Man, RCI should hire you. Great company, people and products with absolutely awful instructions. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this.
Great video Austin, saved me a ton of time trying to figure this out. I changed the Allen key screws to Phillips stainless steel from the big box store.
So HELPFUL!! I’m getting my RCI skid plate in the mail tomorrow for my tundra and was nervous about how the install was gonna go. After seeing your video I think I can do it 💪🏻
Great video! Yes, you should work for RCI and improve their instructions and communications. On my 2021 Tundra, the two front bolts that hold the engine skid to the frame were not the same as what RCI sent, so I just used the OEM bolts and it worked fine. Thank you for the useful video.
Do a video on changing the oil with the new skid plate! I’m curious if there’s enough room to cleanly remove the oil filter! Thanks again for the video, and kudos to your wife for helping!
you're my hero, thanks for making this vid. I just got mine in last night and the instructions are NOT very helpful. I feel a lot more confident after watching this
Glad I wasn't the only one getting crushed while installing. Good video. Somehow this popped up after I installed my skid plate, it would have been useful to watch prior to installing. Haha.
@@kccreations5945 Just got it done yesterday , was very easy because he had the truck on the lift and few friends to hold the skid . I did use all 5 spacers for the 2 front and 3 middle bolts , because I have a leveling kit with a diff drop installed .
This kid plate has an oil filter and drain hole so you only have to undo two bolts to do the oil change as opposed to the factory skid plate that you have to completely remove!
I'm going to get the full skid plate kit. Engine, transmission skid and fuel tank skid. After doing lots of research RCI recommends getting the Fumoto valve to replace the oil pan drain plug. Did you get one? It's suppose to make it easier to drain oil with that skid plate on. RCI guy said he highly recommends it.
@@kccreations5945 cool, I got the Fumoto f133n oil drain valve with 3' hose kit. I also got the Jowett Performance billet oil cap for filter that has the ez oil drain valve. Waiting for next oil change to install before I put on all 3 RCI skids.
Make sure to drink your protein before installing, this is a heavy unit! lol Well really it's just kind of awkward by yourself! Thanks for watching man!
That’s the big question! Just depends on your budget I think! And if you want black you have to get the aluminum one powder coated so there is an extra cost too...
Hey Scott! I had installed the differential drop when I did the 3”/1” leveling kit. It was recommended that at 3” or greater to install the differential drop so I did. In all reality 3” is kind of the line of it’s okay to do it or not but I had it so I did lol
nice video as always. Hey does this protect the Catalytic Converters from being stolen. I hear that the theft of Cat's is very common on Tundra's now. Any suggestions are appreciated. Looking to do a full skid plate with Catalytic Converter protection against theft. thanks
Too bad these Jack wagons at RCI sent me a damaged skid plate with half the bolts missing. Clearly wasn't damaged from shipping alone since the small bag that was supposed to hold the bolts was ripped open and everything loose
I don't know for certain but this steel one is a beast. Really heavy! But I appreciate that being that it would be protecting some very vital components!

Thank you so much! I so appreciate that!
RCI is local to me here in CO. Just put this plate on my 20 ranger. The plate is super thick and tough. Looks good, performs good. Love it.
Great video Austin, saved me a ton of time trying to figure this out. I changed the Allen key screws to Phillips stainless steel from the big box store.
Nice that’s a good idea! Glad it helped you out!
Thanks for taking the time to make this. It made the install so much easier. RCI’s instructions are garbage
I’m so glad it helped! Thanks for the feedback!

Great video Austin. I just installed the same RCI skid plate today 6/6/2022. Very helpful. Saved a lot of time watching your install 👍🏼
They really made these to be a pain in the butt to install. My 02 4Runner is so simple compared to my 16 Tundra.
Oh no doubt!
Hey, Austin. Thank you again for this video! It helped me immensely in installing my new RCI skid plate.
No problem’n

I have a few oil changes left from the factory but after that I definitely will! Thanks for watching man!!

Hahaha It was so heavy! lol You are more than welcome to take it off and do it over! lol Thanks for watching man!
@@kccreations5945 nope. It's staying where it is until the truck is dead. Haha.
Just received my 1/4" aluminum plate from a black Friday deal , Thanks for the install Video.
Very cool man! I’m jealous of you getting to install that. The steel was pretty darn heavy and hard to lift alone!

that is a nice skid plate! i cant help but to keep thinking about oil change time and what it will take to undo everything for that purpose.

Thanks for the detailed install!
Absolutely! Glad to do it!
Great job! Thank you for the video.
Thanks for a great video on how to install, great job!
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve been debating rci or Ironman skids any pros or cons, Ironman very very strong with material and hardware

@@kccreations5945 Of course. I enjoy the videos
@@joshuarichey9870 appreciate that! I’ll be installing my new TRD exhaust tomorrow or the next day so that video should be up soon!
@@kccreations5945 Oh nice. I look forward to seeing it.
Can you put a link where you buy the place..
Any noise or anything after install I know the TRD one has a creaking noise after install
Nice video, I'm eyeing that skid plate as well but not sure if I should get the one you got or the raw aluminum.
That’s the big question! Just depends on your budget I think! And if you want black you have to get the aluminum one powder coated so there is an extra cost too...
Just curious as why you installed a 1 inch differential drop assuming this was for CV angle (PV) enjoyed the video Thanks

Great job explaining and great tips. Best video I saw on installing it by yourself. Thanks.

How is it while performing an oil change with the plate ?
> want to get this for my Tundra too for easy oil filter opening. Great video thanks
Yeah It's much easier that way! The stock skid plate is a pain to remove!
@@kccreations5945 the spacers are only if you have a differential drop right? If it's stock don't need spacers? I'm ordering mines soon.

I don’t believe so:/ but they make a longer additional one that give mores coverage!
@@kccreations5945 thanks man. Appreciate your response. And overall your videos are awesome. Thx
How long did it take to receive the skid plate once you placed your order?
Oh goodness, I am not sure I'm sorry... It's been so long I don't know when it arrived.
HOW DO YOU DRAIN THE OIL/REMOVE THE OIL PAN BOLT? I SEE THERE IS A DOOR FOR THE FILTER.
If you go to 15:03 in the video you can see the oil pan bolt is accessible because the skid plate is curved around it.
This is a good tutorial thank u for it I plan on getting this plate n the tranny plate also
Does it interfere with jacking up the front by the crossmember?
Hmm, I’m not really sure to be honest…. I’ll have to check!
Thanks! Appreciate it. I’m getting the aluminum one so I worry it will bend if I jack under it.

this would be a great plate if it offered some cat theft protection. I think Ill build my own.
