THERE IS NO “HERO”.. that’s the point. I hate vanilla one dimensional cliche “heroes”. The BOYS has none of that, and that’s why it’s so realistic and dark. And NO ONE THINKS Homelander is a Hero. He’s just the most fascinating, entertaining and excellent character who steals every scene. Mostly because Antony Starr’s acting. Dude was born for this role.

When did film watching become a moral enterprise? Of course Homelander isn’t the hero, but he’s certainly the protagonist of the show. He undergoes the most plot points and he really is a deeply unique character. Without him no one would watch, the show would be boring. That’s the point people are making.
To answer your first question, movies became a moral issue in the 1930s, when the Hays Code censored them. Hughie is the show's protagonist since it began with A-Train accidentally killing his girlfriend. The show is named after the human vigilante group he joined afterward.

European film dominated American by the 60s, and they had to abandon the whole project for a rating system and free speech. The ability of directors to inject their own personal, controversial, dark morality is what made film great, and made us grow as individuals; never being too certain of what’s right and wrong is important, because we are nowhere near the end state.

It's the same reason and argument on why fans like THE JOKER. If you know what he's done, then you understand what I'm saying. 😐
It's because we're given no reason to root for his opponents, who aren't likeable people., in fact they are deeply unpleasant. So when he comes along all charismatic and entertaining, you can genuinely like him despite being well aware of what he really is.
And I think that applies to both Homelander and who he is meant to represent.

The concept of a morally corrupt, "Bad Superman" is terrifying and therefore interesting. Combine that with how well Anthony Starr portrays Homelander and you have a character that is electric on screen, which will earn people's admiration.

People love a well crafted villian , period . and homelander is a well crafted villian. he was rasied in a lab , isolated this gives him the real human trait of lonliness that most any one can understand, he feels isolated even as an adult because of this. it's how he copes with said problem that turns him for potential good guy intoa bad guy.

Erin does not seem well which is sad. Nor does she seem to be getting along with Claudia Doumit and Karen Fukuhara which is also sad. I loved her in The Kings of Summer and she was so pretty then. I don't know why she felt the need for plastic surgery as she was naturally beautiful and she clearly has body image problems what with her notable anorexia in the last few years. She's clearly going through something deep with a lot on her mind all the time. I hope she's able to confront and overcome whatever she's going through soon and wish her all the best.

As for her look, yea it is health related but also the type of makeup she does aswel sometimes enhances that, which he sort of alluded to in a post while back. Homelander has the biggest opportunity for growth. Even if he doesn't grow, the ability to is what makes him more sympathetic, and thus, a better main character than any other.
The appeal of Homelander is similar to Game of Thrones s1-4. *Homelander is essentially Joffrey as an adult in the modern age. * And every scene he’s in is a morbidly curious exploration for the audience. Antony Starr is brilliant. A likable villain the audience loves to hate. Great interview!

Seems like there's different chemistries, when certain different types of people are grouped together, sometimes we get uneven vibes. Claudia and Karen obviously are vibing together and Erin is trying to match it but keeps seeming to end up having a conversation by herself while they have a conversation of their own, together. It's sad because it happens in real life, and somebody always ends up feeling left out or alienated. She's probably not as secure in her place as they are in theirs.

Eric intentionally states that the show is anything but 'subtle' so having Homelander as a 'metaphor' for Trump doesn't directly mean that Homelander is Trump in a literal sense.

Trump obviously can’t fly and doesn’t have laser eyes, but they’re using Homelander’s supporters with American flags to represent Trump and his supporters. easily the most well written and well acted. Even with how terrible he is many people can sympathize with wanting to be loved and respected. Beneath the murderous superhero he is a human, no less than me and you. That is what I believe most people love about the character, not his actions, but *why* he is the way he is.
Oh for sure. Also disenfranchised and socially sidelined people like the power fantasy. They don't fantasize murdering people, but they want to feel more in control of their lives.
That being said, I understand when people feel put off when someone just goes "Yeah Homelander is great" without clarifying what they like about the character.
He is easily the most interesting character to watch, but I would never want to be on the same planet with him. The writers nailed it with their take on fatherhood, abandonment issues and narcissism.

these statement proves these writers and actors know nothing about the Homelander, he was born into a cold cell with no contact with others outside of the terrible experiments they would force upon him as well as the religious radicalization on top of sense of nationalism, and the projection that he was to be “perfect” that he was forced to endure. I'll explain it simply. Basically, they're infected with the politics mindvirus... more detail would be that this caused them to compare Homelander with Trump (not kidding, they straight up said that). Then they see people liking Homelander's character, which in their minds equates to people supporting Trump, so they do everything possible to try and make Homelander look like the bad guy as much as possible since this is the comparison they've written into the show, and now when people still like his character anyway, they get mad. That's the basic history.

People love Homelander because Antony Starr is a hyper competent actor, and because our population as a whole is the most mentally ill it’s ever been on both sides of the political spectrum. Plus, the main cast annoyed me so much in the last season finale I was actively rooting for him to murder them all with the exception of Soldier Boy and my glorious Queen Maeve who will be missed.
