We need more: the configuration, undervolting, software like playnite to havce everything in the same spot and more importantly, wake up by bluetooth using a controller.
Literally this was my first thought. I’m in the process of trying different OS options, Linux distros vs Windows with Atlas and the one thing im trying to settle on is frontend and wake up with controller
Built my HTPC in this case last year using a 7600X and an XFX RX 6950 XT (I had to mod the shell to fit it. Also had to remove the two case fans in the GPU well). It's running Arch Linux and using the same script SteamOS uses to boot directly into GameScope for big picture mode on system start so I get a full-fledged Console-like desktop for singleplayer and couch-coop 4K gaming.
@@Jmcinally94 def gets toasty up in the low 80s on full load with the case in vertical orientation. It'll be my QuakeCon LAN PC this year, so we'll see how it fairs in a hot and clustered environment this fall 😆

If I were to refer to anything relating to Steam Machines it would basically be the out of service office tiny mini micro PCs that pop up on eBay all the time. Something cheap enough to introduce someone to PC gaming and give them the opportunity to feel it out without wasting too much money. I know for me and others, the main hate we all had for the Steam Machine was that they were priced too much new, were very weak, and everyone we knew interested in buying one would use their experience as ammunition on why PC gaming was inferior or too expensive for what it was.
I made almost an identical build concept last year. Same case but black, Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon 6600 (don't mind upscaling games on my TV), 980 Pro 2TB, etc. I installed ChimeraOS on it as it at least then seemed to be the best SteamOS like distro for HTPC use. Works like a charm. I have to sell it before it's worth nothing, but talk about a specific case use scenario machine. ChimeraOS was amazing too. FSR on everything machine wide if needed, individual settings for setups unncessary, etc. Great video.
Hey that's awesome. you're doing like valve or whatever intended: putting the machine in the living room. I don't get all the folks out there building "steam machines" or whatever and plugging kb+m into them. yikes
It’s gonna be a hard time for the Linux part with a nvidia GPU… (nvidia is pretty lazy at updating their pilots for the « pinguin os » 😢). Amd is a better choice if you want Linux distribution 👍 (actually: maybe in a near future Nvidia gonna wake up ˆˆ)
@@MrBananaX2000 I heard there are some distros like Bazzite that minimizes the problems around Nvidia and Linux... but in the end we still need to rely on Nvidia's good will around it, wich we already know isn't very good. It's possible? Yes. But the ideal would still have an AMD graphics card on the build.
The major flaw with this friggin' case is laying it down at the horizontal orientation and having your CPU/PS fans blowing down. @@Ren-bj4xm That's a good point, but X3D CPUs in particular don't need as much raw power since they benefit greatly from their 3D cache. You'll still have eight cores, which could help a bit vs the 6-core 7600 if you use this PC to multitask. Part of the problem is their integrated heat spreader, which was made detrimentally thick to ensure compatibility with AM4 coolers. If needed, you could modify or remove it to further improve thermals. Ryzen 7000 CPUs have really aggressive default PBO settings, but they really don't need that much power to achieve most of their performance. Those two problems together are the real reason why Ryzen 7000 CPUs have a reputation for running hot, even though they can actually be efficient. It's a shame the uploader didn't do any benchmarks so we could see how performance is affected.
I loved the node 202, but the ridge is even nicer looking, and it supports triple slot cards, which is great cause I can save money by dropping in my current 2080 super when I upgrade my main pc's gpu. Probably will also use my ryzen 7 3700x I have already. Just need a new mobo and cooler. But I also gotta upgrade my main pc to am5. But having a living room pc will be so nice.
-1 for the early pseudo-Gen4 SSD. 5000MB/s is from the early days of slow memory controllers. The Crucial T500 is $30 more for 50% more speed. You gotta read the specs before just clicking on the cheapest drive a website recommends.
Valve should use the Steam Deck popularity as the jumping stone for a REAL Steam Machine. The biggest drawbacks will still be the Linux drivers for the components, though. I bet AMD will be willing to work with Valve on this one.
VRAM wise, only 4070ti super and above pair with at least 16 GB VRAM. Any below that really not recommended for 4K gaming. And its better if you just wait for 5080/5090 only you decide which models is your next upgrade. For form factor wise, common 4080 and 4090 are pretty overkilled. Smaller form factor unless you look for new series like Asus ProArt/MSI Expert or some lowest tier 4080(s)/4090 models can have around 3 slots with reasonable length.
For anyone who does a similar build in the future, some tips from what I've learned from doing a build in the same case: -Consider the Ryzen 5 7600 for the CPU, runs cooler and you're really not sacrificing gaming performance. You can put more money into your graphics card. -For the Noctua cooler, flip the direction of the fan. I don't know enough to explain why, but I get cooler temps this way when I benchmark it. -Replace the stock case fans with Noctua fans. I used the chromax NF-F12 fans. Higher performance and you really need all the cooling help you can get. -Stick with an NVME SSD, will help keep space open in the case and keep things cool. less cables. You get the idea. Easier to manage and less to organize.
What about temperatures and air flow?....I was intentioned to build a pc with this case, but I got so many warnings about it, at hte end I did an amazing total white build using the "fractal mini pop air" as case, of crz my build is not small and consolized like yours but I live in a very hot side of italy so for me its crucial to have a good airflow.

Amazing build man. I'm building a very similar system for an upcoming video
oh hi neil
I want a very similar build, but with an rx7900xtx, specifically my current sapphire pulse one, would this be a good pick? The case and cpu I mean.
Does this setup allow for power on/off from the controller?
5:20 iam not really comfortable with that cable bend once in the case
I did exact config except I went with the Ventus 2x because I’m looking at custom case to make the build smaller
Would that cpu thermal throttle with that cpu cooler?
That chip run hot and that NH-L12s is inadequate to tame it. It can hit 100c underload if you're not undervolt it.
You can put a temperature limit for PBO in the BIOS settings. Once you do that, it will be fine.
