Hello Sir,I think I mistakenly bought the smaller Yozuri Bonito,I realise it doesn't really go deep when trolling, can I use a sinker with it to get it down there? Thanks
You absolutely can i would recommend a cigar style trolling weight with a 50' mono leader between the sinker & bonita. This means you'll need to hand line the keader but it will get it down for ya. Another option would be planer setup. Go get em boss👊🙌🙌
@Betterthanbought. Thanks very much I didn't realise you use a planer with these as an option, I have a 4 and going to purchase a 6 as we speak. Thanks again.
Great instructions. I never learned how to troll this lure. Years ago I tried trolling the Bonita lure set back on its own and the lure would ride out to one side and pop out of the surface. Do these lures have to be tuned? Do they have to be used with planers to keep them down? Can they be set back on the surface and track/dive on its own? Very informative and detailed. Thank you. Keep the videos coming.
Hey thanks for stopping by the channel. I use Owner hyper wire rings & swear by them💯 #11 on the 8" large bonitas and #8 on the smaller 6" ones. Those seem to match up pretty good. Try n keep your loop small also so it has less drag & wont effect the lure negatively. Those Bonitas can be finicky keeping everything tight helps alot. Happy fishing my friend👊 stay safe out there.
Great video! If my shock leader has a snap swivel end that connects to the cable, is there some benefit to the barrel swivel or can I just eliminate it (ie so not to connect snap swivel to barrel swivel). Also, do you troll the 8-1-4” yozuri straight up or behind a cigar/downrigger/planer to get it deeper in the water column? Thx!
You can eliminate it if you want too forsure. I prefer to tie directly to a barrel swivel its more streamline so causes less turbulence & dont effect the lure nearly as much imo. If you like the ease of using snaps say you change baits alot & have arthritic hands or something by all means do what fits/works best for you. And i sometimes will use a cigar weight on those Bonitas absolutely. Basically if its slick to a moderate chop ill just run them as is but say its 2 footers + i will use a 32oz cigar weight if trolling around 8knotts and a 48oz if i want to cover ground quickly a 48 can run about 15 knotts behind most boats. Just watch the rod tip make sure its not bouncing too much indicating a spinning/circling lure. Those can get unstable and can act weird in some conditions so just watch the rod tip & your line where it meets the water. You dont want any bouncing of the tip or any big side to side movements from the line. A steady vibration on the rod tip tells you its running good & you will pick right up on it & know when something isn't right once you tow them a bit. Hope that helps you out👊 Also try a 220 Nomad dtx minnow those work great by themselves no weight or planer needed & they run great always. Highly recommended👍👍 Thanks for checking out the channel stay safe & tight lines my friend👊🙏
@chris Arch Ya if you store them wet like that they deffinatly will rust. Thats more for traveling purposes or long term storage. We fly 2000 miles with our gear in the belly of jet so if there not wrapped up they get scrathed up bad. A cloth would work too but they always pull out bags if there wrapped in cloth or rags so i started doing this & haven't any issues since.
Absolutely do go ck out my Instagram been in the keys for past 2 weeks been cleaning up. We only fish 2 wks a yr down south & those baits are brand new im not sure where you got used from. My Instagram is Thewoodworker1. 16 tuna 2 wahoo 9 mahi 3 cudas bonitas bunch of reef n trash fish. 1 week offshore. We do a family trip with our kids so don't exspect alot. The kids can only take so much before its not fun anymore & its their vacation too. More about memmories than anything. But go have a look just let me know your ig handle & ill approve you👊
What # or pound strength "Owner" split rings for the large 8 1/4 yozuri lure? and do u use the same size split ring for the smaller yozuri 6 3/4" lure?
I use #11 on the 8" & #8 on the 6" roughly half your cable strength basically. Anything bigger effects the lure negatively. You can even drop it down a size or 2 if your conscious about your drag. Keep crimps small & tight no big loops think streamline 👍👍
@@Betterthanbought. thanks and keep up the great work/videos! Great information & better than bought! My Grandfather could always make things better than bought! Taught me much!
Not sure about Kevlar never heard of it being used for leader material. If its thin i dont see why not though. Anything thick will cause the line to scope out keeping your lure from diving to its max depth. The 280lb cable does real good job. Keep your rigging small & sleek it matters alot far as depth goes.
I always use the bright stuff myself. Wahoo are not a tackle shy species at all so either is just fine. Just make sure you use a good quality split ring like owner hyper wire ones i show here & you'll be all set.👍 That cable will wear through cheep rings & the eye of the lure fairly quick. So the quality splitring is very important for longevity of the lure. Thanks for the support & tight lines👊
i have mine rigged with the swivel connected to the split ring to 300lb fluoro leader. does that work too? I’m assuming so as we have caught a couple nice sized wahoo on them. thanks!
Oh ya theres just more chance of bite offs without cable. But if your targeting wahoo specifically cable is highly recommended. They can even bite through cable sometimes esp the big ones. There just not a tackle shy fish at all so no worries there like some other species 👍 Congrats on the big ones💪💪 Wahoo are by far my fav fish to catch. Tight lines👊
Yah i agree i just do that for travel purposes because we fly over 2200 miles with all this equipment in the belly of a plane & in yrs past i have had brand new lures get chaffed up really bad🤦♂️. Once we get to our rental i unwrap them all so its not even brought out on the boat & ending up blowing out in the ocean.
Hey Thanks man. The purpose is to keep the cable from sawing through the eyelet of the lure. Adding the split ring stops that from happening as the cable will now eat at the split ring & we can just change those out as needed. So it just ensures longevity of your lures. If your rigging with mono its not necessary but with the ss cable deffinatly use a split ring so it takes the abuse & dont screw up your lure👍
@@seanblanch9536 Yes. Because we have a replaceable high quality split ring. Having chaff gear will add unwanted resistance and the lure wont track as good or dive as deep as without it simply due to thst added restriction/drag in the water. Hope that helps👍
Awesome Video, followed your rigging advice and got a nice Wahoo on first trip. Thanks
Good deal congrats on the hoo🙌🙌 by far my fav fish to catch💪
Sandwich bag ziplock bag for the cable then put lure & cable ina bigger zip lock
Great info

Have you ever considered using thimballs on the split ring or barrel swivel crimps?

I would think that either plastic wrap or a ziploc bag would make it more susceptible to rusting?

Any pics of those after a few days trolling, some wahoo, tuna and makos?

Awesome video sir I really like but can you please tell me that what is the size of this two hooks are they 7/0 thanks
Those are a heavy duty 9/0 for the big 8" lures. And i believe the 6" version has 7/0 on them. Just what comes on them standard.
Thanks for your reply

What kind of lure keeper role 🤔 was that?
Offshore angler 7 pocket Rig locker. Amazon 👍 plano makes a good one also. Seach ebay & Amazon for best deals.

What about using kevlar instead of cable??

I run the 280lb cable on those small ones.
I haven't figured out how to keep the wahoo teeth from scratching the lure....lol.
😅😅 great problem to have my man🙌🙌.
Hope you have been slaying them dude.
Do you use camo or bright cable? Or does it not seem to matter?

I'm not a pro but it looks like your crimping wrong crimp should be tall way up and down
Not exzactly sure what your saying/meaning about way up n down. Whats shown is the correct way👍👍
