I have this weird propeller-nosed wood topwater lure my dad gave me forever ago, I’m scared to use it cause I don’t wanna lose it haha. Maybe try some lighter weight kastmasters? They’re a straight up trout killer, and I’ve even caught a few bass by reeling slow with a little finesse
I like micro panfish curly tail grubs I have like for and as soon as it hits the water a bass hits it if they never seen it before and I recently caught bluegill on it
see you later buddy cracks me up, reminds me of fishing with my dad... he always said "thanks for the fun, catch you later" when he released them......dang i sure miss that man, best fishing and hunting partner i ever had.
Those of us that had a Dad to take us and teach us how too hunt / fish are the lucky ones. I too was taught those skills and would have passed them on if I had a son. My Dad was my very best friend , been gone a long time now . But I keep his memory alive every time i go fishing / hunting . I feel he is still with me . Tom Daytona Beach, FL.
archeryhunter72 this may seem weird and not normal, but I am a girl who loves to fish , hike , camp and stuff like that. My parents are outdoor lovers.
I've used the snap beans before and they are fun to use. I know it sounds weird, but try running them in tandem. I used to rig 2 on a bent piece of thin wire (long before I ever heard about the Alabama rig) and some 6# floro. I don't know if it makes any sense to anyone else but I always try to create a plausible story for my tandem rigs. Sometimes I make it look like a minnow chasing a bug, sometimes it's a small fish chasing a smaller one, sometimes it's just a simulation of a small group of schooling minnows. I've noticed when I'm reeling in fish that often the fish are not alone. I've also noticed that very natural looking minnow lure will sometimes have a school of minnows following the lure. That got me thinking about how much more effective having two or more minnow lures which appear to be mirroring each others movements could be. Anyway get some thin wire to keep them separated and start experimenting with patterns and designs. I have had good luck with a set up of uneven sides with a larger slender minnow closely chasing one of these snap bean types, and it will produce bites on both lures. I try to make them as close together as possible without getting tangled constantly.
Fun video! I’ve noticed that really the only drawback with the cheapo Amazon/eBay lures is the hook quality. I don’t mind replacing a treble once in a while - especially when you factor in the price.
I have about 25 of these tiny lures, (I prolly use 3) and they're by far one of my favorites. I at times run a tiny snell float ahead of them on the line if I am fishing in places I need them to pull more shallow. Good series man, love the channel.
I just bought a few creme ultralight “bean” lures from Walmart for $1.25 ea. I also bought a mini creme crayfish crank bait. Figured they’ll be good for trout.
With Gerbers track record of quality and the pricing of all of their new fishing tools, it's a hard pass for me . They are a solid 3 times the cost of what I'd pay to gamble on their quality. $70 for a nipper and tether? No way. For that money you can get a Leatherman Micra and tether for your vest and get a Leatherman Squirt for the tackle box (or a cheaper full sized multitool).
I love those little bean crankbaits. I have one name brand one (Strike King Bitsy Minnow), and I've caught a bunch of fish on it. Recently I got a bunch of cheap ones with a single treble hook, some with a more centered hook, some with a rear hook. I noticed the rear hook ones have a horrible hook up ratio, but the center hook ones do fine. The cheap ones actually have a better action than the name brand, but feel much lighter in the water (almost like you're just reeling in the line itself).
Nice going, seems the fish don't care what ya spend . I have a few UL lures I use ; #1 a Mepps "Timber Doodle " 1/ 4 oz. , Mepps UL " Aglia Wooly Worm , Black Fury , and a Johnson " Silver Minnow "( gold / sliver ) in 1 / 16 oz. they work for most all pan fish , trout , and even bass ! Thanks, Tom Daytona Beach, FL. Try em , and see, eh .
I love Saint Croix rods! I recently purchased 2 Saint Croix avid rods. a 5'6" ultralight, and a 6'6" light, both fast action. Landed my new PB on the 5'6" this year (rainbow trout) also had the pfluger president reel on it. Lost one that I think is bigger (took the hook and killed the 4lb leader) on my 6'6" paired with my also new shimano sustain 2500hg. The shimano is the nicest/smoothest reel ive ever used, even the drag is exquisite. pairs quite dreamily with the rod. I just wish shimano still made a sustain 1000 size.
Local species here in England love the cheap ones. I paid approx $6.50 for a pack of ten from China, off EBay, including shipping. They work very well in shallow water. I've changed their treble hook for an in-line single.
I'm very happy to see you release the stick fish scenes they are very close to getting on the Endangered Species list! LOL! I rate your video's (From 1 - 10 and 10 being great) I give you and your channel a ..................................................... a 15 ! 🙌😄😅🇺🇸😎
I normally use worms and minnows, but after watching you, I think it's time to try the lures people give me for my birthday and Christmas. I did use a Rapala lure many years ago and a fish that was slightly longer than the lure took it. I pulled it in and I don't think I've used it since.
Man I think it’s time we get you setup with a BFS rod and reel. Would be an interesting twist for all the UL content and I have a feeling you would really enjoy it.
@@lordoffishtown4455 I'm from Australia as well but BFS is short for Bait Finesse, which basically it's a style of fishing where you use a specialised baitcast rod and reel that can cast super light lures with ease. The only problem is it can be quite expensive but if you go check out (The Reel Test) he has some great reveiws on BFS gear and also has a good number of cheaper BFS options that pretty much anyone can afford.
One thing about the cheap versions is you can throw them where the fish are without worrying so much about getting snagged. But that doesn't make quite as much difference with UL baits as when you're tossing bigger baits for bass, musky, of saltwater species.
I never buy expensive fishing gear...the fish can't tell the difference between a $1 lure & a $20 lure...and my cheap Shakespeare rigs haul in just as many lunkers as a $400 combo & last just as long...I've got 20 year old Shakespeares that still drag the fish in at a fraction of the cost! Maybe I need to start up a fishing channel...🤔🤔🤔
What line weight do find works best for you with these light crank baits? I've been using 6lb mono for my small cranks with 2 treble hooks ,but it seems a little heavy for the single treble cranks like you used today.
I throw mine on 12lb mono, and I recommend putting a 1/16oz split weight 3inches ahead of the lure on the line. It adds weight for my casting and makes it slow sink for deeper fishing.
I caught a 3 pound bass last month on one of those cheap crankbaits, 2$ for 5 on wish, I think. You can catch almost anything with those, so I now put one or two in every one of my tackle boxes.
you should try the Mustad Fastach clip. I had it one of mtb I don't remember which box it was but I use that a lot when I know I will change out lures a lot.
Just recently found your channel. I am digging the small baits! Question: do you tie each bait to the line, or do you use a swivel to attach the baits? If no to the swivel, why not? Thanks.
Swivels in size 00 and 000 are working most of the time fine. But the very tiny lures are just to sensible, and even that much amount of weight could cripple the action. If you are using Fluorocarbon leader, witch I highly recommend, then a Rapala loop knot is the ultimate solution.
I would try some micro jerk baits from yo zuri or maybe a trout/crappie magnet. Also try carrying a second rod so your not constantly having to switch. I been liking a light action from okuma for trout and small bass
Fish I haven't seen you catch that I commonly catch in Mi: rock bass, suckers, northern pike Fish I have never caught that you do: Gar, Buffalo, & thankfully Asian Carp
I have the cheap crankbaits from amazon as well. Isn’t the yozuri a sinking bait? I have one too but have t used it too much. Also looking for a travel rod similar to yours, did you get it online? And you can’t go wrong with the Flueger
Jonathan Gerringer the gx10 4 piece works well. I use it all the time superrrr durable. I’ve caught tuna on it I caught a GT and a makerial, and the thing is, is that it’s supposed to be for trout and bass. It comes in its own container. That was just a suggestion. Not the actual one he has.
yeah both the baits featured in this video are sinking baits (meant to mention that and forgot). i purchased the rod a long time ago from cabelas/bass pro i believe, but amazon sells it also (just be careful not to overpay on amazon)
Both are fantastic lures. But none is (intentionally) made to be better than the other fishcatchingwise. It’s all about quality. The Yo-Zuri has better hooks and better split rings. It maybe won’t shatter as easy either if you accidently throw it on to a rock.
In a competition like this I think it's more random chance of either lure catching more or bigger fish. Overall it appears that the more expensive lure really wasn't worth the extra cost.
also I think once you get a few bites it attracts in other fish. hence why he starts getting one a chuck. n pond fish can often turn desperate once they know there's some food items about. What’s your guys’ favorite UL lure?! (Aka I need video ideas) haha
618 Fishing I love rapala lures. I use them for trout bass really anything. I catch salt water fish with them too. My favorite are the sinking ones

Have you tried the top water poppers made for fly fishing?
I like micro panfish curly tail grubs I have like for and as soon as it hits the water a bass hits it if they never seen it before and I recently caught bluegill on it
Try the Mini Magnet, they're a tiny, tiny downsized version of the Trout Magnet. They're literally smaller than my pinky fingernail.

you should try the Mustad Fastach clip. I had it one of mtb I don't remember which box it was but I use that a lot when I know I will change out lures a lot.
why don't you use lure snaps? much easier way to change lures then to tie them again and again. great video btw
