Good subject Steve. I’ve learnt different techniques when pricing work. It might be obvious - Go and look at garden and go with gut feeling (potential customers are telling me gardeners are quoting over the phone after looking on google earth). Always quote on paper clearly setting out what work is covered by the quote, never quote verbally. Learn to politely walk away with ‘I’m sorry it’s more work than I thought and don’t have the capacity to take it on’. When faced with the ‘Bargain Hunt viewers’ can you do it for ‘this price’ the reply is: let me digest that information and I’ll get back to you, then run! I do the ‘can you just doers’ but an a separate visit and price, that normally stops it.

You get a feeling for the warning signs. Great vid. Get yourself on the gardeners guild if you’re not on already, they’re a registry of qualified gardeners - I get a good portion of work through them and they have plenty of info regarding what to charge.

There are lots of people calling themselves gardeners however they have absolutely no qualifications that applies to RUclipsrs .
It’s the old attitude I can cut grass yes then I am a gardener lol

    The neighbour asks if.........
I was asked to go around to the neighbour of a recently quoted job to quote as price for a bit of weeding and a couple of shrubs. That's the price, if you want me call me. She calls and great I pop around to start work. Dog poo everywhere, could I take up the gravel stones and bleach them white again, fix the gate as it's only a few screws, the wind popped a fence panel out, can you put it back in. The list went on. Even bleed the radiator in the toilet. Er, no thanks. Bye. Lost the neighbour too but wasn't that bothered really.

I've had that sort of problem where I've lost one that was connected to another one. 😂 I miss working on the estate i worked on in the pasted , sometimes jo public can really mess you around. Thanks for commenting.

Yeah, there's a lot of those people around, I think they call Em. All you can eat buffet style customers. 😆 🤣 😂 it's not funny, really, though, is it? I appreciate you commenting. Thanks, Steve. When I quote hourly for work like say weeding the customer for some reason then seems to think, that I will do almost anything for £30 an hour no matter what it is especially when it comes to massive overgrown hedges 🤣 Been there done that got the T-SHIRT 🤣
      All the best

Great lil video there Steve. Insightful. I hate it when you’re dealing with more than one “boss” I.e customer at once.. That is a red flag for sure.. “me and a neighbour..” it’s alarm bells 😂 I like to know who I’m dealing with and discuss money etc with that individual person, not deals here and there between neighbours and friends etc also I prefer to give them prices by way of a written down estimate versus blurting it out in person, I used to feel awkward but I’ve got my sales pitch down now.. I’ll say “I’ll get something over to you in writing”.

    • @StephenCheeseGardenServices
      @StephenCheeseGardenServices  5 дней назад

That's where I'm at mate. I always get it in writing in case they don't pay. And then you've got something in writing that says they said XY and Z for this price just to cover myself. Otherwise, you end up looking like a bit of a Wally. If you don't get paid on time.
Thanks for coming. I really appreciate it
      Steve

@StephenCheeseGardenServices Only somewhat related but wanted to share with you and others as thought it'd give you a chuckle.. I had a woman recently after I sent her an invoice with the stipulation 'due immediately' (only a small amount) for work I'd done that day, she replied 2 days later having paid saying "I think it is unreasonable for you to expect to be paid within 24 hours.." 🤣 that's quite disrespectful really. Her Waitrose daily shop they expect payment at the till..🙄 and the difference is..?

@neilhatton6018 oh, dear, makes me sick. It's probably because where gardeners and anyone can do gardening, so therefore it's not valued. I hope this year is going to be okay for us gardeners. Thanks for sharing 🙏 steve

Carrot and stick jobs I tend to now just immediately say sorry job isnt for me and i go.
The can you just do this people i say it needs to be quoted for and agreed unless it literally is a five minute job.
Parking issues I'd drive off from.
If someone is on a call like that i may have patience, on second call id have driven off

I didn't want to be rude on that day , Because I am looking for more work , I do regret driving all the way out to Blandford for nothing , Waste of a day ,We try and get potential clients from further a field to send us pictures before deciding whether to quote for the work or not , that's worked well.
      Thanks for commenting
