I love how diplomatic the work colleague is.
I do not have that patience....I would just tell her you want some cake?? No...okay. Stop talking about it then lol.
And how stoic...
Very proper posh British (from an American perspective)
@@ANDJELINA Yep! Remember what a pain in the @rse Anne was on The Xmas Special. Poor Tim I would have cried but she got comeuppance.
Catherine Tate does passive-aggression brilliantly.
Yeah ikr
It ceased being passive about halfway through.
Just saying. :)
@@irrevenant3 yea
Most Brits do, it's in the blood.
@@HashimAziz1 Oh yes indeed. Also going around the houses to the line manager to complain about the Aussie going straight to the source and being accused of being confrontational
God I love how easily Tate brings to life characters I wanna smack across the face!
Please don't say that out loud anymore: men take it seriously. A woman is assaulted in her home every 10 seconds
@@janelliot5643 omg 🤦🏼♂️
@@janelliot5643 it was just a fun comment why are you taking it so seriously
you got a point there.....:-)
@@janelliot5643 actually Jan it's normally the women who are the family home abusers.
And companies wonder why people want to keep working at home.
yeah... me working from home. now
Not to mention the one who eats fish for breakfast!! Ugh
I wish I could - I've been one of the unlucky ones who has had to still go to the office :/
So true!!! I don't miss the artifical office environment at all. Office politics 🤢🤢
@@desertrose128 Wait what's wrong with that??
I would love to be friends with the poor long sufferng co-worker . She is so sweet and has the patience of a saint .
These days, she’s just an enabler, a false ally…;)
@@uptoncriddington6939If you are long time friends with a person, and continue being passive to this kind of manipulative and abusive behaviour, then you could be counted as an enabler. It is difficult to shift from the victim role and challenge them, particularly if there is a risk of losing your job. But this fictional character seems not to know her well, and so it's a different situation. She is trying to be respectful, understanding and supportive.
@@daniellamcgee4251 Unless she's just cunning! Misery loving company and all that.
@@uptoncriddington6939 The character seems to be taken off guard and is clearly uncomfortable. I don't think she is enjoying it at all. The relatableness amplified; the annoying over-the-top inappropriateness of Catherine's character is the joke. The sweet, well-meaning office lady is the opposite, to be the contrasting foil, to make it seem the most confronting, yet still just believable. But if you mean in real life, with people chosing to stay with 'friends' like that, I think it's more a case of people with low self esteem getting caught up with dominant people. People will stick with what they know, which isn't always best for them. They usually have that dynamic in their home life growing up, or as a result of an erroding and abusive adult relationship. This doesn't just apply to women. That's what makes it especially difficult to change the dynamic, or end the relationship. So, I think it's rarely as simple as 'misery loving company'.
Like the O.P. I would like the sweet office lady as a friend. But only to dominate! Bwahahaha! I just said that because you seem to view people negatively. I thought you would be more comfortable if I had an ulterior motive. ;-)
@@daniellamcgee4251 No, your ulterior motive is to beat me in the clever use of punctuation as emoticons🔥

Well done, can you explain more simple concepts for us please 🥺
Wow - I doubt if anyone else worked out what this sketch was about and why it is funny.
'they' don't continue to obsess over the cake, its just Catherine Tates character.
Catherine Tate is amazing. "...Have a guess...JUST GUESS!!"

@Thomas Meehan Edited. Guess how long it took me to correct her name? Have a guess. JUST GUESS. Bwahahaha.
Every workplace more like, the person usually comes with a shedload of personal problems and likes to take a swipe at yours.
I recently got into Doctor Who and Donna was my favorite. I need to start watching more stuff with Catherine Tate because she’s brilliant!
She was my favourite as well along with the 10th doctor. Try Much ado about nothing, the play with her and Tennant.
Do, but just skip the office US.
@@11rubina Never skip the Office. 😜

Omg there are still staff members like this!
There always will be 😆
Why wouldn’t there be?

"I'll have your cake...and eat it!" And she DID! ROFLMAO 😂😂😂👍👍👍
Nothing similar to this, but, a co-worker who is slim, absolutely no fat anywhere, told me she got a huuuuge slice of cake that another co-worker had brought. She sat down at her desk, took a look at the cake, and decided she didn't want it after all, not even a taste because it was fattening, and she didn't need to be fat. So, she threw it away. I thought, why not offer it to someone else? What a waste.
Because she didn't want to watch someone else enjoy it
She probably hated the co-worker that brought the cake .
I always hated the cake culture. You feel so pressured to join in, otherwise everyone hates on you for attempting to watch your health or keep a nice figure. The women who make an issue out of it are mainly overweight Karen’s though, who don’t want to feel bad about themselves. Food is such an issue with some people.
Throwing it was a waste, you’re right.
@@peachesandcream4897 The "we'll have cake for birthdays, anniversary and any other occasion we can think of" culture... One girl I worked with got transferred to the accounting department and on her first day, another girl came around collecting $50 (WHAT?!?) for a girl who got the good news that she is pregnant. She didn't want to participate, but didn't have the courage to say "No." At that time, we were temps making $12/hr. So she paid and asked me to come with her to have cake and stuff. That $50/person was well spent. No Costco cake (nothing wrong with that), the cake was ordered from a fancy shop and the spread was goooood. (Whole Foods deli or somewhere equally expensive) I think the accounting people were giving me the side eye while welcoming me to the feast. ;p What's that temp from another department doing here? How dare that temp invite her friend?
@@peachesandcream4897 I just say, I am not big on sweet things, same with small talk, just tell them I don't like it hahaha

some woman used to swan in and out of the place going on about the band queen
i never started hating them til i met her

So hilarious.
I love The UK Actors doing Comedies. I remember watching Benny Hill on Late Night TV and my Sister and I would fall on the floor laughing. He had such beautiful Ladies on his Show The Hills Angels one of which was Olivia Newton-John's Sister Rona who was called Olivia Neutron-Bomb. Office cruelty - even if you don't like cake! How many of us hate situations like this?
Lol, Lauren when she grows up and gets a job.
On point, it's aka Linda Dalgran!!!
I’ve seen somewhere that the office name ‘Callas & Sait’ is referring to “callous & saint”, much like the colleagues.

Okay, I'm from New York and that would never happen in my office. Straight to the point, "where did you get cake?" It wouldn't matter if you didn't work in that department, you'd run and get some! I can't speak for the women but being a guy no female colleague would ask me about her weight.

Catherine Tate in this scene reminds me of my mother
2lbs a week is really the maximum you should be losing in a healthy diet.
It depends how big you are and how much over what you need you have been eating. It's fine to lose a lot more in a week if you go from extreme over-eating to a healthy amount.
Are you running for Pope?
It's amazing how Catherine Tate can be funny and beautiful at the same time

Iy's the opposite if you work for the police. Birthdays, stupid mistakes, being late, scraping a car, falling off a bike/horse etc all incur a cake fine and everyone keeps reminding you till you pay up!
