    This actually isn't an urban metro, but a public railway from the commune/city of Rome to the commune/city of Viterbo (in northern Lazio). Rome have three urban metroes: A (Anagnina - Battistini), B (Laurentina - Jonio/Rebibbia), C (San Giovanni - Monte Campatri-Pantano). These metroes are all better and "less spectral" than that railway. Actually before this video I had no idea of the existence of this underground railway line. I'm not surprised it's so spooky - it's hardly practiced, I guess. To get to Viterbo it is more practical to take a car, a taxi or a suburban bus.

  • @theoldar

    I notice that the interiors are kept very clean. And I wonder if the train stairs operate automatically based on station, or if the driver has to remember when and where to deploy them.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  7 лет назад +22

      The stairs come down at every station. The drivers pre-door, but the doors don't open until the stairs are down and by then the train has stopped, so I should call it pre-stair rather than pre-door.

    • @GrandTheftChris
      @GrandTheftChris 7 лет назад +15

      i still don't get it. what happens at the stations where the stairs aren't needed?

    • @NovioSites
      @NovioSites 7 лет назад +15

      I guess there's room enough underneath the platform edge for the stairs to get out.

    • @av.schillaci
      @av.schillaci 6 лет назад +3

      ? The stairs come down anyway. In the Plantforms made to jump in from the same lavel of the doors there's some space above it to let the stairs come down.

  • @DavideGobbicchi
    @DavideGobbicchi 6 месяцев назад +2

    Hahaha this is the Roma-Civitacastellana-Viterbo railway line, not a Subway...and it has been constantly ranked as the worst railway line in Italy. Here in Rome we call it "treno indianino" (the indian train) and very few people take it ir even know it exists.
    They are currently modernizing it in order to transform it into a proper subway line.

    Not THAT bad, still no litter, which is always the most important issue from the passanger's viewpoint. Interior is clean, no graffitis, no litter. Just do a repair and paint job for the trains, with anti-adhesive resistant coating against graffitis and build proper platforms. There are metros/trams way worse than this everywhere around the world.

    As one of the most famous and fascinating tourist cites in the world, Rome really sucks for its underground railway. I've been to Italy for three times, and it had been very difficult for me to link Italy with the concept of a 'developed country'. But luckily I found the high-speed railway being pretty good; sadly it was too expensive compared with Japanese or Chinese high-speed railway service.

    • @benolifts
      @benolifts  6 лет назад

      I disagree. I found Rome to be a not particularly interesting city. It is full of typical stuff for tourists which cringy and annoying. There were some good parts to the city such as the many old lifts in the buildings. The tourist attractions in Rome are the part of the city because they are aimed at ordinary tourists who have just come to see the attractions. The most interesting things in Rome was this suburban line which is by far the best thing in Rome and it made the whole trip worthwhile for me. Also the Rome Lido line and the narrow gauge railway were very interesting. The Rome metro was ok but nothing special.

      It's actually one of the "Urban lines", the one that terminates at Flaminio. The big give away is "Euclide" station. But yes, in effect, it's a "subway" in the sense that it's an underground line at this part, it's just not one of the 3 "Metro" lines of Rome. Other cities also have similar anomolies, such as the Moorgate to Drayton Park line in London (which is NOT part of the Underground, even though it is....underground), and certain "private" lines in and around Tokyo behave like Metro lines but officially aren't.

      TheGamingBloke Had to do some digging, but it’s clearly the Roma-Viterbo line (or Roma Nord line). Pausing at the first few seconds clearly shows the line’s name for a moment, and I also confirmed that the line is colored green and that ‘Euclide’ station is part of the line. Apparently it’s not part of Rome Metro but an urban and suburban railway network operated by the same folks that operate the city’s metro ;)

    • @stephthestar90

      Interesting. So it's more like a dingy, in need of repair version of the London Overground (which is very clean and modern) or the outer bits of the Central or Metropolitan lines? Those trains look so dirty they make the 1972TS look modern and as for the stations... they remind me of photos I've seen of what LU was like in the 70s/80s before they modernised many of the stations. Even a disused station like Aldwych or some of the old Bakerloo/Piccadilly/Northern Line stations are in better condition than that.

    • @somethingclever1128
      @somethingclever1128 7 лет назад

      Pretty much. It's not quite the Overground (there is an Overground like network, the FL lines, with FL1/FL2/FL3 being considerably more urban), and more so a bunch of Northern City lines that are neither FL nor Metro, and considerably more run down, but that for all intents and purposes should really be properly branded as Metro lines.
      This is the RM-North line which connects to the A Line (and by far the most run down), there's also the RM-Lido line to the south, connected to the B Line, which is a proper metro service in all but name, and the RM-Giardinetti (not to be mistaken with the tram network) which was partly built over by the C Line, but still keeps running outwards as a narrow gauge tram.
      Interesting that they're in financial limbo as much as they exist as "limbo" lines between the Metro and the FL networks, not even that advertised on maps or anything.
