Tim Silva Tim, you're such a wonderful part of our community, our safari family! ❤ Thank you for giving out the important information for further education and enjoyment! I've been hooked on these live drives for a little over a year now, and I'm learning more everyday! And it's as exciting today as it was the very first time I watched! Take care, dear friend!
I love how adult elephants feel so wise, elegant and majestic in thier presence, and by contrast their babies are so silly and playful and cute. My favorite wild animal.
Beautifully written! I agree and they are my favorite too. At the St Louis zoo they have a huge pool and you can watch them swim. It was wonderful to see
I'm 71 and when I was around 8 I was able to ride an elephant at the St. Louis Zoo. Through my life I thought about how neat that was. Then I began to think about this magnificent animal walking in circles with kids on top of them. I'm so glad there have been rescues and I know they don't have animal shows any longer there. It makes me sad that I thought how much fun the shows were watching the trained monkeys, etc. I just didn't know how sad they must have been. Thank you to all who rescue and support the freedom of these beautiful animals.
Yes it is sad.people sadly still ride horses and donkeys..etc.. maybe one day we will see animals actually being animals and doing what they're intended for...which is living a free life.❤️❤️
Not all animals in human care, and used for food, labor, entertainment and as pets.. ..are "unhappy". Most animals in captive management are content happy and healthy. There's an interesting perspective presented in Yann Martel's "Life of Pi" In chapter 4 he discusses how animals in a [good, ethical] zoo are safer, happier, healthier and longer lived than their counterparts in the wild. Life in compressed territories in captive management, is much more at ease for the animals, than having to suffer the cruelties of nature. (hunting or starving or being the prey, disease, weather, predators, maintaining territory etc etc)
I get a laugh at how he was chuckling at the baby's remarkable precociousness and then mom decided she would let her presence be known and the mood changed.
ha ha.. Yeah, my mood would surely change too & in a split-second!! Could you imagine an upset mother trying to charge you? They are Sooo Protective w/Their Young, How Sweet & Loving!!
YOU got to remember who needs it and is doing the killing and for whom . Thousands of elephants and rhinos have already died since, especially during African slavery when thousands of black people were enslaved and used as mules to carry IVORY to the east coast of AFRICA to MOMBASA, ZANZIBAR and SULIMANI. IVORY was never a thing for AFRICANS since it was of no value.
I can see him all grown up charging at these jeeps they wouldn't be laughing that's for sure. I wouldn't be I'd be all wet.because it would scare me so I'd pee all over my self. I'd more and likely scream too. Knowing me. But they are so beautiful I seen elephants up close and even rode on one but they were tame ones. Well as tame as they could be. It is a rough ride on an elephant that's for sure. Wouldn't want to ride one no more then I did. But I love these big animals the babies are so cute to watch. To bad they get killed for a tooth growing out of there face. Pounchers should be hung but so should the buyers of Ivory. Do them both would stop the killing of these animals. Well it would help stop it.
This has to be the best animal video that I've ever seen! At the start of the video when the little guy was nearest the vehicle looking like he wanted to play and the gentleman laughed and said "this is too wonderful for words" well it was actually quite touching and amusing! The gentlemans amazement and sheer joy was as genuine as I've ever seen or heard! You could tell straight away that this baby Elephant is a male, such a young one but already behaving like a Bull Elephant with his mock charges and seemingly unafraid! Absolutely, unequivocally the most adorable thing that I've ever seen! As long as I live I will never forget this!!! Thank you so much! This has made my day, week, month, year, decade!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
When the babies push their faces into the soil they are just copying the males that do this when they come into musth. Researchers say during musth they get swelling of the temporal glands that presses on the elephants eyes and can cause acute pain, so the elephants try to counteract this pain by digging their tusks into the ground. Others that have observed this say it is a display of aggression, a mock killing, showing what the elephant would do to another. So again while in musth usually and by the males playing. Baby is copying what he has been shown, he just doesn't realize he needs some tusks. lol
Since babies travel in the herds where all the adults are female, I kinda doubt this behavior is copied from adult males in musth. Seems like it's probably more of an instinctual mock killing thing.
Thank you for the information about being in musth. That's interesting. It almost looks like a threat to topple the jeep. He's a little cutie...whatever he's doing! 😄
Whenever I'm feeling sad, lonely or just blue, I watch this post to remind me of how God's creatures are such a blessing! Thank you! Much love & prayers from Chicago, Illinois. USA.
Most elephants are circumcised and the mother usually swallows the forskin of the young ones after she uses her horn to snip off the access skin for the private parts of there younger ones! ✂️ !! Incase no one knew that! Then there you go! Learn something new every day!! ✂️✂️✂️✂️
Sweet to see the little one building his confidence, mom knows he's only practising/playing, hence the reason she didn't get too involved. Lovely creatures, and bravo for being so calm in the presence of giants.
That was the cutest video I have seen in a long time. The little guy trying to charge your Jeep! I have never seen a baby elephant suckle his mom, that was beautiful. Thank you so much for taking the time to stay there so we could watch!
James is so good at describing the situations, he is trying his best to let us feel as he is feeling, and me I feel like I'm just with him on the car. Great James Hendry!
LOL, the funniest part was your cameraman Bryan telling you "too close", and James says " He is too close for what?" turns and looks and says "Oh", hahahahahahahahaha!!
It's SO interesting that elephants have only 2 breasts below her front legs or the top of her chest if you will, just like us!!! Most udders like cows and sheep have are closest to the back legs so I find it fascinating.
That was absolutely wonderful. The combination of rare close up nursing footage with the playfulness of the baby (loved the hiding behind the bush) and James Hendrys brilliant chat and infectious chuckling makes this so precious. Well done to all, animal and human!
curious about that truck. watched by the sister in the distance. when mama came he ran toher. JUST like a human child who is not supposed to do somethng and caught in the act.....so cute....love them
Nicely and calmly conducted you guys. Also, only one vehicle. What a relief. Usually, with similar clips one hears multiple motors running and people gabbing as i they're at the mall. Thanks for being professional.
I can't stand it; everytime James laughs I fall apart! When the baby ellie mock charges & runs behind the bush, James's laughter absolutely tickles me and I have to laugh, too! I've watched this video a few times...a real safariLIVE classic!
I've seen this so many times, it is just so cute, it puts a big smile on my face every time I see it. James is one of my all time favorite guides he always has something funny going on, and so knowledgeable. Hello! To all my safari live friends! God bless all!
Thank you for sharing this with us. Absolutely breathtaking. I just loved both little guys’ faces as they contemplate just how far they can push the situation. A rare sight indeed.
Baby elephants calf's drink 50/litres of milk a day.... Such a beautiful video, looks like this bull calf is gonna be a heard leader some day, his whole character, the way he's mock charging shows it all. Loved watch his every move. I love these gentle giants of earth :)

That is interesting do elephants have multiples often. Maybe that's why only 2 because it's rare for them to have twins or multiples. Just a guess.
