    Your video was a lifesaver. I overheated on the side of the road and had a friend bring me the thermostat and a few tools. It was a little unnerving with vehicles doing 60 miles an hour plus past me but I got it done! Thanks to your guidance. God-bless

    Another problem on these 3.7 jeeps is the water pump pully is molded on to the impeller shaft.
    I had one fail but it took the mechanic 6 hours to figure out that the pully was turning but the impeller wasnt.
    Almost toasted the engine, but caught it in time.
    Once you get these engines overheated they dropp valve seats and then your engine is toast.

      Mine ended up being a rebuilt PCM computer for the car(controls engine and transmission). Had racing hydraulic fan(5.7l engine), engine shut off after 5 seconds, transmission went into "limp mode"(3rd gear maximum). They get solder connection corrosion inside, over time.

  • @northstar386
    @northstar386 2 года назад +1

    This problem is many Grand Cherokee 2006_2010. Overheating in the automatic transmission causes the same problem as the transmission. The PCM gives a false reading when starting the car, everything is fine, but when the engine is turned off and the car is started, the transmission selects 3 instead of D. But everything is fine in the car. The solution to this problem is to change the PCM with a good one.

    how do you get a frozen rusted bolt off to remove the thermostat housing? I have tried everything but bolt wont come off. It looks smaller than a 8MM by the way. The 8MM is just spinning around, probably worn down the bolt trying to take it off.

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  5 лет назад

      Yeah that sucks Forty Saginaw. I'm guessing you've let it soak in WD 40 for a day or so? Can you get a Vise Grip on it? Also you may need to put a flame to the head of the bolt. You have to bleed the coolant system that’s why it was overheating
    The thermostat was getting stuck due to an air bubble in the system and you fixed the problem by putting a failsafe thermostat that stays open when it overheats
    You bleed by opening the bolt stuck on the top radiator hose and waiting till coolant comes out then closing it it takes like 2 minutes to fix the problem

      @@OurSimpleAdventures So I change the thermostat but then it started leaking from a pulley next to it. The middle bottom pulley, I fear its the transmission pulley. There is coolant still in the system, it seems to drain to a certain level then stop. It still has plenty in the reservoir. Do you have any advice for this?

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  4 года назад +1

      @@donovanclay1917 The transmission doesn't have a pulley. It's probably the Water Pump. You should do a coolant system pressure test if you don't know exactly where the leak is or if there are multiple leaks. Here is my video on that: ruclips.net/video/9JK3Nn8DRGI/видео.html

      Having the same trans overheat. Could be thermostat. Make sure tranny fluid full. Ive read the code cause could be loose or dirty connections on starter too. Could be bad sensors. We are starting w starter clips 1st. Easiest. Tranny fluid good. Thermostat will be next. Sensors then. After that, I'm lost. Guess dealership next.

      @@mlyeager1 thats what mine was. The clip on the bottom of the starter. Sanded the clip, cleaned off the wire and put on electrical connection lube. Done. Hasn't done it for about 5 years now on two jeeps, same problem. Good luck.

      Ours was resolved with the thermostat. Completed last week. Did a coolant flush, upper/lower hose, new radiator cap and thermostat. So far, no idiot light.
      I had a hell of time finding torque specs for thermostat housing. One guy told us 32 ft lbs! Glad I didnt take his advice. Lol.

    May I know the relation of transmission with thermostat?

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  4 года назад

      Hi chanrio1308, it was causing the engine to overheat which tripped the transmission overheat sensor apparently. Thanks for the question. Give us a follow and Subscribe as there will be more!

      @chanrio1308 no I haven't resolved it but I been lucky enough where it drive fine now it still drives before when I tried starting it would shake and then off but now it still says temperature over temp all fast but it doesn't give me problems it turns on all the time now like I couldn't drive it far because then it would give me issues turning back on but now I can drive it bro sorry not the answer you wanted but I guess I just live with it now that it turns on like nothing

    Great video, here are my thoughts with my jeep
    I have a 2005 - 5.7 engine with 160k miles, and this is how I fix the problem when it comes up.
    The "Trans Over Temp" usually comes up when I'm driving and mostly during the summer. I replaced the trans fluid and filter about 20K miles ago and that never fixed the issue. Currently the color is pink and it is at the correct level. My fix = pull over stop the jeep, put it in Park and turn it off for 5 seconds. Start the jeep again the problem goes away. SO - the message is not accurate, it is an electrical or computer/software problem.
    The other issue is: The jeep starts for about 2 seconds and it shuts off. ( service 4x4, check gauges, etc etc) My fix = Connect my OBD code reader and delete any codes, check for codes again, if no codes come up, turn the ignition OFF, remove the key, open the driver door and wait 1 to 3 mins. Start the jeep again and that problem goes away and I'm able to drive again. Not a permanent fix, but at least it won't leave me stranded and /or getting a tow truck.
    I use the app Torque Pro ($5) and the wireless OBD adapter that works with Torque($15) You can buy one at Autozone or amazon... just make sure it works on Jeeps.
    Here is the order I would replace parts if I had the money:
    1- New starter ($170) from autozone and it is very easy to replace.
    2- New key ignition/tumbler = dealer needs to do this as they need to reprogram a new set of keys but it is pricey...about ($700)
    3- New computer which is also about ($700)
    My Jeep is too old for me to put money into it. For now, I'll keep clearing the codes when it won't start. And reboot or restart the computer/car when the Trans Temp message comes up.
    Feliz Navidad and happy 2021 everyone.
