Basically, all Slavic languages are very similar. For example, Serbs may not understand a lot of Polish phrases, but surely there are very much similar words in both of those languages. I am also Serbian native speaker, and I can understand about 70% of Bulgarian, 90% of Macedonian, 50% of Russian etc. Slavic languages are very beautiful. Slavic speaking territory covers a half of Europe, there should be more attention on them.

Militarily it makes sense but to ally with an anti Christian state concerns me. I get Russia cannot do it alone though. The entente did actually have a small involvement called the polar bear expedition with American, British and French soldiers but the troops were just so miserable and undersupplied and even began to get sympathies to the Bolsheviks so they had to be called back. My great granduncle bought a ticket from the black market to have a day off of work during the late 30’s and he was also sent to a prison camp in Siberia and got killed after a tree fell on him. I have some russians in my family who have nothing against stalin, my grandfather on my mom’s side was a WW2 red army veteran and got captured in a nazi concentration camp (maunthausen) he loved Stalin. So it’s like half and half in my family my dad doesn’t like Stalin at all. My whole family misses the Soviet Union though.

At least after 1942, absolute most of the soviet soldiers fought the nazis not because they were forced to do so, or because they loved Stalin much (but sure, most of them did, he was one of the symbols of their country from propaganda). They knew what the nazis did on their occupied land, and they wanted revenge. Another thing we need to understand is that they fought for their land, their families and Stalin (as the great father), and not for communism. In fact, communist propaganda was weakened since 1941, because the authorities wanted to appeal to all kinds of people after the summer catastrophe and turn the rise of nationalist movements across Europe (in Baltic states, Ukraine, Belarus, etc.) to their side. Even many churches were open during the war.
Your family will never admit it to you, but even if they didn't do anything to civilians while in the red army, their comrades did and your family did nothing to stop it. Just because you fought the Germans doesn't make you the good guys by default. The USSR killed more people than Nazi Germany. Stalin built gulags for anyone who disagreed with him. The USSR put people in space through cruel testing and disregard for human life, that's why they did it first.

My great granduncle bought a ticket from the black market to have a day off of work during the late 30’s and he was also sent to a prison camp in Siberia and got killed after a tree fell on him. I have some russians in my family who have nothing against stalin, my grandfather on my mom’s side was a WW2 red army veteran and got captured in a nazi concentration camp (maunthausen) he loved Stalin. So it’s like half and half in my family my dad doesn’t like Stalin at all. My whole family misses the Soviet Union though.

Damn, that sounds so much better than the soviet version. I am kinda starting to be ashamed of the fact that I was kind of proud of the soviet history, but then I found out they hated christians and forced us into atheism. But still, I am proud that my family fought in the second world war since I know they didn't do anything bad towards civilians.

They knew what the nazis did on their occupied land, and they wanted revenge. Another thing we need to understand is that they fought for their land, their families and Stalin (as the great father), and not for communism. In fact, communist propaganda was weakened since 1941, because the authorities wanted to appeal to all kinds of people after the summer catastrophe and turn the rise of nationalist movements across Europe (in Baltic states, Ukraine, Belarus, etc.) to their side. Even many churches were open during the war.

Just because you fought the Germans doesn't make you the good guys by default. The USSR killed more people than Nazi Germany. Stalin built gulags for anyone who disagreed with him.
