I remember for a long time people hated Ash as a whole.
It only stopped in XY and Sun and Moon because he was cool in one and won the league in the other.
A lot of them are the same people that now want him to come back.
    To do what?
    The same old things again?
    No thank you.
Journeys proved to us that writing Ash moving forward would become harder and harder to keep up with, even if the format changed.
Horizons is fantastic on its own, way more than anyone expected and Ash being gone needed to happen someday.
He's been here for 25+ years, at a certain point his presence would only become a detriment and shackle the Anime after passing the point of no return.
I can still accept Journeys existence for his character, but I am convinced that another series with him flat out wouldn't have worked.
This was the edge of the cliff and I'm glad we turned back right at the last moment at least.
Doing a movie about him tho?
    Sure why not?
Could make for a much better ending for his character than whatever Journeys did with him.

The fact of the matter is, that the guys saying they wanted Ash to stay are probably the same crowd that wanted him to leave after DP or XY.
I think you put it best with your One Piece analogy, as frankly, Ash essentially felt either watered down in Journeys or regressed.
Horizons is a breath of fresh air, as because I grew up with Ash, I can't say I didn't think his time was up for a while now, and I'm glad Liko and Roy are taking the spotlight as Liko herself is growing on me quickly

Honestly, in terms of being Ash’s final series, I think this was a horrible series to end on.
      1. Ash and his team's development - Ash and his team have a very lackluster development because they're barely relevant or onscreen during the series to the point where Ash didn't even bother being any of his old pokemon to face off against the champions in the masters 8. These guys are the strongest in TITLE and TITLE ONLY.
      2. Goh and Chloe - These two are probably the worst characters to be paired with ash. I think reason people hate Goh is because of his impact on the series in general. Ever since the beginning of the Pokemon anime, we got to experience Ash and his friends travel together with their pokemon. Whether it was playing, arguing, training or exploring we got to experience that and feel a connection with everyone even the ones that didn't a lot of attention like Boldore, Palpitoad, gible, etc. But with Goh he sort takes that connection away. It's not Goh catching so many pokemon that's the problem; it's the fact most of these captures feel like a checklist for a collection instead of companions that you bond with. Plus it doesn’t help that Goh caught all the galar starters while ash got just had Dracovish and Sirfetch’d in Journeys. Plus their treatment was borderline awful. Cinderace was goh’s first ever Pokemon and it rushed its evolution, was replaced when goh caught sobble, and then left to rot in its pokemon when it fully evolved unless necessary. Sobble spent its evolution as drizzile in a cave and never showed up for a major appearance until its evolution. And grookey was completely useless. It was just the generic comic relief starter that followed after Dawn's Piplup, without any significant accomplishments to its name. It didn’t even get to use more than 2 moves. I don't feel any connection with Goh and his pokemon. What I DO feel is the writers forcibly shoving the idea of Goh having a strong bond with his Pokemon down my throat by mostly saying it without actually showing it. It just doesn't work out for anyone. And Chloe she had an interesting start where she wanted nothing to do with Ash Goh or the world of Pokemon. But when she got Eevee she became less of a character and more of a plot device used to show off different Eevee evolutions. It basically takes her the whole series to do what she should've been doing in the first place.
      3. Nostalgia over story -They bring too many old characters to the point where Journeys would be unable to stand on its own if it was for things from the past. Even when a character returns, some of them are handling poorly like Iris not properly displaying her battle skills as a champion by losing to ash's new dragons and Cynthia in both of her only battles in Journeys. As well as Dawn acting like a female ash and not showing off her progress as a coordinator at all.
      4. Mishandled battles - Ever since the Korrina rematch, I feel like many of Ash's JN battles have been very controversial because it feels like Ash shouldn't be able to win most of them. Like ash's battles against Steven Stone, Drasna and his final match with Bea. I know they want to make Ash the underdog so that he can comeback from a struggle but the way he turns things around doesn't feel believable at all. The battles don’t feel genuine; they just feel like Ash to win no matter what because he has to fight Leon as soon as possible.
      5. Neglection of Galar Content - This is the first series that takes place in multiple regions instead of just one region. However the Cerise Lab in Kanto and not Galar which makes it worst represented region ever. They only bring like less the half of galar content. Including barely any dynamaxing or gmaxing and rushing the darkest day arc.
      6. Episodic Nature of the series - The writers decided to make the series episodic instead of story based which results in rushed arcs or development episodes for pokemon. It makes the episodes feel very disconnected, but the series needs to be connected because they add things that need arcs like Project Mew and the PWC.
      7. Masters 8 - This has to be the worst written league tournament ever created. While I do feel sorry the writers that have been through a lot with having to dealing with Covid-19 and letting a lot of people go including some directors, they came to this tournament completely under prepared. Ash's battles feel like he shouldn't have won at all because his opponents are too smart and powerful. Meanwhile Leon goes from undefeatable to untouchable by sweeping Alain and Diantha to the point where it feels completely unbelievable for Ash to actually beat him. And Finally, The fans - I think the fans are the worst aspect of Journeys because I feel like they're being either really hypocritical or contradicting. Whenever something controversial like Alain getting swept by Leon or Ash winning matches he shouldn't, people try to defend it with whatever excuse they can think of. The reason they don't want to admit that Journeys's writing is bad is because they're lying to themselves and trying to project their lies onto others, they're blinded by nostalgia and just want to see characters from the past regardless of their returns are handle, or they don't care and just want to get rid of Ash as soon as possible.

I’m currently watching Pokemon Horizons and it’s pretty good so far. Hopefully it will get better as it continues moving forward. And I’m really liking Liko and Roy especially the other characters. I just wish fans would give the new series a chance instead of judging it because it doesn’t have Ash! Heck Pokemon Chronicles did that since it focused on the other characters. • @afro025
    @afro025 3 месяца назад +2

You don't even explain why Ash was a problem and he needed to go. For the entirety of the video, you explain how the formula was the problem, how it was redundant and only made Ash's character worse, and don't even address Ash's character being a problem. The Power of Us is one of, if not the *best* written Pokémon movie that does something so refreshing the anime series has never done before, and Ash is STILL the protagonist of that film. That alone proves to you that Ash isn't the problem, but the formula is. There are *so* many stories in the Pokemon world you can tell that don't have to revolve around becoming the strongest, and that Ash can still be apart of.
Also Horizons isn't "something the writers always wanted to do", because absolutely none of the same writers that have been with the anime for years are even writing Horizons. They got a completely new writing staff for the production, except for like two people (Tsuchiya and Akao) who were apart of the Journeys writing team.

I totally agree with you although I do think journeys didn’t do it the best job progressing Ash’s Character it was the way moved to end him he became the Champion of Alola and NOW! the world, strongest Champion and now he passed the torch to the new Protagonist and his Pikachu pass the torch to a naw Pikachu that can be very strong despite being non-fully evolved and honestly, I would say horizons is just better journeys so I’m enjoying the series so far and if you think the new Characters are really good Liko is adorable Roy can be pretty quirky and Friede is the .G.O.A.T. I love this dude he’s basically an older Ash Ketchum and easily the best Horizons Character my least favorite so far is Dot but it will save this. She is Koharu but done right as she does it potentially become a great Character oh, she has to do is ketchup too Liko and Roy as for Captain Pikachu Friede’s Partner Pokemon well he’s certainly no Ash’s Pikachu but when it comes to personality Cap is the winner but horizons is way better than journeys and ending Ash’s Character and passing the torch to a new Protagonist with a different Pikachu since Ash’s Pikachu will always be with him was honestly the right move and the only good decision that’s all we need to say

Ash Ketchum has always been an inspiration to many Pokémon fans worldwide and some people actually do want him to leave the anime and make room for new protagonists for the upcoming series in the future. When Ash had his first ever league victory in the Sun and Moon trilogy, I thought he would be leaving the anime until Pokémon Journeys got announced where he becomes the new world champion which is really the end of the road for our 10-year-old hero who has been climbing the ladder for over 25 years. Yeah It's time to move on. While I do miss Ash, I think he's better off gone. I don't hate Ash, but because of how Journeys couldn't find a natural way of progressing, he had to leave. A majority of Ash's JN battles felt very artificial to the point where he had to win no matter what. It didn't matter how strong or smart his opponents, he had to beat them because if he lost any major fights in JN at all people would've gotten mad. But now that he's gone, people complaining for them to bring him back?! Absolutely not! Ash is gone, his journeys is finished, and if you can't accept that then watch something else and leave people to DO want to watch Horizons ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will allow myself to supplement this video with these thoughts.
Ash's replacement with Liko was warmly received because his departure as the main character was too long awaited. This was expected back in Sinnoh and Kalos, when Ash’s tone and morally mature writing corresponded to this. Which we know didn't happen. The Pokemon Company was dependent on Ash for too long, which soon caused a split in the fandom when, after XYZ, they changed his behavior, tone, formula and mood of the series too radically. Such changes can attract a new audience, but if this is a direct continuation with old characters, and not a reboot with completely new ones, a split in the old audience is inevitable. If, right after XYZ, Ash had been let go from his post as the main character, and a replacement had been immediately given to replace him, seasons 20-25 would have been treated much more warmly, as is now happening with Horizons.

On top of Pokemon Horizons basically fixing Everything wrong with Journeys, Horizons is doing something new and refreshing, and with how Everything comes into play with little to no filler, HZ is the best of my two favorite seasons. The animation of XY, and Writing of SM

The drastic shift in tone from XY to SuMo kind of hints to me that they desperately wanted to try knew things, but still didn't have the guts to replace Ash yet. Personally, I think bringing in a new protagonist (or 2), starting at Gen 7 would have made that era of the show much more enjoyable. I am happy he is gone. HUGE WALL OF TEXT INCOMING:
I honestly agree with what was said here -- even if I haven't been actively watching the new anime, Horizons -- I think that Ash leaving was ultimately a necessary evil for the series to continue forward. While I was happy to see Ash finally reach his goal by becoming the World Champion, which always felt like what they were building up to with the journey he was on, I also think he had overstayed his welcome by this point -- I felt this was after gen6 and his loss to Alain, personally. Unlike most people, I didn't expect Ash to win that battle, so I wasn't disappointed when he inevitability did; it was much more so the outrage people had over the loss he took that got under my skin, as well as the fact that people are still salty and upset over it too this day, with the fact that he never got to rematch Alain for a chance at redemption, seeing Ash-Greninja again, or even getting his "revenge" for his previous defeat being as much about rubbing salt in that old, open wound as it was Alain getting completely destroyed by Leon. That's kind of the whole problem with Ash, in my opinion: people are too attached to him, which I think is the reason why they didn't want to see him leave, and in the same vien, see him return one day in some way, shape or form, and it's this same mindset that has caused people to be more dismissive of Liko and Roy than they probably should be, and I'd even go so far as to say there might not be as much backlash against this decision if Ash had been retired from the anime sooner. It's a big problem -- everywhere you look online, when discussions about the new series are being held, there always seems to be those who want Ash to come back, to the point where if there is an option to vote for Ash to return, that will be what people are going to gravitate to, which I think is too bad, because I think the series can benefit from having a chance to do something different for a change without needing to delve into spin-off territory to make it a reality. That said, I also very much so believe that having Ash's journey end where it has is better than finding some excuse to keep him around, and why unlike a number of fans who wanted him to catch the Latias that appeared in the last 11 episodes, or have one of his Pokemon evolve, I actually did NOT want to see either of those things happen: in my mind, Ash becoming World Champion was a PLENTY high enough note to end his story on without needing something like that to one-up that. It's not just that Ash had no where else to really take his story at that point, but part of why I also felt that way is because Pokemon are characters in their own respects -- as such, to have a Pokemon suddenly evolve, or to have him catch a new Pokemon, right at the end of the time that we're going to be spending with him -- so to have either of those things happen would feel less impactful than it probably should be; it's for a similar reason why I roll my eyes when I hear people talk about how "exciting" or "awesome" it was for Ash's Torracat to evolve after beating Kukui's Incineroar, since I knew that we wouldn't get to see it do much after evolving, and as such, it could very easily have been written to NOT evolve at that point and nothing would really change. It's more or less the same thing with having one of Ash's Pokemon evolve or having him catch the Latias in those final 11 episodes: would it be cool to see something like that happen? Yes, definitely -- but we as fans would be left wanting to see more after the fact, only to be more than likely disappointed because we would most likely at this point not getting to spend more time with Ash, and I think that people still aren't quite processing yet that it's time to say goodbye to him after all this time. The problem is that, because Ash had been the face of the anime for a good 25 or so years at this point, people have gotten so used to seeing him continue his adventures that it feels almost unreal to believe that he's now gone, and this, in turn, is why people have had such a tough time letting go of him and are holding onto hope that one day he will eventually return. That being said, in truth, I do think that he likely will one day make a return in some way or another, if only because the writers realize that he was such a popular character, but for the time being, I agree that him leaving is going to do more good than anything. After all this time, Pokemon needs a chance to be able to tell a different story, as opposed to retreading old ground, and I think that what they did with Sun and Moon, and then later on, Journeys, was their way of easing us into getting a new story for a change: by breaking the old formula of seeing Ash collect gym badges, enter the Pokemon League, only to ultimately lose -- I think that the writers realized they needed to make a change to keep things interesting. Because of this, I hope that people will eventually learn to appreciate Horizons and not be against it just because it doesn't have Ash around anymore

I myself like ash as I’ve known ash since 2000 when I was 3 for 24 years now. I’m 27 years old, I just turned 27 this year this month on the 12 of April since I was born in April 12 1997. I’ve flowed ash through Kanto, orange islands, johto, hoenn, sinnoh, unova, kalos, and parts of alola and galar. I still remember bye bye butterfree episode when I was 3. I know a lot of ash’s wins and losses. His gym battles, his rivals, and everything else. And the Pokémon ash has had or left. That’s including the friends that travel with him. I have also watched almost all of the Pokémon movies. There are only a few Pokémon movies that I haven’t watched which I can probably count on one hand. I have been with ash literally through my childhood, pre teens, teens, and adulthood. In 2017 in March I took a break from the Pokémon anime due other factors like college and whatnot before my 20th birthday in April of 2017. I believe I stopped at the episode where ash beats Halu the fighting type kahuna in I think episode 10, 11, or 12. I do know he beat the league in alola and I know he beat Leon. I have to go back to watching the sun and moon anime and the galar anime. Ash losing the league never really bothered me even in kalos and sinnoh and all the other leagues besides alola and galar. Since I’ve won five trophies over my childhood which is two soccer trophies, football trophy, baseball trophy and basketball trophy. So I know very well about winning and losing. I watched anime since I was 3 in 2000 and then I’ve played the mainline games since I was 10 in 2007 with gen 4 diamond and pearl because I didn’t know the mainline games existed. I could have played the them earlier since I’ve played video games since I was four in 2001 with my game boy advance sp and my original game boy. I’ve almost watched all of the spin off pokemon anime as well. I’ve played the spin off pokemon games since 2008 or 2007 with Pokémon ranger and pokemon mystery dungeon being some of my first pokemon spin off games. I’ve also collected the cards as well throughout parts of my life. The only thing I haven’t done is read the pokemon manga. I only know bits and pieces of all the manga. But that’s about it. I can’t talk about ash or pokemon without given my back story of pokemon. I do love pokemon horizons. I also like dot, Roy, liko, and every character in horizons. When it was announced that ash was leaving the anime, I had very mixed feelings and was shocked since this man and character has been in my life for over two decades. I have so many good memories, good moments, and bad memories, and bad moments throughout the Pokémon anime. Well, when one door closes, another opens. And as the saying goes in the Pokémon anime let the journey continue.

I agreed with a lot of points you brought up. While I do like the BW anime, the series felt "ehh" from time to time because of them resetting Ash and then him maturing in XY right away was a bit too fast of a progression. SM Ash felt like he was true self and honestly imo, they should have ended his journey right there instead of him continuing onto Journeys. While I haven't watched Horizons yet, I appreciate them taking a different direction with the anime and making something completely new and fresh.

Back in the day when digimon fans and pokemon fans were competing against each other.
One of the most DEFINING differences between the two was ash was ALWAYS there.
You think that would be a good idea, But it is not.
The Pokemon tv series was more a fanfiction if you think about it.
A oc (ash) travels to other regions replacing the male player character of that region to do his own version of events.
That sounds like a good idea on paper, but it isn't actually a good idea.
Because thanks to the core idea of ash being ten.
Time in the pokemon world moves on and yet doesn't at the same time.
In fact they had to make ash more mature and look older in pokemon xy because the player characters (serena and kalem) are much older than ten.
The timeline in pokemon is screwed up because somehow time is passing and not passing at the same time.
If the pokemon company wanted time to ACTUALLY pass in the pokemon world.
They would HAVE to get rid of ash.

While I respect your point of view, i disagree with the fact that you think Ash can't return to the anime. Most people think his character arc is done, but i think he only finished his pre teen arc. Imagine another older version of Ash trying to adapt in the world. As a 10 years old, he doesn't need to worry much, but he will sure have a tone of responsibility as he grows older, especially as Alola's champion and the PWC monarch. He doesn't need to be one of the MCs. He can be a recurring character who supports the new MCs, which allow us fans to keep in touch with Ash's growth without him being the lead. Basically, it's a win for both old and new fans.

If ash returned now with more than a cameo role, people would want to see more of him instead of giving their fair shot to the new protagonists. Maybe in a few years once enough people are on board with the new story ash could return with a prominent role, but for now it's the worst strategy they could have

Realistically speaking Ash leaving was a horrible idea because it took away half of the fanbase and I doubt most of them will ever give HZ or any future series a chance. But I am not blaming whoever decided to take him away. I am blaming JN for being the way it was and for basically screaming dead end. If after SM they did a Sword and Shield anime it could have worked (just check out what Zac did in his series) and then a SV anime could have followed. Ash’s fate was sealed the moment they decided to make JN the way they did. At that point they had no choice because Ash couldn’t do anything else but if JN wasn’t JN the thought of Ash leaving being a good thing wouldn’t even be crossing our minds now.

    • @docomega7862
      @docomega7862 5 месяцев назад

Yes it would. I started wanting to see ash go when I watched pokemon origins, and even more with stuff like pokemon generations. Ash has been the same protagonist for 20 years, 20 years of being an 11 years old wanting to become the champion. At some point it just becomes boring. He goes to a region, struggles until he can rival the strongest, then he fails and goes to the next region where he starts right back from square one. Why does he become so weak each new region? Why is he still an 11 years old despite years having passed in the anime? Why does he rarely reuse his old pokemon that should be strong instead of switching to weak new mons?
Ash FINALLY reached his goal in the SM anime, and journeys was a last round of triumph. But his story was over and should've been over for a long time. If ash stayed then if would've been the same boring recipe over and over again but with even less purpose since he's already the champion.
As for the fanbase that left, pokemon is mainly for kids, new kids will hop on and replace the now adults that left and to them the new protagonists will be what ash was to us

Your opinion has been proven inaccurate by how bad the anime has become because they got rid of Ash. As for the explanation, wow... I mean Ash becoming champion wasn't his goal. No opinion is invalid. If you don’t like horizons that’s fine, but just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean you should go into comment sections belittling other people about it. As for Ash I know his goal is to be a pokemon master, but his stories have always revolved around battling, so there’s not a lot of leg room for what you can do post PWC.

Alright I'm 10 minutes in and I have to say what I think along with reactions to the video.
So I agree that Ash leaving was good because like he got so strong.
This is the issue that many anime have power cliffing now Pokemon can get around this a bit better similar to Jojo's by restting Ash lots of the time it's much more fun to have new Pokemon.
However it can't do what Jojo's can do and Jojo's doesn't even always fully reset or keep old characters out they come back at certain points but the way the series is written never allows for their power if they still have the same peak powers to be so relevant it breaks the series.
If Ash grew from generation to generation even if his team (Excluding Pikachu) is new he should still be becoming a better trainer so even lower levels especially with Ash's potential and luck should start to get stronger at some point they would plateu and him losing would become worse.
Now bro became world champion if he went to another region repeated some of the things and suffered losses that would make the scaling memes where it's like "Oh my gosh this character is world champion level." And then anyone who scales to that character or above is suddenly a world champion as well until like the youngest trainers are. Don't get me wrong some of those pre-schoolers in game have high level mons and I don't doubt such powerful trainers can exist but that's if it's like a one-off but that's sort of the issue even if one person unless they are super strong faces Ash and doesn't lose in ways that aren't based on being offguard or just not in the right state of mind or condition then anyone who ever scales to them after or beats them in a battle would just be seen as champion level.
I do think they could have been cool as a mentor to someone in Paldea if they continued he could have got a Lokix and if they wrote it well he could have still worked as a protag or secondary protag it just would be less battle or less battle-loss focused unless they brought some real powerful characters back maybe like Giovanni or some in which Ash could still face losses and have some arcs while mentoring their student to efffectively beat the league and once they do kinda having a match with them after that point.
However series change main characters for a reason and sometimes when they don't it feels like it's a long break or maybe they just use alternate universes which we don't really see.
Honestly another way of going about a series would be similar to Journey's but more-so discovering secrets behind Pokemon and going through dangerous journey's something like that would make a story.
That or like Alternate universes there are some methods but the question is "Would the community accept it that way?"
Pokemon I hope is in a changing time in which things the anime and the games can actually change and no longer be that thing where "If you've seen/played one you've seen/played them all."
Outside of the Side games and Side Anime's like Origins I think.
    -
Now from within the Video I think that the series after 4 did have purpose and their own unique additions and concepts and I think some of them are overhated or misunderstood because of memes and such.
If I were writing things I think I would end it at 7 but I would have had Ash win the Gen 6 League.
Then he wouldn't win the Gen 7 League being in Gen 7 would just be for more fun and unique arcs with the League most likely leading to the winner being someone Ash wants to face and then he would win the first battle they would win the runback and they would do that thing at the end where they keep battling maybe with the League Winner having caught many Pokemon they gained a trustful bond with and Ash swapping out his Pokemon from the past and it's one of those things where we don't see the results of the subsequent battles just knowing they happened.
I liked Gen 5 and Gen 6 also did really good.
I also like Journey's but even if Ash did appear in that I think maybe if they changed how the story worked on that a bit with them maybe being a bit less of a protag or sort of switching up how Protag episodes work maybe it would be better.
However once you get to world champ Ash it's kinda hard to know what to do with them and I certainly did want more characters like we got now as Protaganists to finally be able to separate from Ash after so long.
I think it would be cool if we saw them in Movies and Cameo's. I don't think they have to change much but I feel like what Pokemon could do is alternate universes and more that way Ash or the Ash as we know them never has to change and can keep appearing in movies and said Cameo's but Ash's from other universes and some other characters we can see their likely futures and some futures which are unexpected or alternate.
However almost nothing uses this well of possibility despite it being way more possible in Pokemon.
I wouldn't agree with Naruto-Boruto as the analogy I would say Dragonball/Z-Super fits better.
Specifically because Super is the most divisive. Boruto I think is overhated but why I think Super fits here is because well what happens to Goku's character at least in the anime and it's probably worse in the dub along with the Anime and Manga being so different sometimes it is kinda like they didn't know what to do and then after the series ended weirdly after the TOP we only got movies before it got sidelined possibly for Daima with like nothing to do after.
It's like EOZ is quite the end in that case you can compare an EOZ to like Gen 1 (Movie) or Gen 2 or Gen 4 or Gen 6 (Equal Gens for 3 of them) and then the Super in this case would just be like parts of 7 and parts of 8.
    Next Time...
The thing is even after all of this they can always bring Ash back if such a formula just works to print Cash out for them for the kids and giving each generation their own Pokemon generation to grow up with.
I think it would be interesting if we had a Main anime and Ash maybe appeared in more Side-anime once again it doesn't even always have to be the Ash we know as this timeline is quite unique but with that concept we could have so many Main characters through different regions and maybe one day we could unite like the Mains and the Side for like a big tournament or something.
But what's hopeful in this franchise is evolution...

Secondly, while I will miss him, his time has come and gone. It’s time to move to a new protagonist.
Third, I’m certainly happy that Ash and Liko aren’t related. Allows the character to be her own and not just be supported because she’s the daughter of Ash.

Nah, the anime never got stagnant and repetitive, it only further evolved and grew and got drastically better. That being said, Ash had to go because his character arc building from the start of the franchise was completed at the end of Journeys, so it's natural. All stories should end at some point. And this was the natural, perfect point. It did NOT happen because he became the champ though, that's not his end goal and it's only that it coincided with his character arc conclusion. He certainly could not have retired any earlier since his character was not complete before then, especially not DP, where he is still fairly immature.
Also, BW was NOT a reboot. And it had Ash's biggest character development. Also, Ash was not mature in xy, but rather extremely immature and out of character. And Journeys was awesome, it was a perfect continuation of Ash's journey and character and arc and his development and conflicts in Journeys were top notch.

As a writer too, I have to disagree. I personally don't have any specific attachment to Ash. In fact, I utterly despised him in Journeys. Journeys Ash is a moron. The real Ash is not like that.
But as a writer, making Ash leave when he's at his lowest point writing-wise sucks. I love Riko, Roy and Dot, but the day Ash left should have been one where he was at his best, not at his worst.
I think that they should have kept him for one more season. Make Gen 9 his final season. Write him properly like they did in Gen 6 and give a real final conclusion to him and Team Rocket (let's not forget them).
And let's be honest, him not meeting Nemona is quite the missed opportunity. They could have been the best rivals.
In fact, maybe he could be considered to be a Champion Rank trainer just like her, but decides, just like her, to start over with a completely fresh team.
Maybe Pikachu would obviously still be here travelling with Ash, but Ash wouldn't send him to fight at all, as he would focus on his new Pokémon and because he knows Pikachu would defeat absolutely everyone easily until he reaches the League.
And where this would get interesting is that this would make Pikachu upset and create a conflict between the two. And not a conflict that would be resolved in a single episode like they did in the past.
This would be an actual conflict that would take time to resolve. Pikachu would be upset towards Ash, and Ash's stubborn attitude would lead him to be upset at Pikachu in return, creating a rift between the two.
As for Team Rocket, they need closure. We know by now that they aren't as bad as they pretend to be. And they can be quite likeable and nice. Maybe they would finally leave Team Rocket ?
Maybe the rift between Ash and Pikachu would cause him to run away and end up right into Team Rocket's hands. But maybe they're in a situation where they can't send him to Giovanni, and even though it's rough at first, they bond with Pikachu during that time.
Maybe that, during the climax of the series, with Giovanni as the final antagonist after even the Professor's AI, Jessie, James and Meowth would finally realize how despicable Giovanni truly is and stand up to him alongside Ash.
They already helped Ash and stood by his side fighting against other members of Team Rocket on some occasions. But there was always a disguise or an excuse that came with it. Here, no disguises and no excuse.
As this would be Ash and Team Rocket's final season. They would have to go all out on their characters and finally give them closure. And having Ash and Team Rocket on the same side in this impactful moment would be a great way to do it.
Instead, Ash and Team Rocket's final season was awful, and they didn't really get any closure at all. The series ends on them doing the same thing they've always been doing.
