  • As a competition shooter, it has been great to see rules relax to where manufactures are going these days. As a result, the XC, Staccato’s flagship model… has increased in popularity and I had to get my hands on one. But this begs the question… can it be so Good that it provides an advantage? In this video, I review the Staccato XC.
    Checkout the Shootout between this Gun against the Nighthawk TRS Comp, Sand Viper, and the Masterpiece Arms DS9 (Ported):

    The action of the XC has to be experienced to be believed. So slick and smooth.

      I didn’t mention this in the video as I didn’t have time… but I’m surprised how many LEOs in my local municipality carry these. It’s also a great conversation starter with them. But these gentlemen are making proactive choices to buy them at their own expense just because they love how these shoot.

    That’s what I love about the Staccato and the mags is that they engineered the mag extensions exactly the length it needs so there is no chance of over insertion anymore like other 1911 double stacks. Great review and XC! Thanks!

      2 different XC’s and they both have experienced over-insertion with 20-rd mags. Locked the whole pistol up whenever that happens.

    Good stuff Paul. As with all guns I think that the "advantage" this gun provides covers up the "sin" of bad technique especially in A/B class shooters (Like EX/Low level MAs in IDPA). When it comes to things like for duty use I am all for that. Most LEOs don't train as much with their gun so I want the tool to make the job easier. I think in competition it gives people a false sense of ability. As you discovered on your transitions drills. It's similar to when red dots started getting popular on carry guns. Over time, the skill level will rise to meet the equipment. I think the same is true here. I look forward to where the shooting sports will be in the next 10 years.

    • @LordPerique

      MPA makes a comped gun? It makes perfect sense that a quasi-open gun is going to beat a limited gun.

    • @mwtaytay

      I’m curious, I’m relatively new to 2011’s, what makes the XC “beat” any of the pistols you listed? Now I’ve heard several people commend the XC but I’m wondering what makes it better than another 2011 because I haven’t heard that ? Legit question, trying to learn or at least decide if the info makes sense. Thanks in advance

    • @awokeone7997
      @awokeone7997 3 месяца назад +2

      @michaeltaylor1517 the XC is the cheaper of the ones mentioned in the video. Out of thr comped guns, its the only one with a one piece barrel/comp combo, some say it shoots better than the TRS Comp with a better trigger for about $2k depending on the features you get from NH that come stock on the XC. Pit/Sand Viper are way overpriced due to the whole John Wick movie. Check out RDR gear where he compares the XC, TRS Comp and Sand Viper.

    • @mwtaytay
      @mwtaytay 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the info, I would assume the XC is cheaper due to the polymer grip vs the steel/aluminum ones on the others tho no, although I think the taran ones are polymer as well? Idk man, I just bought an atlas to replace my shadow 2 for competition and within the same week I bought the nighthawk trs commander but I haven’t shot that and neither are comp’d. I think if staccato went with a metal grip like the E2 by cheely they would be closer in price to some of the others and I watched a video dogging polymer triggers in 2011’s but idk how true that is due to lack of experience with them. I will watch that video you suggested tho, thanks for the info , I really do appreciate it!!

    • @awokeone7997
      @awokeone7997 3 месяца назад +2

      @michaeltaylor1517 the Atlas is a very good choice, some prefer the Athena over the XC due to the tight tolerances, better trigger, better/metal grips and ergos. I'm just saying that for a production gun, Staccato XC is a very good gun for the money.

  • @N238E
    @N238E 3 месяца назад +2

    The quality is obvious. I'm just not sure how that translates into an advantage. It just looks like a fully optimized 2011.

  • @0214Bub

    You mentioned it ran flawlessly. However with the comp are there any ammunition considerations or will it run reliably on most production ammunition?

    • @TheGentlemanGunner
      @TheGentlemanGunner  3 месяца назад +1

      So I ran Blazer 115 A, Sig 124 +P, Fed124, as well as AS 124 JHP. All fed and ran. I wouldn’t run subsonic ammo through this for performance reasons (lack of gas to work the comp)… but I can certainly do it as a follow up item on the shootout video

    Good video thanks! Do you miss an aluminum or steel grip or metal trigger? The XC always looks amazing but 4300 gets you plenty of all metal double stack options.

    • @TheGentlemanGunner
      @TheGentlemanGunner  3 месяца назад

      Good question, I prefer those things… but the XC’s selling point isn’t parts. It’s what is the best shooting gun they can make and shooting it makes you forget those nice to have items. But without spending time on it, it can dilute the perceived value as to why are there polymer in places where it’d be nice have aluminum/steel. Best illustration I can come up with is how the Corvette’s body panels have been fiberglass/composite rather than metal… three reasons… general weight savings, having the ability to increase chassis stiffnesses as well as weight distribution… part of what makes the Corvette a “Corvette”. Having the polymer grip, helps with weight, recoil absorption, and improved ergonomics (easier to mold polymer).

Mpa will probably have a better sub 2lb trigger out the box and no grip safety to monkey around with. I just bought an atlas Athena as a do all gun to hold me over till figure out dedicated guns for limited optics and idpa carry optics. Been shooting an sp01 for years but my grip caused my hand to bleed after ever match. Not a problem with the Athena so far. Going to order an mpa loc based on your video alone.

    • @TheGentlemanGunner

      I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s a question of can it handle a round of it… possibly (assuming it can chamber it)… but whether it can do it more than once is another question. The guns that can truly handle 9 major have thicker barrels, links, etc…
