Red was a solid player, a fine Coach and an OUTSTANDING Human Being. Determined, hard working but disciplined and always classy. Red was and is a Blessing forOur Game.
The following season, at the Arena, Red scored a goal after beating Van Impe. I'm not sure if Red saw it, but Van Impe actually swung his stick from behind at Berenson's head as he skated back for the next faceoff. Noel Picard skated right up to Van Impe's face and said something that made Van Impe turn white as a sheet. Red scored two more goals that game. I wonder if Red remembered that. It was his first home game hat trick.
Had the honor of skating with Red in the 1969 Blues Hockey school at the old Winterland arena. Red Berenson, Noel Picard, and Jimmy Roberts were also instructors.
Do you remember all of the pictures of the Blues players around the lobby wall where you put on your skates at the old Winterland barn, and the hockey shop next to it (Giesler Jorgen?) that had all of the cool old school professional equipment? I went to the Olson /Whitworth (Olsen?) Hockey Schools at Winterland and played there some for the old Rainbow Rockets (that name would not fly now) Hockey team.
@@MtHockey I remember the Rainbow Rockets, I played with the Blue Flames, Spirit of St. Louis in the Continental League. I used to live at Winterland and got all my gear from the Pro Shop. Do you remember the old guy Duncan that drove the Zamboni?
No, I didn't know any of the Winterland personnel. I drive the zam now for our local rink in Missoula MT and currently coach (herd cats) the U-6 kids. I played for the St. Louis Chiefs (most of us were ex- Rainbow Rockets) in the Continental League, and as a Rocket, we played the Blue Flames a few times. I remember a player on that Blue Flames team named Dave Bates that we all thought was the St. Louis version of Bobby Orr. Was Lou Struckman your coach on the Flames? I thought the Flames became the St Louis Blazers in the Continental League. We (the chiefs) had several great battles with the Blazers. The Blues could have used the Red Baron tonight against the Jets.
Isn't that the truth. I wish the NHL would put together a streaming package with no blackouts. I cut the cord years ago and haven't been able to watch the Blues except for youtube highlights since.
@leerollins I would say go ahead and get bally just for the NHL season, but the service hasn't even been working properly lol frustrating at 20 dollars a month
Cheers to KPLR TV for erasing the videotape of the six goal game. Nothing to see here. What the hell were they thinking? Would have been one of the great vintage hockey videos of all time.
I remember lying in bed listening to this game on the radio. Red Berenson and Dan Kelley can't be beat.

Way cool.red
Fun fact Red played in my Hometown for 1 game
I would love to know why the Flyers coach didn't pull Favell. Did Bernie refuse to go in?
It is a good thing Bally wasn't involved in the recording. Nobody would know it ever happened.
