"This Is CAPOEIRA" I went into the video expecting to be educated.
I left the video going, "That was the prettiest fight I've ever seen."
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that was developed by slaves in Brazil during the 16th Century. When the Portuguese got into the slave trade, a lot of slaves were sent to Brazil. Brazil, at the time, had very strict laws against slaves having weapons or learning to fight. So they developed a martial art they could practice without anyone knowing they were doing it. They did this by disguising it as a dance. It's practice was divided into two aspects; dancing, and combat. What you see here is the dancing aspect. They could do this to familiarize themselves with the fundamental movements of it's techniques. Much in the same way Tai Chi practitioners have both solo movements to familiarize themselves with the form, and then fast work for combat. Except in Capoeira, the practice movements were disguised in such a way that slave masters would walk by and think that the slaves were just dancing rather than preparing for an escape.
If you want to study it as a martial art, though, make sure you have a good teacher. It's kinda like how even though Aikido can be very useful, you have a lot of teachers who have only ever done the softwork. "Hey, grab my wrist, err... my other wrist." It's the same thing with Capoeira. It can be very useful, but a lot of teachers claim to teach the combat, but have only ever done the dance work. Of course, that's not bad if you just want to learn it as a dance. People learn it for both reasons.
your fam homeless sam yea but used in street fights or against other martial arts its deadly
@@maxzhao8331 i do martial arts, u dont use the entire capoeira style, u sneak it in, lets say ur in a muay thay fighting stance, then you dodge a jab and proceed to do full backwards roundhouse kick to the head all in one movement
@@maxzhao8331 havent fought or sparred in a long time, gyms completely closed down here in mexico when covid started
Sim.
This is why I like practicing Capoeira. I love the beautiful African expression of the flow. The sense of community I feel in the roda is unlike anything. Even though I feel that it is less functional than most martial arts, I believe it is the most aesthetically pleasing.
You could be surprised how functional it can be 😉
This is historically important because it was once outlawed in Brazil as a way to supress Afro-nationalism in the country
Tunago what, where they trying to make footloose real?
@@TheSeanoops nah Brazil said martial arts is outlawed cause we don't want you to revolt then they basically said nah fam we dancing
@@adolfo8797 and thats how
Jesus was born
@@adolfo8797 😂
😮 wow dude! That's fukng incredible!
Capoeira was an inspiration to the people who started b-boying (break dancing) in New York.
huh???
You’re an idiot.
On google it says it from Brazil
I just started learning Capoeira and I CNAT WAIT until I become a master
Would be good to know more about that and if there is any evidence of it. I know a few Bahian masters were in New York maybe it was them. Jelon Vieira was there I think in mid 70's - let me know if you find anything more I'm very interested. Master Fantasma
NASA should send capoeira fighters to zero-gravity
They don't really do much gravity on the ground either...
In traditional capoeira, music is a MAJOR aspect of it.
True capoeiristas have deep respect for capoeira music.
You cant even hear the berimbau in this song.
Just like all buzzfeed videos, this is a joke.
@@Gabriel-px8cv Não.
Its the name of a fighting/dance style created in Brazil. You see it in quiet a few tournaments with mixed martial arts and many moves are based on this fighting style that balances agility and fineness to its moves. Also, video game characters have fighting styles based on Capoeira games like Tekken (Eddy Gordo /Tiger and Christi) and Sheva Alomar from Resident Evil 5.Brazil is one of the most racially diverse countries in South America with people of Portuguese / Black / and Hispanic decent.
Fucking Eddie Gordo, man...
Burning Panda MilkShake HD FROM TEKKEN
Facts!
This movements in this video are straight up Capoeira regional, which is only a part of the Capoeira being practiced today. In addition, the music was not the focus of the video at all. Music is as important as the movements in Capoeira. No music, no Capoeira.
I absolutely love this video! I've been practicing Capoeira for 5 years now, and these guys are talented! I've seen some talented ladies out there as well! Axé!
ISSO É O QUE PODE SE DIZER DE MANJAR DOS PARANAUÊ
just be clear this is one type of capoeira the contemporary capoeira and there´s tha capoeira regional wich it´s more concentrate in the fight the movement close game and there´s tha angola wich has origins form the slaves and it´s slow
ahh yes
Yup,that exactly what you plagiarized from Wikipedia.
... Until now, I thought this was made up for Bob's Burgers :/ To anyone who practices this: Sorry!
CopperBoom42 try it out
Try it out
Try it and you will understand how important and real it is
Same here lol!!
The most underrated sport imo but as a capoeirista im really proud to be a part of it :)
I have been capoeira for almost a year and i am 13, Its really fun and i enjoy it a lot but i dont have much confidence so its hard to get me in the roda. Hopefully i learn to open up a bit more :)
How did it go?
you legal now?
@@Thixico Crass.
wow this comment is old. how is capoeira going for you?
Loads of awesome Capoeira and different styles from many amazing groups around the world but one thing will never change and that Capoeira is an AFRO Brazilian art form. You guys have displayed that beautifully in this excellent video. My respect and awe for y’all!
I had a capoeira training session at school camp... ahh, childhood memories...
WOW!!!! Amazing!!!!!!!
You've got the best moves! I am clapping for the ones that filmed!
And now I know, dreadlocks are for stability. It's like a cat's tail ^_^
I always wanted to learn how to do capoeira. A mix between martial arts and dancing sounds completely badass. I wish there were classes for the martial arts I could take....
we used to do capoeira in my primary school
That is some kick ass primary school haha.wish I had that! XD
I also practiced at school near my 6 to 9 years old, but today I can't even roll without hurting my back😅
This is Eddy Gordo
This is one of the kung fu styles in One Finger Death Punch where you get an afro.
Me as a capoeirista appreciate it and this is coooolll video!!!
A very nice capoeira video with an awesome filming and editing, music is also great !
cheers !

Tekken 5 anyone??
Tekken 2
I learned this from Bob's Burgers. :D
DIYnellie I’m watching that episode right now.
Brazil!
This is just awesome...
i can only wish to be able to do half the stuff in the video; don't know why people dislike this, i enjoyed it.
Capoeira 101: NEVER tell a Professor(a)/Mestre/Mestra of Capoeira that Capoeira is a dance if you do not wish to get kicked. No joke.
You really said that to a Mestre, ouch!
Capoeira is not a dance, it's a fighting style '-'
it was originated from a dance (N'golo, or zebra dance) so it is kinda like a dance if you think about it :)
Koushique Ahmed It was N'golo, or zebra dance, now it's capoeira, a fighting style, but i get what you are trying to say...
It is a mixture because it was originally practiced by slaves in brasil. They needed a way to hide the fact that they were practicing fighting so they disguised it as a dance.
FallowFern
the dancing asoect wasnt added until later during slavery capoeira was a fighting style before slavery
Koushique Ahmed
the martial art that it originated from didnt start out as a dance the zebra dance aspect of it was a smoke screen for slave masters the fighting itself was not meant to look like a dance
very nice video! Love it! Parabens!
Very cool! You guys are in good shape!
*cough* tekken 3 eddy?
Tiger/Eddie from Tekken.
Yes just yes.
P.S it's eddy sorry :P
This is the best thing anyone has ever said.....EVER.
Nice video, by coincidence you posted this on the day of the Independence of Brazil! :D
Capoeira is beautiful but for personal defense nah especially nowadays that everyone now even a bit another martial arts I mean Brazilian jiu jitsu is the best and capoeira is beautiful but no more then that if you want just practice something that's is the art but self defense I don't think so and this come from one Brazilian
My Capoeira mestre is Brazilian and he and many other mestres I know would disagree. I've been doing Capoeira for a decade and I also cross train Muay Thai and I've caught some guys off guard in the past during sparring.
I am a Verde Crua in capoeira and have gotten into a fight with a boxer, I find capoeira very useful
jonas schmitz you clearly dont understand the whole idea of martial arts then. Maybe you need to spend more time learning about capoeira.
no, THIS IS PATRICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was awesome!
I have been wanting to do this forever!!!!!!!
And I never heard of someone fighting capoeira :P
you know you play too much video games when you see this capoeira and think: World of Warcraft troll dance!
Oooooaa hoaaa sometimes I gotta a good feeling, this video makes me feel better .
This is so cool!
Bobs burgers
Oh come on! It has been tested in a lab that capoeira is the weakest, least stable martial art, if I was to poke one of them in mid-air, I would strike them out of balance and into breaking their necks and dying, capoeira has more potential to kill you than getting hit in the face. Have a nice dancing around doing nothing of any practical use, capoeira dancers.
confused as to who you're talking to and why you decided this was the place for it...the video is literally just showing people doing capoeira...
***** Then explain how the Brazilian slaves who developed it were able to get away from the Portuguese military. There are actual reports from Portuguese dragoons(cavalry) that it'd take more than one of them, as in more than one guy on horseback, to catch one capoeirista.
excuse me mister know-it-all. I have been doing capoiera for NINE YEARS, in the 9 years i have never seen anyone get hurt and as they said in the video, capoeira IS a martial art but it has its dancing parts, acrobatic parts, combat parts and music parts. My first ever class in capoeira, the first thing they taught us is how to defend yourself, cuz you can get badly hurt. I think you had your eyes closed for half of the video cuz don't you see all the kicks? So go poke someone else.
Bet you will say that anywhere but in a rhoda keyboard commando
samra rochdi really? you've been doing capoeira for nine years and you've never seen anyone get hurt? now when doing mortals? a martello or compasso with a late esquiva? falling when you try handstands or aú de frente? slipping? none at all?
You really won't know when an actual"hit" is coming..deadly. great vid.
Parabéns Pelo video ,Jogam Bem a Nossa Arte
! Salve Capoeira !
Beautiful Video!!!
Axe camarada
This is ART!

Great video, This makes me miss Brazil
I practice capoeira too! Liked this video
wow , that was awesome!
Tried this at camp, and it was fun. :) it's dance plus martial arts
If the demo at the clubs fair was this cool I might have joined!
El mejor video que visto
Capoeira looks so awesome O:
That's cool. The moves involve a lot of jumping, high kicking and cartwheeling
That was sick! Those dudes have serious skills!
the motives look flowing. cool
I sincerely enjoyed this...
Brasil never was perfect but... That's my land's heart! Wonderful what you can find..
I understand this was shot with the EasyGimbal and a GoPro Hero3. Very nice work. Great video and exciting action!
There so majestic
Another little fact, the original Japanese name for the Pokemon Hitmontop was 'Kapoerer', named after this dance.
They are good!
This looks exactly like a fight situation with a crowd were they keep pushing themselves and insult each other but never actually fight xd
I LOVE THIS and first saw it in tekken
Brasil no youtube porra! Adoro
Beautiful art.
this is pretty cool!
so cool!!!
Lindo este vídeo, parabéns! (beautiful video, congratulations!)
This is really cool. They never or barely touch, yet it is a martial art ^^
I'm impressed.
Well respected! Nice!
when i was younger , i had some lessons in this. now i can not do it any more , but it was a lot of fun when i was younger!
Epic, I wanna learn that too
Great to see our EasyGimbal in Action, on the first real world project.
Thanks BuzzFeed!
That is awesome
I'm brazilian. I like the way you talk about us.
Amazing, I wanna learn capoeira!
Melhor seus paranaue ta em dia fera
Epic!
Everyone seems to be angry and fighting.... and I'm over here like... that video was cool! I wish I could do that
I do love Cpoeira
That's dope!
Goodness, I miss this so much.
This is why I love training capoeria
It's a thing of beauty.
Shout out to Alfred Kendrick: the huge dude with long dreads in the video. Way to go!
my social studies teacher's husband in high school did the MoCap for Eddie Gordo and every now and then he would come in and do demonstrations for us :)
I did capoeira for 4 years, I still like it a lot
Best!
I tried this once ... About two months ago. I suck at it...but, I did know what it was before I saw this video. And I feel cool for trying something new.
