I have had issues with the accuracy of this hot spot. Any plumbing pipe up too 8ft down is accurate, but once you go lower, it misses the mark. Sometimes up to 5-6ft away from where the pipe actual is, even after following these instructions.
What can be address to make this thing more accurate at greater depths?

It is more likely that the problem you are experiencing is cause by a weak or damaged transmitter in the camera head, than in the locator. It could also be caused if you are locating through concrete with a lot of rebar in it, or interference from nearby electronics. Please call us at 800-245-6200 so that we can assist you. Thanks

how do i locate utilities and power line with just this locator or do i need to use the gen eye hot spot trrasmitter ?

You can use your Hot Spot locator to locate active power lines. Just switch the mode to the lighting bolt. You will need the transmitter to locate utilities. It energizes the line so you can locate it. Please take a look at our separate video on how to use the Gen-Eye Hot Spot 5 watt transmitter. Does this device locate plastic pipes ?

If you buy the Sonde, you can put it on the end of a snake or fishtape and push it through the plastic pipe, locating as you go.
