- Because I decided that sometime in my life, I had to remix this song. I felt like it was my responsibility as a Zelda fan to do it.
I did this all by ear, apart from the Link's Awakening section. I added the Link's Awakening section in because it was the first Zelda game I ever played so it only seemed fitting.
Also since RUclips was being buggy not long ago, I don't know if any of you missed my last video. It's an 8 bit VRC6 remix of a Deus Ex song: • Famitracker - Deus Ex:...
Download the NSF/FTM: levus28.weebly....
when that link's awakening just dropped in, i was like Holy Fuck this is AWESOME.
Premier Romanov I feel ya
A perfect fusion between classic overworld and Link’s awakening overworld!
0:56 Link's Awakening :O
Yeah. :D Such a good game...
Best part about the remix! Ties it all together
Actually very late, it starts at 0:36
Sounds perfect for an upbeat credits theme; for some reason it makes me think of Kid Icarus's credits theme.
All it would have taken to bring the VRC6 to America is for them to have marketed a "music expansion" pack that snapped on to the NES expansion port that would basically have consisted of a 47kohm resister bridging 2 pins together on the port. It would have cost pennies to make and they could have sold it for many dollars. I've modified an NES to do just that.
Super Hamster Gaming probably too close to the end of the life cycle with focus on the super Nintendo ramping up.
awesome
Idk about that but they COULD have integrated an MMC5 onto a dongle that plugged into that port. Recall that the MMC5 is of a Nintendo design so it would have been easier for Nintendo to source
0:00 - Wait a second! This is just--
0:07 - OHHH WHAT-
Speaking as someone who's not a Zelda fan, this is a certified BOP!
Love it! NES Zelda Overworld + GB Zelda Overworld = Awesome Zelda Overworld!
This has got to be the best Zelda remix I've ever heard. You should do more.
I like the fact that you've basically remade the song(s) in the 2A03 tracks, and the VR6 tracks build on it.
This remix is very lively! It gave me chills; the Link's Awakening section is absolutely fitting.
Zelda and Castlevania crossover!
I could pretty much listen to this over and over again for the rest of the day.
Kind of sounds like Hyrule Warriors if it was on the NES. I like it!
And this is using the actual VRC6 limitations? neat what technology could do then.
80s sound tech was more powerful than anyone ever gives it credit for. Personally, though, I think it has more character than the tech in the late 90s up till now.
Holy shit, that Link's Awakening part is absolutely orgasmic. :o
I really appreciate the mix of Zelda NES and Link's Awakening.
VRC6 is a sound expansion chip created by Konami, which this program may emulate. It apparently adds two Square channels and one Sawtooth channel to the original NES sound chip.
@Mrcarzylegoguy
It is what is it is, a wave shaped like a Saw. It's part of the VRC6 expansion.
This sir... IS AMAZING!!! I love how you also mixed in the Link's Awakening OW theme in there as well! You sir, have won my internets for the evening!
This is the highlight of my day
What I feel when I listen to this can't be described with words...
I love this and feel that it should be orchestrated as well.
Amazing remix. I love the way it comes in as the original Zelda overworld theme and then transitions into the remix.
This makes me miss making 8-bit covers. My laptop that I use for pretty much everything gaming and YT related got the BSOD.
That can happen for many reasons. You should check to make sure it's not something simple like RAM or whatnot. If you don't know how to do it, find someone that you know who does so you don't get the. "PC Repair Shop Runaround."
+Dom's Doodles Thing is, there is no way for me to find out the source. This is a bootup BSOD, so I have an infinite loop of starting and restarting. It doesn't even go into auto repair mode, so I can't use that to fix it or go into Safe Mode.
+Zoltier853 Can you get into the BIOS?
+Dom's Doodles And I have Windows 8, so I can't use boot options.
+Dom's Doodles Oh, yes.
@Sonoskeakigawa Actually I just mixed in the Link's Awakening Overworld theme later on into. The is in the key signature of the NES version, the GB version is 3 semitones lower.
This is really nice, Levus! Your instrument choice lends itself well to the style of this arrangement, and the compound beat gives it this upbeat march kinda feel.
I like it.
RUclips to Mp3, I chose you!
Same, bro.
So true.
yh, good luck doing that m8.
there is no way he dosent *link*ed that :D
Got dat joke
One idea goes into my mind when I hear this:
The Legend of Zelda-Rebirth...!
Don't know if that would be considered a bad thing or a good thing. In my eyes, it'd be interesting to see the original story in a new light I guess...
I thought this comment was a reference to FF7 Remake before I realized it's 8 years old lmao
This is so beautiful. Such a great remix.
This is amazing! I love how you added that bit from the Oracle games too! :D
Awesome work! You have to wonder how much awesomeness we missed out on in the US because the NES couldn't use audio expansion hardware.
I love the Link's Awakening section. This is class A stuff, man. From one famitracker to another.
holy
I am beyond words :O
It's really great to find people who know well about the FamiTracker here!
I am now the father of several Link's Awakening cartridges.
guys, you can't imagine this, but this is INCREDIBLY much work and effort he put into the song! i just started working with famitracker, and it's oh my god like science and really really hard to understand and get into. i am stunned. really, really great work! so much work! and it's just excellent! very well done!
Good to know that youtube is finally recommending me famitracker stuff after watching lots of related videos
Levi, you're one of the best 8bit-musicians I know! Love your work man!
Indeed, and it makes a world of difference to the sound.
I'm surprised that there are no comments saying how this is the absolute best 8-bit remix that I have ever heard, and that it sounds like the actual producers made this, it's so professionally done. I don't know why there aren't any comments about that. Please clarify this enigma
This is really great! Trying to learn Famitracker and seeing videos like this keeps my motivation up. Bravo!
'Tis not easy.
:D Nice arpeggios and DAT bass :D
an 8-bit remix of an 8-bit song my mind is blown o.O
this is a magic sound
A. y L, kirbyplayer you are a magic man.
First of all, I must say, this is the best VRC6 remix of any Zelda song I've heard. I've heard plenty of covers and remixes of Zelda music, but rarely any good ones. The use of the sawtooth, VRC6 Square 1 and Square 2 and the addition of PCM samples was really nice. I also must admit that I didn't like the Link's Awakening part at first as it seemed out-of-place, but now I've learned to appreciate it as LA was my first Zelda game too, haha!
Overall, I really like this. Keep it up!
Nice work, man! Always good to see more FamiTracker users! And quite a proficient one at that!
I like to play legend of zelda when I was kid and now I can remember this game.
If Nintendo ever made a sequel to Zelda 1 & 2 and made it 8 bit, I would love it if they used this! Also, I recognized that Link's Awakening part. I love it!
I don't know what I expected from this, but its absolutely incredible.
Extremely well done. You couldn't have mixed together the original theme and the one from Link's Awakening any better, and nothing sounds crowded or like the tracks are competing with each other, even though you're using VRC6. Favorited.
Damn you VRC6 (fist shake) Why weren't you there to make my childhood sound like this!
so glad you added the verse from the GB LoZ games
I like how the nes version and gb version are mixed together. Both are awesome. Both in one tune is EPIC
A literal masterpiece
EPIC. No other words are necessary to describe how awesome this is..
THIS IS SERIOUSLY AWESOME!!!!
I love that you started it off sounding exactly the same as the original 😁
Subscribed. The whole vrc6 thing you've got going on here makes me realize how fun sawtooth bass is.
Might have to stop being so 'only 2a03' and try it out.
Really demonstrates how much better the VRC6 was than the NES soundchip.
Beautiful.
cool. I see Famitracker is your new favorite composing program.
Dam son this is good! Nicely done!
@Tronnus I don't understand your question entirely.
It's using a VRC6 expension chip which was used in famicom games. The famicom is essentially the Japanese version of the NES, main difference being you can add sound expansions into the carts I believe. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone.
Look up the music for the Famicom version of Castlevania 3. It's one of the more notable examples of a game utilizing the VRC6 expansion chip.
Wow, Konami did a Zelda game? J/k.... Lol! This Sounds COOL! Great job on the arrangement!
This made me crack up. XD
this freakin awesome! i wouldnt get tired of this if it was on the the gameboy! XD very nice.
Ah finally someone who knows something about famitracker. .__.
I've always wanted to hear someone mix the original theme with the Link's Awakening version...
Same here.
Good stuff. I started listening and thought "Oh, a LOZ overworld cover" (I had another tab open and couldn't see the title) then it went into the remix, and I was like o shi-. Very nice!
This is incredible. Thank you for sharing!
This is brilliant!
It really does.
I love Famitracker
This is excellent!
Take my like man, this is awesome!
Fantastic dude, wow. This is addicting to listen to O_o
@cat333pokemon Well when I manage to upload them to solidfiles, they'll be fixed. Thanks for letting me know.
Awesome
I demand a 15 minute or 20 times loop extended edition!!!! Epic!!!
Next time, let this guy do the music on these games, nintendo.
This music sounds like a win theme. Still, it's awesome.
Too bad this was impossible on the NES. This song uses VRC6 (a chip made by Konami), which works in the NES, but the audio output pins from cartridges were not connected to the audio outputs of the NES, so there was no way to get the extra channels onto the speakers. The Famicom (Japanese version of NES) had such connections, so they got enhanced sounds in their games as well as the enhanced graphics that everyone gets.
ZeroByte Plus the Disc System made it even better. Were the Zelda games Disc System games?
ZeroByte The NES is totally capable of VRC6 playback. You just have to bridge two points on the motherboard with a capacitor. It totally gets around the disconnected expansion port :D I did it on mine and Akumajou Densetsu sounds the same as on a Famicom!
NintendoComplete Err, resistor. Not capacitor ;p
NintendoComplete Sure - with hardware mods and soldering.... A lot is possible to someone who can tinker. But the 99.9% of the users 'back in the day' wouldn't be so fortunate to hear the awesomeness that is Akumajo Densetsu.
Totally awesome! Great job.
Okay, thank you for the answer !
Legend of Zelda if it was composed by Tim Follin
The hardest thing i've ever heard
Sounds more lively than the original!! I like the twists in the melody!!
They would have had to re-program the chips, since the NES was built specially to pass off as an Entertainment System and not a video game system. This was due to the market for video games dying off in the 80s. Since it was re-modeled and re-created, expansion chips weren't to be thought of at the time of making the NES, so when Konami discovered how to make the VRC6 and VRC7 chips, they were unable to program them into PAL and NTSC models of the Famicom.
This would work very well for a bootleg snes sequel between Zelda 1 and 2 or even a demake of link to the past for the NES. It's quite varied and interesting to listen to compared to the original without sacrificing the theme and what made it memorable.
That was awesome! You should do more.
It's in the instrument editor. You may either experiment with the noise channel or import samples in the DPCM channel.
Awesome !
Hey this sounds great!
DUUUUDE I been looking for this remix ever since i heard it in some flash file i found!
It controls the volume of that channel.
If The NES could handle chips, we would've had this theme. In this style.
Beautiful. It was like getting punched in the face by my childhood.
Ganon*
Most of the games that used any variation of this song were pre-OOT, which introduced the human form of Ganon, Ganondorf.
i just downloaded Famitracker and dayum how long have you been practising every day to obtain this masterpiece :)?
This made me grin like an idiot! I love this so much!
Oh my fuck you mixed in the Link's Awakening Overworld I love you.
SOUNDS SO FRIKIN GUUD! :3
Good
I have only one word for this: Y-E-S !
Consider your Zelda Tributes paid in full.
