This doesn't just apply to women. That's what makes it especially difficult to change the dynamic, or end the relationship. So, I think it's rarely as simple as 'misery loving company'. Like the O.P. She sat down at her desk, took a look at the cake, and decided she didn't want it after all, not even a taste because it was fattening, and she didn't need to be fat. So, she threw it away. I thought, why not offer it to someone else? What a waste.
I always hated the cake culture. You feel so pressured to join in, otherwise everyone hates on you for attempting to watch your health or keep a nice figure. The women who make an issue out of it are mainly overweight Karen’s though, who don’t want to feel bad about themselves. Food is such an issue with some people. Throwing it was a waste, you’re right.

She didn't want to participate, but didn't have the courage to say "No." At that time, we were temps making $12/hr. So she paid and asked me to come with her to have cake and stuff. That $50/person was well spent. No Costco cake (nothing wrong with that), the cake was ordered from a fancy shop and the spread was goooood. (Whole Foods deli or somewhere equally expensive) I think the accounting people were giving me the side eye while welcoming me to the feast. ;p What's that temp from another department doing here? How dare that temp invite her friend?

I love The UK Actors doing Comedies. I remember watching Benny Hill on Late Night TV and my Sister and I would fall on the floor laughing. He had such beautiful Ladies on his Show The Hills Angels one of which was Olivia Newton-John's Sister Rona who was called Olivia Neutron-Bomb. I also loved watching Little Britian as well and French & Saunders when they did "Help" or even an Abbaesque Group. I even get a kick when they do American Accents.

i used to work in a library in a tiny office with a collection of oddballs some woman used to swan in and out of the place going on about the band queen i never started hating them til i met her this sketch really captures that quite well
It depends how big you are and how much over what you need you have been eating. It's fine to lose a lot more in a week if you go from extreme over-eating to a healthy amount.
Iy's the opposite if you work for the police. Birthdays, stupid mistakes, being late, scraping a car, falling off a bike/horse etc all incur a cake fine and everyone keeps reminding you till you pay up!
