  • Is Mental Health important​ in the workplace? Tom explores all things related to workplace mental health, including mental health in school workplaces, in this insightful video. Tom helps employers figure out mental health at work. He reviews workplaces, trains managers and writes plans.
    Since 2012 he has interviewed more than 130 people, surveyed thousands and worked across the UK with corporations, civil service, charities, the public sector, schools and small business. Tom has worked with national mental health charities Mind and Time to Change and consults widely across the UK. He lives in Norfolk and is mildly obsessed with cricket and camping.
    He runs Bamboo Mental Health, an organisation dedicated to improving how employers support their people on mental health. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    I personally think that mental health isn’t taken seriously in the workplace is because it’s invisible and the manager will just think you are lazy or making excuses.

      Being believed, and backed, is critical for trust and performance. Open conversations are not as common as they should be. For managers that are distrustful, assume positive intent. Or use kind support via EAP or HR process if there are red flags (common, non-specific, non-communicative absence.)

      @@tomoxley7065 Totally agree 👍. There is no accountability police telling yhe boss hey you have been flaged 15 times and if it continues your going to be let go. They simply repeat the HR paperwork/ training protocol and we still suffer with the same boss & work atmosphere.

    The problem with our society is that this conversation is really about saving companies money....not improving our quality of life.

      Actually, the legal, moral and business cases often enjoy the same outcome. When we get this right, it works for everyone. The processes to get there are also intertwined. For organisations that only THINK to do this to save money, there will be benefits for employees.

      I guess whatever motivates someone to do right then it is what it is. Celebs are motivated to do good for good PR but they're still doing good in the end even if it isn't for the right reasons.

      Could not agree more. I've unfortunately witnessed firsthand both ends of the spectrum and having a team that vibes and a manager who fights for you, is a true leader, is a huge key.

    I quit the corporate world for the sake of my mental health. It is a waste of time to deal with toxic boss and colleagues. I do a lot of freelance job, tutoring, web development, online business, flipping houses. It can be done.

      @TakChengSze I am so proud of you for quitting the 9-5 hustle! I did the same! I'm helping a friend flip a house and freelancing wherever possible. Typically odd jobs. I'll be helping a greenhouse next week, Christmas I'll be helping a bakery... There's different things out there. Just have to be open minded 😏

    My current job has cause me so much anxiety and stress. Working in a call center it’s so stressful because people treat you like a punching bag. I’m so ready to start a new path until I can find my calling.

    This is why people turn to alcohol and drugs because the issue is not being addressed. This is why people commit atrocities against themself and others. Because the problem is not being addressed. The American economy values efficiency over humanity.

    I left my day job due to a disease called migraine. Thankfully I got them under control by working from home and don't have to deal with all the office politics, work messages sent to me at 23:00 and stuff like that. I now run a personal branding design studio from home, sell my art online and give guitar lessons as a side-hustle. I am much happier working from home. What an insightful talk!

      Your lucky. I feel like my mental health would improve if I worked from home. I have to tolerate people and I’m not a people person. I liked it better when I had a truck job and I was working by myself. Damn the freedom I had.

    If u are depressed bcos of ur job, quitting is the first step to end ur suffering & start anew but u have to be ok with the possibility of earning less or being jobless for quite sometimes. Been there done that.

      @@cristinacebotari5794 I have a friend who have this problem. Every workplace she had been to makes her feel miserable. In that case I think it’s a deeper issue & need to learn how to deal with it or see therapist etc

      I just quit my job and have accepted it would be a while before I get another job. Until then my focus would be to improve my mental health and upskill myself. Absolutely dreaded the job and felt too stressed but that’s past now. Hope it worked out for u

    The problem is that the first resort is always to fix the person when the correct way is to fix the environment. It all comes back to money and profits. If the world was less obsessed with money and growth the issues would disappear. But given that's a little unrealistic the next approach is for management to provide a better environment, not tell employees how to deal with stress. Fix the cause, not the symptom.

      @@999timepass In life there are only 2 problems--mind and the body. To feel better reduce negative thoughts. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations. When taking a walk, at office, in college, when reading, before sleep etc observe your breath sensations. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Reduce negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

    I struggle with depression and anxiety really bad. I decided to work overnights and do stocking because there is no customers, but my depression still gets bad and my anxiety is bad as well. I want to work and make money but my mental health does effect me. I feel unmotivated, tired, overthinking and overwhelmed. It’s very hard for people especially managers to understand. Depression and anxiety is a real thing and mental health in general. People don’t just commit suicide for no reason. It’s the raving thoughts in your head and emotions. I get yelled at all the time for being “too slow” I have to use excuses all the time on why I call out. Treat others with kindness and respect

      They are very real, dear sohailsohail9655 I am sad to hear you are in this place. But have courage that you can work for change. If you can afford any therapeutic help it is often a good place to start your journey. Alongside professional support, sleep, nutrition (low ultra-processed food) and daily movement are nearly always beneficial. But mainly, I hear you and feel for you. You are already doing amazing things - real strength to keep going. I send you all kindness from UK.

    Most employers are profit robots with a total disregard to someone's mental/physical health!..they don't like the mental health subject, because it challenges the ethos of using people for their own ends!.

    I quit my job at social security services in Austria six years ago. A job where its almost impossible to get fired. No one understood my decision and still when i look back it was the best decision ever. Since then my live got so much better and right now i work for six months and travel for six months every year. I can only advise you: be brave and move on 🎉🎉

      @@willzayas3239 right now i work as a self employed wine salesman and part time in a Hotel in Austrian, alps. And when i travel i use workaways all over the world to lower my travel costs. Works really great for me.

      @@bitchybajwa9878 honestly i just went for it without a plan. I read a book from John Strelecky and it was an eye opener for me. If you dont feel happy with what you do....change something. Think about what you really wanna do instead and then follow your dreams. Once i started to change my life, opportunities came to me without me searching for them. At the moment I'm thinking of buying a propper campervan and travelling the whole Europe the next few years. We will see how thats working for me. What are you doing right now and what would you like to change?

      If your managers are worried about your efficiency then it's their job to address those needs of yours for better efficiency. Especially mental and emotional ones

      Busy managers are often the most pressurised group in your organisation, and theyre probably ill-equipped to deal with their own mental health, let alone others. Most employers nowadays have an Employee Assistance Programme and / or Mental Health First Aiders, independent of the line to help signpost you. Having conversations in a non-judgemental situation is vital. An open culture is so important and it takes courage to raise this matter with your employer. Having said that, there is so much noise about this huge issue nowadays, and your employer should be aware that failure to exercise a duty of care will have both commercial and reputational implications. Does your workplace have an influential employee representative group or someone / somebody of that ilk who can start the conversation?

      I'm off for 3 days to recover from stress build up at that company I work for.It's like the vile entered the place(Compare Daniel 11:21--) and turned the place upside down with their exploits.I can't even take a day off without returning to a big mess left by those colleagues I work with. I'm in the wrong environment, around the wrong people.Those managers/ supervisors are lousy, too, turning the blind eye.These 3 days (4-13,14,and 15) will go fast.

    Workplace bullying and other sorts of what I call "work hurts" are rampant in workplaces. It's awful. Finally, there is an upward trend in awareness about this issue and better information about what individuals and organizations can and should do in response.

      Have been passively trying to by joining unions of IT employees, but since it is a service industry and there is a constant switching to different companies among employees , it is a little difficult to organize ourselves.
      But ultimately, the corporates are plundering our emotional sap.
      Can you suggest something that I can do my bit, to gain attention from the top level bureaucrats?

      @@ROCKJAMES03 Wow . . . a lot of employee movement does pose a challenge for organizing, but I can definitely recommend that you (or you and whatever group of allies you're able to assemble) make a formal presentation to leadership focused on the problem as you see it, the widespread problem (a handful of key research highlights and stats about the countrywide or worldwide problem), what it is costing your company (in turnover, in sick leave use, poor morale and productivity, harder time recruiting talent b/c of company culture, etc.), and what you are asking leadership to do OR what you propose they do. Your "ask" or "proposal" could be something like you want to gather up a representative group of employees with an executive leadership "sponsor" to serve as an advisory group . . . or you want to suggest the company hire a consultant to do a culture audit to find problem areas and make recommendations . . . or you simply want their blessing and help in starting monthly lunchtime talks with guest speakers on bullying, mental health in the workplace, workplace wellness, etc. Do these ideas help you at all?

    I can’t say it enough. To retain employees you have to care for their well-being like it’s your own. But instead management constantly disregards the warning signs and then posts how such of a devastating loss it is to the company that the employee is literally “gone” or has departed the company. Especially from self harm. The signs are there. But only a small percentage of companies truly care.

      @@silver4831 In some high-demand and stressful jobs with "x" caseloads, for continuous service. To the employer's benefit, keeping diligent workers on board permanently would be beneficial. Because every time you bring in a new worker, you risk losing customers due to mismatch or their high demand needs weren't being met daily by the absent of the designated worker. Or having to learn someone's work integrity for at least after 3 months. Unfortunately, the handover of workers in some jobs leaves clients unsupported and gradually impacts an organisation's reputation.

    My job stresses me out from time to time. Sometimes I have hard days. Sometimes I have hard weeks. But there are good days, good weeks. And at the end of the day I still like my job. I'm not at the point where I want to quit. It's normal to have some stressful hard days... But also helps to talk about those stressful days. Vent them out. It's not easy to just laugh off the stressful situations.

    Many people are in a position where taking time for mental health, even less than a day, is a luxury they cannot afford.
    We have transcended material and social divides and we are now divided by who can afford to have basic human needs and comforts.
    These are things that we never really lacked as humans until now. It’s ironic that in a world of ever increasing abundance and convenience, we can be lacking fundamental self care and connections that were once taken for granted.

      Yes indeed! Manager training gives excellent return for your time and investment. They are best placed to spot signs, have that important conversation and create offer adjustments. To do this, however, they need support of senior leaders! Good HR policies, processes and a choice of support also help.

    Thank you for this video Tom, I came across this video in such relevant timing. Much questions in my mind, it's difficult when you're in that situation and we fear that we'll be judged and singled out. The problem is weighing up whether you speak out, or add your voice to bring up the issues or leave the place. Much other factors such as company profit obsessed culture, putting customers first. I feel as if I've been pushed to my limits and it's not a great place. Sending my love to all the people in this difficult time. Choose the moral way of overcoming.

    As a manager I'm asked to justify company needs of working people Monday thru Saturday every damn week. Sometimes up to 60 hrs a week. And the thought of mentioning "mental health" and the fact that they're burning out their employees is a battle that'll end up getting me fired. I've brought it up in meetings that you cannot work people like this and that it has an adverse effect on hiring new employees. Our new plant manager said, word for word, "if we have work, you WILL work. Period. End of discussion". Some OT is great, dont get me wrong, but other than Xmas and Good Friday, I have worked every Saturday since September of 2020. I'm burnt. It's time for a change.

      This happened to me a month ago, I was being laughed at and one of them said "mental health? Honey all of us is crazy, this is just reality"
      Its a taboo subject, uneducated people are not aware about the danger of mental illness. Even the HR people who are mostly from psychology degree, they forgot everything that they learn and take part in this human exploitation.

      You might not be, but you certainly won't be given any support. "Independence and Ambiguity" is what most companies live on because they either don't know how to write competent policies or the want to pass the blame downward.

    “Managing out of the organization” is so real. Also, yes talking about mental health at work is important, but it needs to be done genuinely. My line manager in the NHS gave me a weird smirk when we got to the mental health question in one of our meetings because I’d be crying from months of constant nitpicking

      Sorry to hear this Clara. Try bringing in a third party - a colleague or another manager - to your meeting. Record the nitpicking. Get witnesses. Seek resolution from your manager based on the evidence. It sounds like you've had a really hard time and I'm sorry. Your guts probably tell you this feels unfair and they are correct. Bless you.

      Wow thanks for responding Tom! You know what if this ever happens to me again, what you suggested is exactly what I will do, but at the time I was so stressed I didn’t have the capacity to press further other than to let HR know what had happened. Also too afraid that I’d cause noise that ends up backfiring on me because my field is fairly small. That being said, I’m in a much better place now that I’ve left that organization.

    The job I’m working at now, my boss in the job interview asked about my mental health asking “so is that all cleared up now”, to which I responded “yes”, out of fear that they’d think I’d be unreliable. Now I’m at home after having a panic attack at work and had to leave work early to look after myself. One of the managers who was looking after me didn’t understand what a panic attack was, so I had to try to explain to him while I was still showing symptoms. Not the best way to handle it but he showed his support for me which helped.
    It’s very difficult when there’s no openness to learning about mental health. Although my managers where fine to let me go home early, I wouldn’t have known that was ok until this happened. The reason my attack started was because I get trapped and was convinced I couldn’t allow myself to feel anything but fine.

    Coming from personal experience, I totally agree.
    To send people straight to doctor and give them long day offs often doesn’t help.
    Have sincere talk with the employees, let them feel safe talking about the problem, and maybe discuss what could change, often serves better.
    A lot of time employees just need to safe place to discuss. Locking themselves in the brain is the fastest way to depression and lost of human asset.

      Everything starts with communication. I have a coworker that no matter how much you want to help and give her options she have an excuse for every situation in her life starting from childhood and her victimhood drives everyone bunkers. Pretty much use every employee as a therapist and people started cutting her up completely. Now she said they have no manners and they disrespected her (among other things). She don't get it! We are at work not at the park. She refuse to look into herself to see why people treat her like that. So is the worlds fault and she has no accountability.

    Lovely to see such an encouragement to accept depression, anxiety, and stress. It is indeed a reality that is happening every single day inside a home or a workplace that's why it is important to help out each other in order to get better together, to get through such a rough time together. Such an unhealthy balance of life and work has brought impactful consequences in my life and body, I am in the state to prioritize my health first as it is what I urgently need. Palpitations and hyperventilation aren't a joke and can result in death. I've experienced it all. So, let's prioritize our health more than anything, to prevent such regrets.

    Very useful video. In life there are only 2 problems--mind and the body. To feel better reduce negative thoughts. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Do the practice without any expectations. When taking a walk, at office, in college, when reading, before sleep etc observe your breath sensations. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Reduce negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

      The problem is that the first resort is always to fix the person when the correct way is to fix the environment. It all comes back to money and profits. If the world was less obsessed with money and growth the issues would disappear. But given that's a little unrealistic the next approach is for management to provide a better environment, not tell employees how to deal with stress. Fix the cause, not the symptom.

      Wish it was that simple I'm working a restaurant and the restaurant's been 55 some years my boss man his dad started it and there's only like three of them three or four around here and my boss will I spoke to him about my manager multiple times I've been there 3 years or so and within this last year she started bullying me and it got bad I've spoken to people outside there I've even went to the courthouse and there's nothing I can do like there's harassment there's Boolean I've lost weight I don't eat I don't sleep I have really bad thoughts like not to hurt myself no I love me some me but I hurt she has hurt me so bad worse than a relationship I've been in a 6 years being abused I don't know what to do I've tried to do as much as I can I don't have a car I can just go out and get a job I walked to my job it ain't but two blocks from here I love my job actually I love most everybody there it's just her please someone help

    I just had a mental breakdown because of my job. I tried to explain to my wife that my mental health is deteriorating. However, she doesn't seem to believe me. I've been punching walls for 5min now, feeling resentful. I've been keeping these negative emotions to myself, and I feel like I'm about to have another breakdown.

    The worlds is becoming faster, but in trades the work is almost the same now than it was 30 years ago. With the exception of some new types of tools. People expect things done faster, and with the same quality. The world expects quality and speed, and this is what stresses out a contractor. Speaking from experience here, If someone wants a job done that should take a week in a few days. Their will be a rush and that in turn takes a toll on quality. Give that contractor that full time and he will be able to provide a better quality product as well as a better attitude toward the job. We arn't machines, we are human.

      Cutting costs and rushing through some projects can cause fatal accidents. Big example: The 2 Boeing plane crashes. Then come the lawsuits. I hate this corporate greed and stubbornness. Also hate being afraid to just refuse.

      I worked on lots of big building sites and everyone has a program of how long the job should take each individual trade but they just cut it in half and expect the same level of quality, they say you need to get more men but that doesn't always help.

    I work for a massive company here in the uk, I’m off with depression and on medication now and told my line manager and also occupational health who have referred me to CBT therapy, got a letter in last week saying I am going on half pay as before this I have ran and made excuses after excuses and took random sickness as I couldn’t face talking to my employer or anyone about what’s going on with me, now my sickness has now accumulated in just over 6 months off work in the last year which I am not proud of at all obviously, but no more lies and it’s out in the open for all to see and have half pay which brings its own stresses, just want to be better and fast.

      @@Pri100 Sorry to hear this, since I expressed my problems my employer they have been really good I must say, along with medication (Sertaline) and the CBT slowly I started improving, very slowly with ups and downs trying to find a balance dosage with the meds which I was always against, but I was at my lowest ebb at the time and decided I needed to try something. I also was put on a lengthy back to work plan building my hours back up to being back full time after 3 months which helped me get back to full pay too, this really helped me get some routine back in my life too. Currently I’m now tapering my medication down with an aim to get off the medication hopefully within the next 8weeks.
      Personally with my experience if I could give any advice is own it, own your feelings and speak out and be truthful and always consult your GP and work with them, being truthful seems to have its own natural release I found and don’t get me wrong I still have my bad days but they are getting less now and more manageable.
      I was diagnosed with anxiety, ocd with intrusive thought patterns which was triggering a depression, so this may be totally different from your circumstances, a role or job change could be your issue.

    We don’t talk about work / life boundaries enough. That is the problem. Companies and executives put profits before people every time. Do more with less. Work longer hours, with fewer people to shoulder the load, for the same pay with less benefits. Emails and phone calls at all hours with no thought to it being after normal working hours. There is no separation between work and life anymore. Smartphones are the modern leash that employers have around their employees necks.

    I work 2 jobs. Im a VP of a Sales for a company that raises capital from investors for a high risk investment. Im also an executive chef of a fibe dining restaurant. I absolutely consume myself with work because im struggling with a lot of issues from PTSD to Complicated Grief Disorder to Bipolar disorder with constant suicidal bipolar depression. It's worked well for the last coupke years. It's no longer working, and I know I'll either give in to the depression or completely break from 14 hour work days as a chef 6 days a week and spending 10-20 additional hours training sales representatives and selling clients. I feel hopeless and I'm out of options and effective ideas to stave off the suicidal thoughts and actions.

    Guys, the Indian workplace is a horrible place to be. It's rife with jealousy, old fashioned beliefs, rigidity, back stabbing, overwork and little to no appreciation. But this isn't the worst part. The worst part is no one understands squat about mental health here. It's not even a conversation, and if you bring anything of the sort up, you'll be fired before you can bat an eyelid. Or at the very least, considered to have a serious attitude problem. And this isn't just true of small companies in India. I work at HSBC, and you wouldn't believe how toxic it is here. I feel companies should place a very high value on candidates who have empathy and compassion, especially for managerial positions. Because a bad manager can give you very poor self esteem, and that should be something you can avoid.

    Unfortunately despite what they may say about work-life balance, most companies are only concerned about productivity and their bottom line. They'll try to push you out and replace you if they perceive you as a problem. Try to take care of yourself first and prioritize that. I know we all have bills to pay some more than others. The employer (at least in the states) usually doesn't care about your long-term well being, you're only as good as what you can do for them. The stock price is much more important to the company than your mental health.

    I just got my first job 2 months ago and I am stuck in it for the next two years. I have so much stress and anxiety that one day it just got so much worse that I took a sick day bcs I just couldn't bear it(I have never taken sick leaves before this all my life). It's so stressful that I have no idea what to do. I am an introvert too so talking about my problems especially with my team is out of question. I work more than 12 hrs a day that adds to the stress. And I am stuck here for the next two years so my life officially sucks and the next two years are going to be filled with anxiety, exhaustion and sickness.

It started to get a little better a few months ago but in the last 2 weeks or so my anxiety has gotten worse. Even yesterday and today I am on sick leave because it has been that bad.     I feel like if i dont quit my job, I'm going to seriously lose it with somebody at work or worse i just dont know i definitely am quitting come Friday

    The Friday just before taking my vacation, I made a few mistakes and even broke down while on a call with my boss. That was when I was relieved to know I was ready for a break.

      That's a big sign! Your body was crying out for rest. Regular vacations do help prevent burnout as part of general health management. But I also hope you are able to discuss your load with your manager. I wish you all the best.

    I work for the NHS at a GP surgery. I sat at my desk in a room full of people with my hand holding my chest. It took 30 mins before anyone noticed..... IN A GP SURGERY! After a meeting the previous day saying we should be looking out for one another

      I think the NHS has got to be one of the worst places to work. I immediately resigned from a job that was making me ill both physically and mentally and I was only there for 3 and a half months.

    My employer doesn’t have mental health in their vocabulary, and it’s needed where I work. It needs to be a weekly conversation in our workplace. They would think I was crazy if I approached them about this. I’m ready to leave, cause I’ve been struggling with stress in my workplace, and no help resources through them

    Brilliant. I think a lot of employers lose great people because they spend too much time being professional and forget about being personal especially when it matters. The corporate world silk always spin on people are not as well oiled as that machine unfortunately.

    I’m in sales. Health insurance producer. Job is performance based and I know I can do the job I’ve been here the longest I’ve ever kept a job and have even enjoyed it at times. I’ve been going through deaths of friends, I’m a single mom have no social life what so ever. I sleep all day and have ptsd and anxiety all night. I would not wish depression on my worst enemy. Of course my job does not understand and just thinks I’m lazy or incompetent one more write up for being late or poor job performance and im losing my job. I care sooo much about my job but at this moment I don’t

    So much of this rings true with my experiences of work - what is masked as "concern for your welfare" is actually a pretext to boot you out, in my case, because I was getting too expensive to employ

    I'm a huge victim of social anxiety, especially in a workplace. This is not because of the fact that I live under autism, which is very common, but because I have been difficult to work with other people and I often lack self control. I tried to meditate, exercise, or think of happy thoughts, but social anxiety keeps pushing me back and it's extremely HARD and FRIGHTENING to deal with. I don't control my temper so much, nor do I concentrate, communicate, or behave the way other people are at workplaces. I still handle it today and I don't have the courage to fight it. If there's anyone who can give me advice about how I can deal with this life I'm in, please let me know.

      This happens from trauma after being bullied at work and ostracized for a prolonged period.

      I've never been bullied. Last time I was, I was in middle school. I actually struggle with being proud of myself, even when others tend to be proud of who I am, what I do, and why I exist. It's stress and anxiety I couldn't handle.

    As a clinician at a mental healthcare clinic I am acutely aware of stressors that have potential of eroding team cohesion. Having unbiased supportive resources in place and available are critical to avoid burnout and employee dissatisfaction.

    I am beyond burnt out and over worked. I got Covid in January so all my PTO is gone and I am so so tired. My work load is unmanageable & well known to be but nothing is changing. I have awful anxiety because I am so overworked. I want out so bad. I can't do it anymore but I jave bills.

      shaheer hassan same, I’m 19 and I breakdown and cry three hours before I have to work. I’m not sure why.. but no matter where I go I’m just so anxious.

    I have a good team I work with but due to my disabilities it’s hard especially when I’m doing studying and have a date I have to get them done by, it causes me to overthink and have panic attacks bc me having those disabilities it’s hard and you overthink if you don’t get them done by the due date your boss might think you didn’t try or are lazy even tho she 100% understands

    You can’t say anything. Not at work. Rarely do employers care about heath, people and never mental health where they push you to nervous breakdowns. I’m having one now after years of pushing my body, mind, spirit to the brink. Asking for prayers now thank you

      Prayers, also sleep diet and exercise. Meditation works for some and medication for others. Talking is generally good. Seek community.

    I’ve already told my leadership about the stress one of them is causing. Went from two understanding and encouraging me to go to therapy while the third one continues to stress me out, to two acting like I’m a visitor passing through when they see me and the third one continues to stress me out. The whole time, I’m just like “🙉make her stop. I wouldn’t be stressed out and need to go to therapy if you addressed the cause of my stress (the third boss’s behavior).” I can’t even talk to her without her retaliating in some way. She doesn’t listen, she does what she wants to do, she doesn’t care what other people are going through, how they feel, what they think, or how her actions/decisions are stressing the rest of us out. Stress is a symptom of something, just like pain, itching, and grogginess are symptoms of something. Address the cause properly and the symptoms go away.

    I've had to take two weeks of work...I needed to breathe 😪 I'm taking care of my dad with parkinsons and dementia 6 days he stays with me...my partner has oesophagus cancer...and I have bipolar adhd...I love my job but I don't know if I can do this ...I'm absolutely mentally exhausted.

    Every time a relative invites me to a party, I have to make an excuse. I am always swamped under with work. By no means, this is going to help me. Day by day I am becoming an anti-social person. Finding a balance between workplace and personal life is very important.
