  • In todays video, I create a terrarium using the zilla 12x12x15 front opening terrarium. The setup for this enclosure is inspired by the 2005 film king king directed by Peter Jackson. Utilizing the vegetation growth of moss and ferns as well as the geographical features such as rocks, caves, and crevices from skull island, I use expanding foam to make a naturalistic setup that resembles this environment. The primary inhabitant for this terrarium is a curly hair tarantula. (How to set up a curly hair tarantula enclosure)(how to care for a tarantula)(how to use expanding foam for tarantulas)

Nice terrarium!, the moss and fern really captures the subtropical rainforest biomes from the movie. The tarantula also mimics the giant spiders. The movie actually used forests from New Zealand where it was filmed.

    Dear Joel:
I wonder if reptiles, rodents, and arachnids are happy in small enclosures. I've heard that tarantulas tend to be quite sedentary, so they don't really need too much space. As long as they have plenty of cover; parameters such as temperature and lighting are right; and food is plentiful, they can be right happy.
Have you ever been bitten by a tarantula? I've heard it isn't very serious.
Thank you for sharing your, terrific build on RUclips.
    All my best,
    Sincerely,
    E. J. Brinegar

That’s a good question! 🤔 yea most spiders tend to create their own burrow/web that they’ll stay and wait until prey arrives so they typically won’t wander off very far. Thankfully i haven’t been bit by a tarantula before but I’ve been pretty close with some when they act aggressive. Many say most bites are around the same amount of pain as a bee sting or a bit more/less. Thank you for watching and for your continued support!

How did you add the branch to make it stay

For me, it was able to stay there by just sticking it in the soil, however, you can probably use silicone or foam to make it stuck on the bottom of the glass

i think your enclosure is too high which fits for arboreal tarantula

Right, I did provide over four inches of substrate towards the back of the terrarium for burrowing however this tarantula so far seems to prefer climbing the walls rather then staying at the bottom which is pretty rare for curly’s. So far it seems like a win win situation.
