"I have Tarrasque you something about your overpowered spell."
Low-light vision and flanking? That's a 3.5 DM.
The real kicker was that this was a pay to play game. If you're charging me money, then I do expect that you know the rules and I expect you to have decent mastery at the craft. I get it. It's a skill that needs to be honed and I get that people need to make a living, but you can start with a home game in your free time just like the rest of us.
Sounds like a nightmare. I play to have fun with my friends. Doing it as a job would ruin it for me.
Yeah DM owes them a refund when he busts out the Tarrasque on a 3rd level party. This DM sounds like he'd be questionably qualified to run a free game, him charging for that is a total joke.
Hence why I prefer point buy over rolling for stats.
I don't use rolling because then there aren't any issues about rolling really high or lowm
Point Buy > Standard Array > Rolling. Point Buy will always be my favorite. For me, I _always_ delegate the 27 points evenly, essentially making my character a blank slate with a (marginally) beefed-up Commoner stat block; before bonuses, their highest and lowest base stat is 12, with three points still left over that I usually don't use.
Loved my twilight cleric, but boy, did my DM upgrade the difficulty against our group. Great campaign that we barely survived!
It is such a fun subclass. I loved playing it too!:D
When I started using twilight sanctuary more often, the enemies miraculously were more often more intelligent creatures that would target me, or would put up some kind of barrier to block my ability. That was my que to use it more sparingly or face consistently tougher enemies.
The best stats I ever rolled right in front of everyone at the table is 18.18.18.17.16.16.back in 2e
It can happen. I’ve seen similar. It sucks for everyone else
Did the Cleric yell "Solar flare!" when the used it?
No verbal component lmao
@@urinalpatty5386 True, but it is basically a DBZ move.
The best rolls i had was two 18s , one 16 , one 15 , one 13 & a one 9.
14:40 Having them roll on the Long Term Madness table proves that the DM has knowledge of D&D 5e rules and that OP is just bitter at their DM. Not a lot of players or DMs even know about the Short Term and Long Term Madness tables.
Honestly, an at will or bonus action cantrip would be cool, but the at will would have to be a d4 action, and the bonus action one would have to be something like "prevent all healing to target if target fails con save" or something.
But the free'er the cantrip is the less it needs to do.
i had a character with a 20, a 14, a 13, and 3 16's after racials with 24d6 and another character with 18, 18, 14, 14, 14, 14 after racials under 24d6. both used 24d6 and the half elf tashased stat array. those were legit stat arrays.
Public games in stores are mostly homes of local rejects ( Don't know rules , cheaters , trolls , spotlight hogs , & rules lawyers ).
How much to buy the infernal light cantrip for all my characters as a dndbeyond microtransaction? Perhaps it comes as a bonus with the season pass? Asking for a friend...
That was the pool of radiance series of games by SSI, Pool of radiance (~1988), Curse of the silver bonds (~1989), Secret of the silver blades (~1990), And Pools of darkness (~1991).
The DM should not have charged.
Not the worst horror story out there, but recently I had joined a Cyberpunk Red game online and I wanted so badly to play a rockerboy. The DM made us roll for our backstory. As a result, my "rockerboy" ended up being a comedian. I left the game after 2 sessions.
That's a cool concept for if you didn't have a character in mind, but it really sucks if you want to play something specific and don't get to though.
As a DM there are a few rolls in my games that I must personally see. Stat Rolls, and HP rolls. Any other roll in my games must be observed by at least 1 other player or it has to be re-rolled period. Also, we have the rule if the dice fall on the floor, it's an automatic reroll. This system has worked really well.
A cantrip that can be cast at will that is stronger than most spells in the game? Seems legit.
Secrets of the Silver Blades ... that was an assault from deepest memories ...
My brother in gold boxes, we are as one!
3:52 Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale etc
In defense of their ability scores, I randomly rolled six times a few nights ago just to see what I would get (roll 4d6, remove lowest number):
11/13/15/16/18/18!!
Squeaky is precious.
"DM introsuces a homebrew that gives advantage when we gang up on a monster"
...You mean the _flanking_ rules?
3d6 eat em, in order. That’s how you deal with a power gamer.
meow, meow kitty. tell your human hi.
Baulders gate 1-2 had that reroll stats
I gave players a record card with lost of homebrews lore and mechanic wise more lore than mechanics but was upfront
Twilight Domain is strong but not unstoppable. played with one in a 2 year campaign.
What sucks here is that I’ve heard so many wholesome stories (and had the experience myself) of a bunch of friends who don’t know the rules opening the starter set and kind of winging it. There’s plenty of stuff that’s nuts (in my first game we misread the monk rules and our friends monk wound up with such an insane speed by the end) but to then have it perverted by a half ass DM and malicious player is so crap.
I feel like any paid game should've had some more structure to it lol
I'd never pay to play, but if I did, I'd want my moneys worth, and a DM that barely knows the rules and lets someone run a character like that is not it lol
I’ve paid to play in one campaign and I asked for donations in a campaign that I ran. Both of them were at local gaming stores and the money went entirely to the store and didn’t go to the DM. I’m fine with that because we need a place to play and paying $5 for a public place to play is fine with me.
@@tscoff yeah, I'd pay if it went to the store
I was picturing the GM getting paid for being such a crap at it 😂
the Problem isn't Variant human or twilight cleric. the Problem is the cantrip that effectively duplicates the more annoying part of the channel divinity. which is the strongest combat channel divinity in the game
Learning the rules is meta-gaming.
Power gamers in that kind of game usually just want to rip through combat to get back to roleplay.
My husband rolls super high all the time. Even if you watch him. ... I always have him roll my stats...
dndbeyond ought to make it really easy to distinguish homebrew stuff from official stuff. Right now, there's not an easy way to do that at all.
Agreed!
One of my players have aded homebrew backrounds and spells to his D&D Beyond profile and because how content sharing works 3 players have aded stuff that were homebrew to their character sheets without realising it and asking if it is allowed. Luckly nothing that is stronger than offical options, it just weird when I tell them that it is homebrew.
Vampire masquirade system is light ones u wrap head around dice pools no special rules just dice pools
To be fair im all for showing a high level monster or enemy at low level as a tease of a big bad or later boss forshadowing and such
Technicaly is low light vision picth darkness becomes dim and dim becoems light but that wouldnt stop u seing at night
Why was this clearly bunk spell a Dex save? I could be wrong but afflicting Blindness or Deafness type debuffs are Con save. I would have left that table after that spell since this is obviously the Twilight Cleric show. Im also curious why this OP spell? How does it even relate to the Twilight Domain?
Maybe it's supposed to be the opposite if the channel divinity dim light thing twilights can do
/shrug
8:16 a Light cleric has a ability that does that.
Must be nice to be able to trust your players. My players love to just read half of a rule; the half that benefits them. Oops, guess they just missed the cost or negative side.
I love ALL the DM Lair videos!!!! ❤
I've rolled stats for 8 or so characters and only hit an 18 twice. They were not on the same character.
Why would anyone roll stats? Point buy or standard distribution.
So you're saying "they have to see," right?
Just to be clear
I legit rolled stats like that once, rolled in the open and everything. It was the worst character to actually play because she was too good.
Baldurs gate one and two
4d6 reroll 1 and 2
I cast “Win” it is a cantrip, and makes the DM do whatever I want them to…… gurgling from the stroke induced by another story of people playing make believe and saying it’s dnd..
Guy I used to play with, has high stats and claims no cheating. Has video to prove it. Well, he also rolls up characters 6 times a day…
only "cheating" i've ever done.. i've added a set of thieves tools, and blank notebook to my character. added the notebook because i was using a strixhaven student background so naturally i should have a notebook for classwork. added the thieves tools because i had proficiency in them but didnt get to start with them. different character i gave a book of poetry to. and, i guess the biggest thing is we roll 2d6+6 for stats and i tend to flip 1s on the die to something else at random. i dont choose the number i flip it to and will record any rolls of 2 or higher.. current character ended up getting a 10 by me flipping so its not me trying to be overpowered.. i just dont like stats below 10.
3:43 ‘No one gets that lucky’
My very first character, Nakato Amore, has entered the chat
So this was in a game with a paid DM who didn’t want to learn the rules…
Why are your players: a) dropping darkness on the PARTY instead of on the ENEMIES? and b) why does it make a difference? A creature has disadvantage if it cannot see its target....BUT it has advantage if the target cannot see it, causing neither advantage nor disadvantage to apply! The only thing this now affects is any spells that REQUIRE seeing the target, which can be worked around. I have zero idea why you would nerf warlocks by not allowing them to use this ability.
Most homebrew is garbage.
In your story about Gary-con you forbid a player from using something in the rules to specifically stop them from screwing up your story? That's pretty crappy, man. It's a low level invocation. If something that low level comprises your game for a character YOU WROTE then perhaps it could do with some more work so your players can use their low level features or do not include warlock. Taking away base features isn't cool.
