When Kaprizov shot the puck over the net, the play was blown dead, as it hit the net. It then fell toward the back of the goal, and no one picked it up. So it just sat there for a while, until Rossi found it and put it in the net.
It's a safety issue. Hockey equipment is most effective at protecting the players from one direction. You want to minimize situations where players are facing away from the direction of fire. It's a dangerous sport and part of what keeps players safe is awareness.
They did away with the human goal judges several years ago. Now it's a guy in the booth, and Toronto makes sure it crossed the line. Woulda never happened if they were still there though.
@@rockinmel1 Thanks for the heads up. I know they go to Toronto, the center of the universe, for decisions...I guess some old codger is out of free seasons tickets now...
Reminds me of the movie The Naked Gun when Leslie Nielsen is working undercover as an umpire and he throws a bunch of baseballs up in the air on a pop fly to keep the inning going.
To be fair. No player noticed. Vasi, who's net area it is, didn't ever notice, No fans seemed to notice, and seemed just as confused, and even announcers and video replay guys didn't notice and had to hunt for it. Everyone missed it. Everyone. This is just one of those 1 in ten million moments.
That's so cool, puck hit the net. Stayed in the air long enough everyone stopped paying attention to it, as it found a nice little hole to hide in behind the net.
Think the blame falls on the linesman for this one. They are responsible for dropping pucks after stoppage in plays except at start of game, period start and after a goal is scored.
Announcers completely missed the drama as it happened. And refs failed to retrieve the puck from the previous play. Not a good look for either the refs or the announcers.
I almost suspect Rossi lost track of the live puck in the scramble behind the net, and only saw the dead one when he reoriented himself since the live one went rocketing out the other side. So he picks up the dead puck immediately and scores a bewilderingly easy goal.
Do you truly believe that with the dozens and dozens of games played every week and the thousands of games played a year that little mistakes like this won't eventually happen, even with diligent and well-trained réf crews ? Give me a break. This wasn't even error that actually ended up mattering for the outcome of a game. Just a complete fluke.
@@TiggaTreyMistakes happen so often they invented a word for them…mistakes. Even the most highly trained individual will make several mistakes. If you think they don’t, you are….mistaken. Take it easy, homie. Have a good one! ✌️
@@leafan101 Yes I truly believe that professional refs do skake around the net look for the puck if it is shot towards the netting. If you can't do that, you are overpaid lazy fass. It was an ERROR. Then again you are fan of a team that have no idea what Stanley cup is so...
I've seen enough hockey clips compilations to know this has already happened at least once in a Ottawa v Rangers game like 12 years ago 😂 props to Rossi for continuing to play even though he must've been confused as heck
I have always thought the best/worst way to disrupt a game if your team is down in an important game would be to chuck an extra puck or ball into the game 😂
Reminds me of my favorite high school soccer practices when we scrimmaged with two balls on the field at once. Technically there were 24; or 23 when Joey was out there after the accident.
That's a huge snafu by the refs. They got lucky the live puck could be traced easily and did not touch the dead puck. Imagine the live puck bumps into the lost one, changes trajectory, and Rossi still scores. Or they can't figure out which is which. What a mess.
I've seen one other clip of something like this before, but that time the extra puck was sitting on the back of the net almost tucked under the padding on the bottom of it. How do you miss an extra just sitting there on the ice?
Fiction: This proves officials are blind. Fact: This never happens, one in a million occurrence. I think for the most part, the officials are actually pretty good at their jobs.
Probably they didn't spot the second puck, and were confused why the play was being blown dead -- and if you can't even see a good reason for it, the first reflex is usually overzealous reffing. Thus, boos.
Watched it from the stands and still don't know how it was there in the first place 😅

You can see it fall down behind the net after the shot and the stoppage in play. 0:10

How come no one bothered to see where the puck went? Lmfao

Pretty bad job by the refs and announcers, IMHO.

Ah yes, the new multi puck rule. I’m glad the NHL is bringing new ideas to the game.
A new format for overtime?

I say try it during the all star celebrations.
Bettman thinks the game needs more goals. More pucks means more goals. Gotta love the outside the box thinking.
this has got to be one of the the funniest things I've ever seen in hockey lmao😂
First I thought some yahoo threw one on the ice, then I thought it was a leftover from the warm up, never seen this one before.
Something similiar happened at Rangers - Senators playoff game like a decade ago.
@@teuvodoggAlso in the 94 Rangers/Vancouver series a fan threw a puck on the ice, IIRC.
The way he says beats Vasilevskiy at the end 😂 dude Vasy was busy watching the real play going on, he didn’t try to save against Rossi
This should be a concept for new OT rules: make overtime 5-on-5 with a shootout, but put two pucks on the ice at once for the entire period.

There's even a goal judge sitting behind the net and 20,000 potential eye balls in the building.

They got rid of goal judges in 2004.

That was second option right after the option that the puck is on the netting and nobody is aware of it. Didn't expect it to be sitting on ice.
"Beats Vasilevskiy" LMAO like he had any clue it was even happening
That’s some really lazy reffing there. How does no one see the puck on the ice behind the net?
Because nobody went to look for it. So stupid.
