I'm from the Boston area but wasn't living there when all this was happening. I'm seeing this for the first time and I'm disgusted by it. The idea that Law was sent to the Vatican and protected there right up until now really burns me up. He should have done prison time .

Yeah, I don't believe a word this piece of shit says! He doesn't mean one word of his "apology." You can see evil in his eyes. Every word out of his mouth is self-serving and self-preserving. He isn't one bit sorry for what happened to those hundreds of children; he is only sorry the sick bastards working under him and his system got caught!

+Sharon Mahoney And what are the chances the Vatican would choose to extradite him, after they promoted him and moved him there, hypothetically? Setting aside that Vatican City State is a recognized independent national territory under international law, Not a member of the United Nations by choice and has no extradition treaties with anyone. And it's government is a absolute elective monarchy.

The fact that they need a protocol informing them how to deal with cases of paedophilic rape is just incredible. Reporting any crime we hear about or encounter is something most of us do naturally. How can the church claim to be the source of moral guidance when they deliberately covered up rape and molestation of thousands of children?

Cardinal Sean Brady in Ireland would be up there too having personally been involved in the coverup of pervert priests in Ireland, who as a young priest was personally at meetings with abused children as an investigator and canon lawyer, after which they were made to sign legal gagging orders, swear an oath on the Bible that if they spoke of this they would have been excommunicated.
If the children who were abused by pervert priests hadn't suffered enough, they were then being bullied by the Catholic Church to keep their mouths shut as what "they" did was sinful. After news of his personal involvement came to light, Cardinal Brady refused to resign as he was drunk on the power of being the highest church authority in Ireland and he believed he was immune to judgement, then church attendance dramatically decreased below half and as damage limitation he "retired" as the Catholic Church in Ireland tried to distance itself from historical abuse and its coverup.
Jesus said "Suffer the little children to come unto me", the hypocrisy of these scumbags is unreal and not only they should practise what they preach, but they should face the laws of the land for their crimes, for perverting the course of justice and aiding and abetting child rapists.

Catholics, I have to know why you didn't come together as a more powerful voice to make a dent in this issue. If YOU had stopped going to your churches, the Vatican would have been forced to let these men fall. I'm not saying turn your backs on God, but turn your back on a sick institution. Why would you offer your children up as a sacrifice? You love your Mother Church that much??? I'm just too sick that people still worship their churches and their priests knowing how this institution works.

Cardinal Law's diatribe turns out to be a fcvking joke.
He is asked,"will the church be unsealing its secrecy documents for public viewing"?
Law, in his condescending, devious tone, sidesteps the question after professing his willingness for full transparency.

  • @lovedichoreo1529
    @lovedichoreo1529 9 лет назад +21

When the reporter asked him if he was going to release the secrecy order on the pending case he looked pissed (I'm focused on this case and this statement alone)
So basically yes, those other cases will remain sealed under church order

Hi - I noticed this was posted by Phil Saviano. My comment is directed to Phil. I live in Australia and my father was a policeman who helped uncover the actions of a priest in Mildura Australia in the 1970s. This matter is the subject of a book by a former detective called Denis Ryan who was my father's partner. The book is called Unholy Trinity and tells the story of Father Day who systematically abused children over more than decade. It also details how the Catholic church and the Victoria Police, at very high levels, helped to cover up the matter. My father suffered very poor mental health (some sort of breakdown) directly as a result of his work and as such, I am convinced that these actions have a substantial ripple effect within society whenever they occur. Having just watched this old press conference, my question to Phil Saviano is, "Do you believe Cardinal Law was genuine in his response or is this just confected public behaviour? Was he lying through his teeth or is he showing genuine remorse? Is he also guilty of conspiracy? I just watched Spotlight and what a sad story. The best thing is that people can now talk about such matters rather than just seeking to conveniently ignore.

When there is a credible charge that a priest or brother has sexually abused a minor you discipline them, take that person out of that situation. You do not allow them to work with children again. You do not just move them around to dull the noise. No man, priest, teacher or counselor should be alone with a child! For the protection of everybody concerned!

I tried to follow this as it was happening but wasn't able to see the forest through the trees at the time. So many lies and excuses. So much pointing of fingers at others, like gay people for instance. The church's actions have truly been disgusting and they have yet to clean up this mess to any adequate degree. The film 'Spotlight' is fantastic, loaded with facts and information, not for those seeking an action film or sensationalism. I left with joy when it won Best Picture. I've watched Spotlight twice now and got so much more out of it the second time through. I plan to see it again very soon, with a better understanding each time I see it. Having been to Rome and performed in choir at St. Mary Major, it troubles me deeply to know that this Cardinal Law enjoys great status and refuge there still. He;s presiding on the seat of one of this worlds major basilicas. I groan. This worldwide abuse scandal was the drip, drip, drip of my loss of faith. Once the cards began to fall so did the house.

Seen the movie tonight and because of the work of all those people other countries were able to get there cases out and bring justice for those who suffered and still are suffering. In Ireland were only a small country of a few million but the abuse cases were a lot across the board in all institutions dating back as far as the 50s. I no longer go to Church myself except to visit my grandfather's grave but seeing this movie tonight gave me food for thought. As the 84 year old law is in luxury in rome and not facing the music at home. Were he blatantly knew about what was going on and did nothing. But he will get what is coming to him some day and i dont believe a word he says. Will check out the rest of the vids when i have a chance. Thanks Saviano!

Mr. Phil Saviano, Up to today, I just learned this sad story and knew your name by the movie "Spotlight". Today is July 2nd, 2017. Yes, I am not in U.S.A., I am in Formosa, The Taiwan. The America being great is because the quality of the citizenship, like you and the spotlight team. You will fight for justice. Let me tell you a story in Taiwan. In south of Taiwan, there is a school of special education, it happened a group of teachers who involved in the sexual abuse to their student in 2011, we call it as 南聰案, up to date, all the teachers who involved still either got their retirement or still teach in school. I know a teacher who joined the investigation of this case now still been isolated by the school ( the school teacher just like the gang member, they cover with each other closely, they are all the member of the KMT, a political party from China in 1949 ). In Formosa, Taiwan, we don't have the " Spotlight team" in our press. All the victims can't talk by voice but only in hand sign, I believe that the victims suffer the pain in their whole life. There is no one like you to set up your own RUclips channel to remark the history of human beings. For this, no more other words but Salute to you.

What was the present policy mentioned when he referred to when he said, if the rigors of the present policy weren't sufficient, then the policy written in 1993 was applied to those particular cases?

Just saw spotlight, I new what it was about, but did not know how big the problem was in the church...... and i dont understand how things like these still go on!! anyone charged & found guilt of child abuse/rape should be in jail FOR LIFE.. dont matter what profession they are in.. forget removing them from the church! And this guy talking like.... Oh Im sorry but its being taken care of.. just want to punch him in the face! I do think that for example drug dealers are bad people, but how is it that they are sentenced to years/decades in prison, while these guys are not!
