"streetfighter" was a term that was used in the 80s to describe the urban customising of sportbike based projects in the UK - this was a time when the manufacturers had not started making "naked" sport bikes , basically the "cafe racers" of the 80s - the bug eye look of speed triple is a nod back to the early days of the urban streetfighters which used the twin headlight look a lot.

Miss my speed triple... wow! It makes you grin!... gotta be one of my favourite bikes I ever owned.. had a lot of bikes over the last 40 years!
Here in the U.K. we have speed cameras everywhere.. unmarked police cars with radar and cameras.... national speed limit is 70mph..
You can have a lot of fun on this bike below 70.. the wind blast on the motorway? (Freeway) kind of limits you to below 90 anyway!
3 cylinders just own this type of motorcycle.. more grunt than a twin... lower revving than a four!
Just get a test ride on one... you won’t be disappointed....
Had to stop riding after getting hit from behind by a nut job in a car... I was in a wheelchair for months! And off work for an age...
Hey! I am blessed! Still here and got all my “bits” tho some don’t work like they used too!

Dirk Diggler They are very much alike. Especially the earlier Speed Triples and the mt09.
      - Both are naked bikes with very strong engines known for their “hooligan” character.
      - Neither are really very much refined.
      - Both love to wheelie.
      - There is plenty of opportunity to customise the bikes. Loads of aftermarket parts.
      - The keyword for neither isn’t fast lap times, just loads of fun on public roads.
The newer Speed Triples are much more refined than the earlier ones, distancing them self from the mt09. But still I think the Speedy is like a Premium mt09.

  • @johntechwriter
    @johntechwriter 7 месяцев назад +4

For me, the T509-generation Speed Triple was the high point of my 30+ year riding career. My favorite riding environment was undulating back roads with little traffic.
In the Bay Area, I hung with a small bunch of expert middle-aged sport riders who were fast but not reckless. We were surrounded by empty two lanes leading to Santa Cruz and other destinations and knew them all by heart.
Now in my 50s, I was riding a little less aggressively than before. The new generation of Japanese super bikes had better performance numbers, but I considered them lethal for street use, and the fatality numbers bore me out. I feel very badly for the large number of young, inexperienced riders who bought one of these as their first bike and got in over their heads.
The Triumph, on the other hand, had that magical combination of outrageous design and refined engineering. Its light weight and awesome brakes enabled me to out-deep my partners in crime when entering corners. The bike transitioned superbly, and I could get on that silky triple earlier than my friends on more powerful bikes, who had to carefully modulate their acceleration out of corners lest their rear wheel break traction and high-side them.
The Speed Triple was a bike everybody liked, and many manufacturers copied. It was the original hooligan bike. Who but the British could have come up with that concept?

My yamaha fz6 fazer 600 does 64ish mph in 1st gear n 95ish mph in 2nd, and 125ish mph in 3rd. But us can still ride in 5th or 6th at 25-30 mph without it chugging or struggling, great bike.

I love the trumpets, i got to coming from the UK, it's one of the things that we could be proud of here and I've had street and speed triples but my all time favourite is the old oil cooled Suzuki 1200 bandit, i love em, those and old Kawasaki zx9r's. I have the 2020 Street Triple R with the moto2 765 engine, I wanted a GSXR600 really bad but insurance here in ontario is like 400 a month so I bought the street triple. I'm really glad I did because its super comfortable, sounds absolutely amazing like I mean the 765 inline triple is just so fantastic, its super smooth and the quick shifter is loads of fun. I will eventually get a second bike and will probably get a super sport cause I've always wanted one but I'm glad I got the street triple for long rides and going to work.

That is something I really like is to have a bike few other people have....Typically about 15 years old or so. Suzuki TL1000S, Kawasaki ZRX 1200, Now a Triumph Speed Triple, which oddly enough of all the bikes I ever had this is the one people seem to like the best, I have gotten more compliments and comments on it than all other bikes I owned put together... It's a 2000 Model in Roulette Green ... so I think that pulls people in.

Streetfighters originally got the name cause they'd been sent down the road and either had parts from other bikes fitted, or, put back on the road without the fairing as riders couldn't afford to replace the damages. This gave the bikes a more aggressive look and manufactures started making stock street fighters.

Yep I had one of these, it’s a bike that never get bored of, I would guess that given the arrow pipes it’s got s triumph race tune mapped in (why wouldn’t you lol). The missing rear pegs will be because they stick out around the original end pipes, and lets face it, nobody ever purchased a speed triple to carry passengers. Personally I preferred my 955 Daytona but for sheer grin factor when riding, im not sure much beats the triple engine trumpets anyway.

7:36 You don't just trust the mirrors regardless of how much visibility you have; you always do a lifesaver check on top of your mirror check. In the UK/EU you'll fail your bike test straight away for not doing your lifesaver checks...

Re: Mirrors.. I have similar mirrors to the triple series nakeds and I love them, I have them facing above the bars and stuck in so they make for easier lane filtering (in australia) and think they are great as you are using them to look behind and over your arm most times, without actually having to turn your head much and can see HEAPS out of them.. You still shoulder check(as any rider should when changing lanes or merging into traffic from parking spots etc) but find that the bottom mounted ones A don't function as they should and B don't look right to me, they look funky on my bike and prefer them upwards and pointed in a bit.. Nice bike and loving the vids mate. RIDE SAFE

The under-hang those mirrors are doing is part of the problem. The one Rizoma makes 20% larger, but the same shape. I have mine mounted in the top-hang position and they are just big enough to trust, while looking real classy!

I had the Tiger 1050 as a second bike to my first being a Varadero 125 lol, what a jump, it's by far the best litre bike to be riding in England though as the potholes on the roads are shit, having tall forks and swing arms has paid off many a time, the Tiger is much taller and heavier upfront but like the speedtrip it's a torque monster and sounds ace with a race can on. It's a sound that makes you want to rev it though :)
