It is a real bummer when things out of one’s control mean it is harder to be passionate about one’s hobby. No longer enjoying “the hunt” is so disappointing. The only doll of this bunch I want is the redhead, but I prize articulation and IDK if I can also afford the MTM skater body. I AM excited about the upcoming doll with a prosthetic leg!
If you're a rebody collector, this is how I rebodied mine: 230 is the pink dye pants MTM, 231 is the orange dye pants/BMR1959 Kira and her hair is polypropylene (🤬), 232 is the Asian tennis player, 233 is blue dye pants. This doll's head was lighter than the body, however, and even though I used a blue dye pants for her, a yellow top yoga might be better for some. Side note: 233 may be going on the petite Looks doll with the red/magenta hair. She's kinda cute on a curvy, too, but looked very strange on the Brooklyn MTM. 234 is the green dye pant/boxer MTM (I have her on the purple swirl pant curvy, and she's just darling!) 235 is on my BMR1959 Green hair MTM, and the 236 is on a Looks 17 (Brandon), but he might look just as good on the wheelchair Ken MTM.
The first two dolls and the last two dolls are my favourites from all the recent Fashionistas. I have the Barbies with impaired vision and Down Syndrome, but not the dolls from the 4-pack at the end (... yet?). Great video and great points, as usual! I'm so used to pixelated Barbies that I didn't even realise the first two had them and they've been in my collection for weeks now. 😅
I understand what you are saying- You are correct, they all have the same "look" and "look alike". I don't really like the MTM, because they remind me of marionette puppets. I do find myself sometimes buying a MTM, and a few Fashionistas because they all have the same "look". Your Barbie Fashionista #228 is cute and I like her dress. I like my collection to look like individuals. I like that Mattel made a blind Fashionista. She is too cute. The guy with the corn rows is a handsome guy. I wish it was rooted hair. I like his red floral romper also. I am an adult doll collector and an adult doll crafter. I am also a huge HOTD (House of the Dragon) fan! I am currently re-creating all the main characters using Barbies and Kens. I had a hard time finding black dolls with white hair or blonde hair. I found them in the Fashionista line (Fashionista #180) and created Baela and Rhanea, the twins. They are beautiful dolls- I left one with the long hair -Rhanea- and the other one I cut her hair short- Baela. I made Jacerys with a Ken Fashionista. I made Daemon Targaryen and Rhaenyra Targaryen with Mattel's Far Away Forest with blonde hair on both. With Corlyss Velaryon I made him with a Ken Looks Buff AA doll and I glued in white and silver dread lock hair in him. He is hot!!! His lady wife, Princess Rhaneys I made with a platinum braided haired Barbie. I have them all dressed in medieval clothing. I made their Castle Driftmark, and all the furniture inside is made of wood (because it is the medieval period). The Castle Driftmark turned out beautifully. Getting sigils of the 3 headed dragon and the hippocampus seahorse was not easy! I keep thinking I should re-create Cregan Stark, the King of the North. His sigil is a wolf. (Winter is coming!) Doll collecting and crafting is an extremely expensive hobby. Enjoy your doll collecting! I enjoyed your video.
Honestly, I can’t get too outraged over $10 playline dolls looking playline. Especially when Mattel is currently burying us under a wave of interesting and surprisingly well-made collector dolls. Having said that, I love the blind Barbie doll and will definitely get both of the new Kens! 😊
Same here, I don't buy fashionistas. The last one I bought, I ended up returning. Maybe I'm burnt out. I mostly try and go treasure hunting at thrift stores for older dolls or clothes now. Speaking of which, I was on a trip and I stopped at the Nashville McKay's and they were cleaned out. Is their doll section usually that low stock? Chattanooga and Knoxville McKay's usually have a couple of interesting items but I don't really go out the Nashville side of Tennessee so I wasn't sure if that was normal or I was just unlucky.
I’ll grab the broad ken for his head, the other ken for the romper, the raquelle wanna be for the everything and the Millie for the pink dress. Oh and carnival cause there’s something adorable about her
The Target and all the Walmarts near me never even stocked the handful of Fashionistas that I had wanted in the last 2 years. I think Mattel will start feeling a little pain sooner or later, even the big stores are over it. That lavender doll is exceptionally nice, though.
i love the Taya face sculpt, really a Filipina beauty!! as a filipino myself tho, i haven't encountered or heard of anyone with that name. in tagalog it means "bet" like in a lottery but in bisaya it can mean "rust" pfft. it is a cute-sounding name i suppose. i wish i could find her but ironically (or maybe not ironic? idk) enough, in the philippines, fashionista 199 is so hard to find
I haven’t bought a fashionista in years, their clothes generally are not high enough quality for me to want to use them as fashion packs and now all of them have pixel face 😢 The new sculpt looks nice but I don’t feel like repainting her so she’s a no buy for me. On the bright side it’s so easy to not over spend on barbie dolls now 😂
I haven't bothered buying fashionistas in ages for the same reasons you mentioned. Mattel gets lazy when they don't have much competition. Then they get all creative when we get too excited about a competing brand.
Nice review. I’m sad that the new Ken’s are pixelated 😢 I like your point about being able to focus on dolls you already have so I think maybe I’ll skip this wave of Fashionistas and focus on grail dolls and on all the Ken’s I still have to unbox 😅❤
The new Fashionista representating down syndrom is gorgeous. I have her and her face is beautiful. I exchanged dresses with the blond one, I think they both look even cuter in each other's dress. I just wished they had articulations. Shame their body types isn't available with articulation because it's a cute body type that would represent a lot of people.
I thought so too! I don't have her and probably won't be getting her 😢, but tbh I don't think her face comes across (to me) as having the Downs syndrome features. She just looks like a happy young person! Having said that, I hope they use this face sculpt again because her smile is so cute! I would love to see how she would look with different makeup!
You should try the Molotow liquid chrome pens to "chrome" Barbie's gray jewelry. And the 1 mm pen can easily add detail to shoe buckles, etc. It works well.
My new Fashionista No.236 just came in the mail, and I immediately used him as my Mini Me's new look. Made To Move Match: Fashionista No.167. Barbie Look No.9 and No.17
Thank you for this video. I haven't been buying too many Barbie Fashionistas lately. I will say that I did order both Ken dolls and I am in love with the broad ken doll. I am actually inspired to make a doll version of myself with him. I'm definitely getting the Barbie in the lavender dress and I actually like the tall Carnival doll. I also want the four pack Barbie set and the black haired doll with the posable prosthetic leg. I am hoping to get the new Diwali Barbie doll. She looks absolutely stunning. 🤩
Nice video as always!! Funny thing, the fashionista with the lilac dress , I was certain she was the one that she was not going to be pixelated. And I say this because it is not the first time Mattel would release a Fashionista line with all the dolls pixelated but one would be clear. Now I dont remember numbers, but 182, 199 were not pixelated as the others from their line were. And even when you showed her and you said she is, and I believe you but I can`t really see it because of the video. So I suppose that she is but not that much? I am going to get her anyway because I like her face. The Daya is cool but I have seen better Daya`s in the F line and in playline in general. The others, I agree with you, cute but boring. I like the Taya face mold and I dont have any, I need to get me one 😁. Lucky me I dont like the F line outfits most of the time and if you combine the pixelation issue and the fact that I have to search for an appropriate articulated body every time, If they were all good I would be having a serious space / budget problem...
#234s face sculpt reminds me of Susan Lucci, the soap actress (actor?) I'm done with buying Barbies for now, except for possibly the Odile face playline doll that just came out! Gotta save up for her bc she costs a little more as she comes with extra clothes and accessories.
The more exposure you have to fashion dolls, you more you learn--whether you want to or not--about the processes and materials of how they're made, if only because you keep asking *why* they did it that way... Yep, Grace sculpt has little blobs of plastic in the inner corners of her eyes, to make the eye shape a little more flat so it's easier to print the eyes than on Mbili. (Curiously, MH Gooliope has that, too) I feel like the tall doll's orange checkerboard + flower dress is trying hard to be a Teen Skipper Fashion Avenue dress (but it doesn't quite get there, not the least reason being because a Fashion Avenue outfit would have had...like...a fake fur pink jacket and a purse, too) I honestly feel like the purple bubble skirt look is also trying to be late 90s Fashion Avenue, but, again, it's missing too many pieces to really achieve that aesthetic Still, some of these dolls do offer hope that the playline designers will remember that texture is a vital part of making an outfit interesting!
I am totally with you. I’m not buying any of the Fashionistas anymore. Especially due to the pixelation on their faces and let’s not mention they’re very cheap outfits. It’s pretty sad the state of it. So when I started doing is just trying to find older dolls with a cool outfits and we rooting them.
Totally with you! Bought my first barbie a month ago! She was a fashionista from 2019 the afro hair one. Don't get me wrong she is gorgeous and beautiful but she looks like a regular sheap doll I'd buy at a store! I was very disappointed. I didn't even knew they did not make them with the rubber legs anymore wich was the main reason I loved the barbie dolls so much! Plus her body looked cheap and regular and the outfit was horried
Might get the red-haired ponytail girl with the '50's cheerleader look, just to re-body. Kristi Yamaguchi is a good idea for that--petite and possibly somewhat athletic?
I found Fashionista 51 thrifting. It's nice to have one with no pixelation. She has the Summer face mold and is quite pretty. I just got the Kristi Yamaguchi doll, probably the only collector that's not going to use her as a body Donner.
I don't think the designers care as much as the fans and collectors would like them to. We know they have these planned in advance so they are well aware of buyers likes and dislikes but we are not their demo
The only one in this line I want is the one with the petite body and red hair. She will be immediately redressed and possibly rebodied. The inspired by line was so disappointing with the exception of the Barbie and Ken Totally Hair. I was hopeful for the peaches and cream and they golden dreams ones but they were not it for me.
I really can’t see the pixelation unless I look close so don’t trip on that. What’s pissing me off is they never give Ken pants anymore. I’ve found most of my Ken pants thrifting. But I’ll definitely get the redhead Daya. Love redheads and Daya is my favorite head sculpt but I’m waiting for them to be in stores. Maybe I’ll get the Millie on sale for the dress.
I also want to make that petite Ken doll my mini me. I just don’t have a beard so I’m thinking of getting rid of it on mine or buying a second one to do a custom doll.
I only like the broad Ken doll from the fashionistas. I’m so late but I now am interested in Barbie looks. I’m very hesitant to buy new Barbie’s. I usually look for older Barbie’s. I love the Mattel creations dolls but I don’t wanna spend that much on a doll I don’t wanna touch.
@@AriFan777 Hello. Thanks for your reply. Why I asked is because four of the Fashionistas were not available on Amazon at the time since they regarded the Sellers as not being up to their high standards. Thanks again, and happy collecting.

I changed her outfit out on the tall doll and the curvy
The only ones I really want are the blind doll, the African American Downs doll, and the doll with the lavender bubble skirt dress.

Fashionista 235 is a perfect match for bmr male tango. I bought him and he's on that body now.
thanks for the heads up! I wanted to use him for a mini me.
@nappyboi312 np. The head is a slight more red undertone, if that matters. but you only notice if you really look hard.
The tall one uses the carnival face
Kids move on to the next toy so fast these new dolls are meant to be one time use

Sick of Millie.
Agree to disagree, she's pretty enough without eyeshadow in lavender. She's gorgeous 🥰. The tall girl, he dress is not for me either
No longer interested in fashionistas. Even new sculpts. Meh.

Is 234 have soft hair
yes. she uses saran hair which is soft.
234 Look Greek
Really, collectors are so annoying, these dolls are made for children, so they're playing while a bunch of manchild are complaining.
