
This was her first single release from her Debut solo album, Diva. Stellar!!! I love Annie Lennox!!! 🧡♥️🔥
I adore this song xx
First time I heard this song I was already enthralled with her voice due to Walking on Broken Glass. Nothing has changed.

(No shade on Lemonade btw, that video album is life)
Beautiful song.
"Don't Ask Me Why" and this song "Why" are my absolute favorites of Annie's
She hasn't done a song yet that isn't playlist worthy! ❤ Thanks for the reaction.
Masterpiece ❤
Little Bird!!! -Annie
This is her biggest solohit. I think she also won Best Female Video at the VMAS against Madonna in 1992 for this.
Nobody gives a “Why?” its “wow” like Annie! I was waiting for 10 nails ‘cause you had that “Empress’s 10 nail bop” goin’ on!
BIG CLASSIC / LEGENDARY / THE VOICE / BIG RESPECT / OLD SCHOOL REPRESENT / 80'S 90'S FLAVA / F*CK NEW SKOOL
Oh yea.. I forgot about this song. It's another great one from them for sure. It seems like she really enjoyed making those videos.

You should investigate the Eurythmics back catalogue. Beethhoven, Love is a Stranger, Who's that Girl, Sexcrime, Thorn in my Side are all good ones
