All it would have taken to bring the VRC6 to America is for them to have marketed a "music expansion" pack that snapped on to the NES expansion port that would basically have consisted of a 47kohm resister bridging 2 pins together on the port. It would have cost pennies to make and they could have sold it for many dollars. I've modified an NES to do just that.
Idk about that but they COULD have integrated an MMC5 onto a dongle that plugged into that port. Recall that the MMC5 is of a Nintendo design so it would have been easier for Nintendo to source
This has got to be the best Zelda remix I've ever heard. You should do more. I like the fact that you've basically remade the song(s) in the 2A03 tracks, and the VR6 tracks build on it.
80s sound tech was more powerful than anyone ever gives it credit for. Personally, though, I think it has more character than the tech in the late 90s up till now.
Beautiful matrimony of the original overworld theme with the extra section from Link's Awakening. Crying shame it never appeared in anything after the original GB games.
I'm surprised that there are no comments saying how this is the absolute best 8-bit remix that I have ever heard, and that it sounds like the actual producers made this, it's so professionally done. I don't know why there aren't any comments about that. Please clarify this enigma
VRC6 is a sound expansion chip created by Konami, which this program may emulate. It apparently adds two Square channels and one Sawtooth channel to the original NES sound chip.
guys, you can't imagine this, but this is INCREDIBLY much work and effort he put into the song! i just started working with famitracker, and it's oh my god like science and really really hard to understand and get into. i am stunned. really, really great work! so much work! and it's just excellent! very well done!
Amazing remix. I love the way it comes in as the original Zelda overworld theme and then transitions into the remix. This makes me miss making 8-bit covers. My laptop that I use for pretty much everything gaming and YT related got the BSOD.
That can happen for many reasons. You should check to make sure it's not something simple like RAM or whatnot. If you don't know how to do it, find someone that you know who does so you don't get the. "PC Repair Shop Runaround."
+Dom's Doodles Thing is, there is no way for me to find out the source. This is a bootup BSOD, so I have an infinite loop of starting and restarting. It doesn't even go into auto repair mode, so I can't use that to fix it or go into Safe Mode.
This is really nice, Levus! Your instrument choice lends itself well to the style of this arrangement, and the compound beat gives it this upbeat march kinda feel. I like it.
@Sonoskeakigawa Actually I just mixed in the Link's Awakening Overworld theme later on into. The is in the key signature of the NES version, the GB version is 3 semitones lower.
If Nintendo ever made a sequel to Zelda 1 & 2 and made it 8 bit, I would love it if they used this! Also, I recognized that Link's Awakening part. I love it!
@Tronnus I don't understand your question entirely. It's using a VRC6 expension chip which was used in famicom games. The famicom is essentially the Japanese version of the NES, main difference being you can add sound expansions into the carts I believe. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone. Look up the music for the Famicom version of Castlevania 3. It's one of the more notable examples of a game utilizing the VRC6 expansion chip.
First of all, I must say, this is the best VRC6 remix of any Zelda song I've heard. I've heard plenty of covers and remixes of Zelda music, but rarely any good ones. The use of the sawtooth, VRC6 Square 1 and Square 2 and the addition of PCM samples was really nice. I also must admit that I didn't like the Link's Awakening part at first as it seemed out-of-place, but now I've learned to appreciate it as LA was my first Zelda game too, haha! Overall, I really like this. Keep it up!
Extremely well done. You couldn't have mixed together the original theme and the one from Link's Awakening any better, and nothing sounds crowded or like the tracks are competing with each other, even though you're using VRC6. Favorited.
One idea goes into my mind when I hear this: The Legend of Zelda-Rebirth...! Don't know if that would be considered a bad thing or a good thing. In my eyes, it'd be interesting to see the original story in a new light I guess...
Subscribed. The whole vrc6 thing you've got going on here makes me realize how fun sawtooth bass is. Might have to stop being so 'only 2a03' and try it out.
Good stuff. I started listening and thought "Oh, a LOZ overworld cover" (I had another tab open and couldn't see the title) then it went into the remix, and I was like o shi-. Very nice!
This would work very well for a bootleg snes sequel between Zelda 1 and 2 or even a demake of link to the past for the NES. It's quite varied and interesting to listen to compared to the original without sacrificing the theme and what made it memorable.
when that link's awakening just dropped in, i was like Holy Fuck this is AWESOME.
Premier Romanov I feel ya
A perfect fusion between classic overworld and Link’s awakening overworld!
0:56 Link's Awakening :O
Yeah. :D Such a good game...
Best part about the remix! Ties it all together
Actually very late, it starts at 0:36
Sounds perfect for an upbeat credits theme; for some reason it makes me think of Kid Icarus's credits theme.

Super Hamster Gaming probably too close to the end of the life cycle with focus on the super Nintendo ramping up.
awesome
Idk about that but they COULD have integrated an MMC5 onto a dongle that plugged into that port. Recall that the MMC5 is of a Nintendo design so it would have been easier for Nintendo to source
0:00 - Wait a second! This is just--
0:07 - OHHH WHAT-
Love it! NES Zelda Overworld + GB Zelda Overworld = Awesome Zelda Overworld!
Speaking as someone who's not a Zelda fan, this is a certified BOP!
This remix is very lively! It gave me chills; the Link's Awakening section is absolutely fitting.
I could pretty much listen to this over and over again for the rest of the day.
This has got to be the best Zelda remix I've ever heard. You should do more.
I like the fact that you've basically remade the song(s) in the 2A03 tracks, and the VR6 tracks build on it.
And this is using the actual VRC6 limitations? neat what technology could do then.
80s sound tech was more powerful than anyone ever gives it credit for. Personally, though, I think it has more character than the tech in the late 90s up till now.
Kind of sounds like Hyrule Warriors if it was on the NES. I like it!
Holy shit, that Link's Awakening part is absolutely orgasmic. :o
Zelda and Castlevania crossover!
This is the highlight of my day
I really appreciate the mix of Zelda NES and Link's Awakening.
What I feel when I listen to this can't be described with words...
It's really great to find people who know well about the FamiTracker here!
Good to know that youtube is finally recommending me famitracker stuff after watching lots of related videos
I am now the father of several Link's Awakening cartridges.
This sir... IS AMAZING!!! I love how you also mixed in the Link's Awakening OW theme in there as well! You sir, have won my internets for the evening!
I love this and feel that it should be orchestrated as well.
@Mrcarzylegoguy
It is what is it is, a wave shaped like a Saw. It's part of the VRC6 expansion.
holy
I am beyond words :O
Beautiful matrimony of the original overworld theme with the extra section from Link's Awakening.
Crying shame it never appeared in anything after the original GB games.
This is amazing! I love how you added that bit from the Oracle games too! :D
I'm surprised that there are no comments saying how this is the absolute best 8-bit remix that I have ever heard, and that it sounds like the actual producers made this, it's so professionally done. I don't know why there aren't any comments about that. Please clarify this enigma

Indeed, and it makes a world of difference to the sound.

+Zoltier853 Can you get into the BIOS?
+Dom's Doodles And I have Windows 8, so I can't use boot options.
+Dom's Doodles Oh, yes.
so glad you added the verse from the GB LoZ games
This is so beautiful. Such a great remix.
I love the Link's Awakening section. This is class A stuff, man. From one famitracker to another.
This is really nice, Levus! Your instrument choice lends itself well to the style of this arrangement, and the compound beat gives it this upbeat march kinda feel.
I like it.
:D Nice arpeggios and DAT bass :D
@Sonoskeakigawa Actually I just mixed in the Link's Awakening Overworld theme later on into. The is in the key signature of the NES version, the GB version is 3 semitones lower.
an 8-bit remix of an 8-bit song my mind is blown o.O
I like how the nes version and gb version are mixed together. Both are awesome. Both in one tune is EPIC
Awesome work! You have to wonder how much awesomeness we missed out on in the US because the NES couldn't use audio expansion hardware.
I don't know what I expected from this, but its absolutely incredible.
EPIC. No other words are necessary to describe how awesome this is..

Levi, you're one of the best 8bit-musicians I know! Love your work man!
THIS IS SERIOUSLY AWESOME!!!!

Nice work, man! Always good to see more FamiTracker users! And quite a proficient one at that!
This is really great! Trying to learn Famitracker and seeing videos like this keeps my motivation up. Bravo!
'Tis not easy.
RUclips to Mp3, I chose you!
Same, bro.
So true.
yh, good luck doing that m8.
there is no way he dosent *link*ed that :D
Got dat joke
Extremely well done. You couldn't have mixed together the original theme and the one from Link's Awakening any better, and nothing sounds crowded or like the tracks are competing with each other, even though you're using VRC6. Favorited.
A literal masterpiece
One idea goes into my mind when I hear this:
The Legend of Zelda-Rebirth...!
Don't know if that would be considered a bad thing or a good thing. In my eyes, it'd be interesting to see the original story in a new light I guess...
I thought this comment was a reference to FF7 Remake before I realized it's 8 years old lmao
Damn you VRC6 (fist shake) Why weren't you there to make my childhood sound like this!
Beautiful.
Subscribed. The whole vrc6 thing you've got going on here makes me realize how fun sawtooth bass is.
Might have to stop being so 'only 2a03' and try it out.
I like to play legend of zelda when I was kid and now I can remember this game.
this is a magic sound
A. y L, kirbyplayer you are a magic man.
Dam son this is good! Nicely done!
This is brilliant!
I demand a 15 minute or 20 times loop extended edition!!!! Epic!!!
I love that you started it off sounding exactly the same as the original 😁
Take my like man, this is awesome!
Good stuff. I started listening and thought "Oh, a LOZ overworld cover" (I had another tab open and couldn't see the title) then it went into the remix, and I was like o shi-. Very nice!
This is excellent!
this freakin awesome! i wouldnt get tired of this if it was on the the gameboy! XD very nice.
Totally awesome! Great job.
DUUUUDE I been looking for this remix ever since i heard it in some flash file i found!
This made me grin like an idiot! I love this so much!
Ah finally someone who knows something about famitracker. .__.
Fantastic dude, wow. This is addicting to listen to O_o
Sounded like the opening to the animated series. I could almost hear "This is the Triforce of wisdom Link..."
This is incredible. Thank you for sharing!
cool. I see Famitracker is your new favorite composing program.
Wow, Konami did a Zelda game? J/k.... Lol! This Sounds COOL! Great job on the arrangement!
This made me crack up. XD
I've always wanted to hear someone mix the original theme with the Link's Awakening version...
Same here.
Really demonstrates how much better the VRC6 was than the NES soundchip.
Legend of Zelda if it was composed by Tim Follin
Hey this sounds great!
Awesome !
That was awesome! You should do more.
SOUNDS SO FRIKIN GUUD! :3
Good
Awesome
Dude I Love this song this is frekin cool 😄😄😄😄😃😃
I have only one word for this: Y-E-S !
OMFG!!! awesome!!!!
@cat333pokemon Well when I manage to upload them to solidfiles, they'll be fixed. Thanks for letting me know.
It's in the instrument editor. You may either experiment with the noise channel or import samples in the DPCM channel.
Beautiful. It was like getting punched in the face by my childhood.
Okay, thank you for the answer !
Immediate awesomeness :D
Mind = blown
enough to get me to sub. awesome!
Oh my fuck you mixed in the Link's Awakening Overworld I love you.
It really does.
The hardest thing i've ever heard
I love Famitracker
This would work very well for a bootleg snes sequel between Zelda 1 and 2 or even a demake of link to the past for the NES. It's quite varied and interesting to listen to compared to the original without sacrificing the theme and what made it memorable.
