Forget the guidelines or protocol because a thief does not care
I don’t think it’s a joke, but when people look at the statistics of the amount of tourists that come compared to he ones crimes were committed against, and then the reasons why, what could have been done to prevent based on location, males, compared to females, and assume how many were not reported. Some people make a judgment based off of those statistics. A pessimist will downplay all of those and go up against someone who is optimistic, which is fine, maybe their reason for coming is a little bit riskier than someone who is coming for long term, who have time to meet people outside of the current way people are getting scoped. Maybe someone needs to wear their jewelry and needs to be on their phone on the street compared to someone who can care less. For some, that’s too much cautiousness to go to a place when there’s other options, and some people don’t think it’s a big deal cause they see more benefit. On the other side, there’s also people that have no clue what’s going on down there. I can’t really fault them, I can’t expect the country I don’t live in to be as safe as the one coming from, because it’s a choice to go there, not mandatory.

I have a trip to Medellin coming up and im thankful for videos like this. Ive drastically changed my plans to avoid being in any situation where im not in control.
I have thought about going. One thing for sure I will make sure I am proficient with Spanish. Second fix my own drinks or if they fix me a drink I must have them drink first. third don't be cheap pay for a upscale place or airbnb with tough requirements for entry and have a safe

i was stabbed in centro medellin 6:00 pm in a tuesday in july 2023. no one came to help me. everyone only looked. which leads me to believe they are all the same. i sold my apratment and wont miss it!!

@johnfoley4023 it was some kind of pick i didnt realize i was stabbed i though t i just got punched.until i heard people were yelling at me and pointing at my stomahe and i looked down at my side and saw the pick still in me and blood. and then i realize i was stabbed. it was by some homeless looking guy. not robbed. it was random. mentally ill man. it was my first time in centro. . it was not life threatening and i made full recovery. but its still a random stabbing. and if he hit an artery i would have for sure died in the streets of centro. still no one even tried to come to help they only looked at me. i knew not to remove the pick i walked myself to a taxi to go to a hospital. the taxi guy didnt even wanna take me he told me to call an ambulance. but that would take to long i thought so i gave him 200 dollars. and he was pissed that i got blood in his car and asked me for extra money cus he said now he has to clean it. so i gave him another 100 dollars.
It’s a stressful place to go ok vacation even if you have to take all theses precautions 😮😮. You go on vacation to relax and de stress and enjoy yourself. And not to add more stress to it. Colombia is simply a dangerous country

In almost every adult job interview I have had the interviewer says the same thing. Then they just read off a list of questions.
Once again, they are actually quite sophisticated in their approach. All the people involved are good actors, working together to create an illusion of everything being normal and it is only in hind sight that these men see subtle clues they missed. It is a group strategy working against one individual. It is like you go out to play hockey and it is you against five people; you have no chance.
The future of this kind of operation is going to change because more people are becoming more aware of how it works but be sure it will change and become more sophisticated than it is now. What do you think their next move is?
Very true and they understand that men are traveling and looking for experiences and enjoy life and they set traps and took advantage.
Maybe Colombia as a whole can finally address the lawlessness that permeates their society. The concept of papaya is really victim shaming. Start paying a living salary. Colombia is really under control of "old money". Laws need to be modernized. Political and the judicial systems need to be overhauled to get all the corruption purged. Colombians need to take responsibility and accountability (Colombians seem to hate taking accountability for their own mistakes). Foreigners must recognize that Colombia is only 20-25 years along in the journey of shaking off cartel anarchy. There is a lot of growing pains to factor in, but foreigners need to become educated and oriented about staying safe BEFORE stepping foot in Colombia. Going to Colombia as a clueless traveler is a recipe for disaster.

How the beer scam works: They bring three beers, unopened to get you to drop your guard. You crack it open, they open theirs. Then one girl goes to the other room, drugs her own drink then "accidentally" picks up yours and not wanting to be rude you say "ah well i'd make out with that chick who cares who's beer it is" and next thing you know you are naked and alone in the woods. That's how it works.
so why not insist they drink your drink first or fix your own drink
@@lawrencerbe2661: fix your own drink is a must, of course. However they’ll try anyway to slip some substance into whatever you eat or drink. The night is long and keeping your wits up at all times and in any possible context is a challenge. Besides this necessary constant watch out, the switching of bottles or glasses or plates is subtly, not sharply done. A girl who does this and her girlfriends will look into your eyes, caress you, hint at close proximity, which is the premise for sex. Unless you’re determined to stick to your precautions and walk away, at some stage your guard will go down. Walk away, before any of this happens.

seems like a good dude, a bit naive tho...iv gotten myself hurt travelling many times and had to swallow 20k medical bills etc... each time, and its been a few times, had my house burned down and started again from zero.. no insurance etc,. I should have made a RUclips video and attached payment links... he got back on his feet quick, its nice to see the internet care for others... he was smart to reach out for help... I just sat alone for 2.5 years and started at the wall and then got to work rebuilding my life.... wasn't easy... took me a year to get an iPhone, 6 months to get id... he was lucky he still had his laptop and id and clothing... I started from naked on my front lawn at 4am... I wish him well. he has a good attitude.

Colombia is not all like that. The biggest part of Colombia pretty decent. These kind of problems only play in the touristic places like Medellín, Bogotá and the Caribean coast like Cartagena, Barranquilla and Santa Marta. There're a lot of people who try to take advantage of "tourists". Especially in Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena.
But seems it's like most of the tourists see Colombia as one big discotheque. Flying in for a few days to party "cheap" and going after alcohol, drugs and woman... The North of Colombia is totally ruined by tourism. All other parts are just like other countries in Latin America.

Ibiza, Thailand and the DR also have floods of those looking for party, booze, drugs and women, but nowhere near the violent crime rates of Colombia. Why would that be?

You need to be careful these days in all those countries. But cities like Medellín, Bogota and Cartagena are totally rotten by tourism, and this attracts a lot of crime and other people who try to take advantage.
A few countries are unstable and suffering from economic crisis's. The monthly income in Venezuela is around $10 for some people for instance. And then they see Gringo's passing by with $1000 telephones. So no shit they're even shoot or stab you for that.
For that South America is verry different then Europe or Azia, so maybe because of that.
And when there're verry specific problems in just a handful of cities, then it doesn't mean the whole country is like this.
The majority of Colombia is not verry different then countries like Peru or Ecuador and actually verry nice.

They suddenly got very cold and aggressive and accused me of saying they personally did this. Idk, it just seemed weird how defensive they got. Made me question whether they were this type...

I knew people like this in college. They scored high on academic tests but were imbecile-level with common knowledge. My roommate in college was like this. He would ace difficult tests without trying, but he could not understand the most basic concepts in everyday life. I thought he was trolling at first, but he was not. My brother-in-law is also like this. He is a surgeon and knows several languages, but he cannot understand basic concepts about women. The simpler the concept, the less he understands it.

@@eb7027 i was there in 2012 and didn't have any problems, but have heard stories. I don't plan on going back.
I have been to many countries, and in Germany I was invited to meet a guy in public but then invited to come to his home. His brother was also present and I was with my wife. We drank beer and then went out to dinner. We were invited to stay the night in their home. It was a wonderful experience, and all of it was very natural. This guy is not a freak. He's just a nice guy who was scoped and robbed. If the authorities don't bust these criminals, they will destroy the tourist industry in Colombia. I don't care one way or another, because I already think Medellin has been ruined by tourism, I am just making an observation. I think this guy would be well-advised to have a travel buddy for South America.
Trust and believe, the authorities won't do anything. I think that he'll realize that as well soon enough. Most of the criminals don't get found and if so, they aren't really prosecuted either. They usually end up walking
I think there is a big difference between attitudes regarding travelling in Europe v travelling around the US and The Americas. Couch surfing is popular and inviting someone to your home who is travelling around isn't that unusual particularly if you have backpacked or travelled around yourself.

Been to medellin a couple of times, gone on some dates with dating apps. Def don't recommend dating bottom of the barrel girls that are poor and willing to rob you. Honestly, the best way though is to meet them in person and see what their life looks like on IG. If they're poor, forget it (I mean they dont have a semi decent job). Not worth the risk.
I understand why someone might think meeting at an apartment would be relatively safe here in the States. There's usually a paper trail since you need valid ID to rent an apartment, Airbnb, or most hotels, with a few exceptions. However, it seems different in some third-world countries. Even if there were a paper trail, law enforcement there doesn't seem to prioritize investigations.

His biggest mistake was traveling to a foreign country completely uninformed. I reacted to Saveh's first video right from the start and was honestly shocked that he knew so little to nothing about what could happen in Colombia. He naively jumped into a tank full of sharks as a fish and allowed himself to be blinded by the superficial impressions. I feel sorry for him, but he put himself in unnecessary danger with his naive behavior. I wish him all the best and hope that he now becomes more informed.
Last but not least, I would like to expressly say again that one should not make the mistake of punishing the whole of Colombia because of these cases. Unfortunately, you can always read in the comments that some people directly think that they are lumping all Colombians together - and boycotting the entire country. The phenomenon is not new, and the fault also can mainly be found in the naivety way of tourists. Especially those who behave disrespectfully towards the locals and their culture or arrogantly wave their dollars around.
Always remember that you have stepped out of your comfort zone and should not act like you are at home. Get to know the culture of the country, ideally learn its language, and think twice about when and where you go out for a drink with whom. Think more about your own actions, especially when traveling the world alone. There are super kind and loving people all over the world, and yet also the devil will still reach out to you. I hate victim blaming because even if the victim does something that's risky they still shouldn't get blamed. The blame should always be put on the ones who robbed him. However, I don't fully believe his remarks that he thought these girls just wanted to hang out. I like that he's sharing his story to warn others but I don't think he's being fully honest. He said he brought a bag over and the way he stated that was odd. He said he brought over speakers but I suspect he brought over an overnight bag. LOL. There are so many things that are crazy about this story and you asked great questions like about what was inside of the apartment. How were they able to do that when the phone is locked and they need a password or fingerprint to do that. Please break that down so I can be aware of my accounts and phone and bank card.
